The Pittsburgh Penguins hosting the New York Rangers. Alexandar Georgiev and Casey DeSmith are the backups in goal. Pittsburgh opened in the first period with a Kris Letang goal, his fourteenth of the season, courtesy of Sidney Crosby. New York tied it on a Mats Zuccarello power play goal, his tenth of the year, powered by Kevin Hayes and Kevin Shattenkirk. The Penguins took the lead with a Marcus Pettersson power play goal in the second period, his second of the season, with assists provided by Nick Bjugstad and Justin Schultz. Pittsburgh added on with a Brian Dumoulin goal, his second of the year, via Crosby and Pettersson. The Rangers got one back with a Zuccarello goal, his second of the game and eleventh of the season, assisted by Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider. New York tied it on an unassisted Ryan Strome goal, his eighth of the year. The Penguins retook the lead in the third period with a Letang goal, his second of the game and fifteenth of the season, fueled by Crosby, who got a sock trick, and Jake Guentzel. Pittsburgh extended the lead as Evgeni Malkin scored his seventeenth of the year, thanks to Zach Aston-Reese and Phil Kessel. The Penguins padded the lead on another Malkin goal, his second of the game and eighteenth of the season, guided in by Aston-Reese and Kessel. The Rangers got one back with a Hayes goal, his fourteenth of the year, coming off of Tony DeAngelo and Marc Staal. New York pulled closer on a Zibanejad goal, his twenty-sixth of the campaign, with helpers by Kreider and Shattenkirk. The final held at 6-5, with the three stars going to Malkin, Letang, and Zuccarello, while Crosby, Pettersson, Kessel, Aston-Reese, Shattenkirk, Zibanejad, Hayes, and Kreider all get honorable mentions.
Out in Minnesota, the Wild welcome the St. Louis Blues. Jordan Binnington and Alex Stalock are the less-experienced goalies. St. Louis started in the first period with a Vladimir Tarasenko power play goal, his twenty-sixth of the season, powered by Ryan O'Reilly and Robert Thomas. The Blues added on with an O'Reilly power play goal, his twenty-second of the year, with assists provided by Tarasenko and Alex Pietrangelo. St. Louis extended the lead in the second period as Vince Dunn scored his eighth of the season, thanks to Pietrangelo and Brayden Schenn. The Blues padded the lead on a Schenn goal, his eleventh of the year, helped along by Tarasenko. The final stayed at 4-0, with the three stars going to Tarasenko, Binnington (31 save shutout), and O'Reilly, while Pietrangelo and Schenn get the honorable mentions.
Over in Detroit, the Red Wings bring in the Philadelphia Flyers. Carter Hart and Jonathan Bernier are set to start in goal. Philadelphia began in the first period with an Oskar Lindblom goal, his ninth of the season, coming off of Sean Couturier. Detroit tied it in the second period with a Darren Helm goal, his fifth of the year, via Niklas Kronwall and Frans Nielsen. The Flyers retook the lead in the third period with an Ivan Provorov goal, his sixth of the season, passed from Phil Varone and James van Riemsdyk. Philadelphia iced it at 3-1 with a Lindblom empty net goal, his second of the game and tenth of the year, set up by Couturier and Travis Sanheim. The three stars were Hart (37 for 38 in saves), Lindblom, and Couturier.
Further east, the New Jersey Devils host the Buffalo Sabres. Carter Hutton and Cory Schneider are in the creases. New Jersey got going in the second period with a Miles Wood goal, his sixth of the season, made possible by Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac. The Devils added on with a Jesper Bratt power play goal, his sixth of the year, powered by Palmieri and Damon Severson. Buffalo got on the board with a Sam Reinhart goal, his fourteenth of the season, courtesy of Zach Bogosian and Jack Eichel. New Jersey answered in the third period with a Palmieri goal, his twenty-sixth of the year, assisted by Zajac and Andre Greene. The Devils iced it at 4-1 with a shorthanded empty net goal by Joey Anderson, his second of the campaign, set up by Greene. The three stars went to Palmieri, Schneider (34 for 35 in saves), and Zajac, while Greene gets an honorable mention.
South to Florida, as the Panthers welcome the Montreal Canadiens. Antti Niemi and James Reimer are in the blue paint. Florida led off in the first period with an Aleksander Barkov power play goal, his twentieth of the season, powered by Keith Yandle and Mike Hoffman. The Panthers added on with a Denis Malgin goal, his seventh of the year, courtesy of Derick Brassard and Henrik Borgstrom. Montreal got on the board with a Max Domi goal, his eighteenth of the season, assisted by Tomas Tatar. Florida replied with a Frank Vatrano goal, his twentieth of the year, coming off of Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau. The Canadiens pulled back with a Brendan Gallagher goal, his twenty-third of the season, going in unassisted. Montreal tied it in the second period with a Domi goal, his second of the game and nineteenth of the year, passed from Mike Reilly and Tatar. The Panthers regained the lead with Barkov's second of the game and twenty-first of the season, made possible by Yandle. Florida extended the lead in the third period as Barkov completed his hat trick on an unassisted goal, his twenty-second of the year. The Panthers iced it at 6-3 with a Riley Sheahan empty net goal, his eighth of the campaign, set up by Evgenii Dadonov and Hoffman. The three stars were Barkov, Domi, and Yandle, while Hoffman gets an honorable mention.
Finally, the Anaheim Ducks bring in the Washington Capitals. Braden Holtby and Ryan Miller are the experienced goalies. Washington kicked off the scoring in the first period with an Alex Ovechkin goal, his fortieth of the season, guided in by John Carlson and Jakub Vrana. Anaheim tied it in the second period with an Adam Henrique goal, his eleventh of the year, via Brandon Montour and Jaycob Megna. The Ducks took the lead with a Jakob Silfverberg goal, his fourteenth of the season, passed from Henrique and Hampus Lindholm. The Capitals tied it on an unassisted Carlson goal, his ninth of the year. Anaheim retook the lead with a Henrique power play goal in the third period, his second of the game and twelfth of the season, powered by Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf. The Ducks added on with a Perry power play goal, with assists provided by Cam Fowler and Getzlaf. Anaheim iced it at 5-2 with a Silfverberg goal, his second of the game and fifteenth of the year, fueled by Derek Grant and Michael Del Zotto. The three stars were Henrique, Silfverberg, and Perry, while Getzlaf and Carlson get the honorable mentions.
