MLS 2019 - Week 21

A full weekend is ahead, beginning with...

New York City FC hosting Sporting Kansas City. Tim Melia and Sean Johnson are the goalies. New York City led off in the 41st minute with an Anton Tinnerholm goal, via Alexander Ring and Alexandru Mitrita. Roger Espinoza of Kansas City had a yellow card for a 45th minute foul, as did the Pigeons' Maxime Chanot. New York City added on in the 54th minute with a Heber goal, coming off of Ring. Sporting went down to ten men in the 62nd minute on an Espinoza foul that drew a straight red card. Kansas City got on the board in the 73rd minute with an Ilie Sanchez goal, helped along by Benny Feilhaber and Johnny Russell. The Pigeons replied with a Ring goal in the 77th minute, assisted by Gary Mackay-Steven. Sporting had yellow cards for Gerso in the 80th minute and Botond Barath in stoppage time, both for fouls. The final was 3-1, with Ring named man of the match.

Out west, Los Angeles FC welcomes Atlanta United FC. Brad Guzan faces a lesser foe in Pablo Sisniega in goal. Atlanta began in the 2nd minute with a Mohammed Adams goal. Los Angeles tied it with an Adama Diomande goal in the 33rd minute, via Mark-Anthony Kaye. The Black and Gold took the lead in the 38th minute with a Diego Rossi. Los Angeles extended the lead in the 42nd minute as Carlos Vela scored on a penalty kick goal. The Five Stripes' Eric Remedi took a yellow card for a 44th minute foul. The Black and Gold padded the lead on an Eduard Atuesta goal in the 45th minute, helped along by Diomande and Vela. Atlanta pulled one back with a Josef Martinez goal in first half stoppage time, made possible by Julian Gressel. The Five Stripes got closer with an own goal by Los Angeles' Eddie Segura in the 51st minute. Atlanta saw yellow cards for Leandro Gonzalez Pirez's 56th minute foul and an 80th minute foul by Justin Meram. The final held at 4-3, with the man of the match being Diomande.

On Saturday, the New England Revolution bring in Orlando City SC. Brian Rowe and Matt Turner are the keepers. New England opened in the 3rd minute with a Gustavo Bou goal, via Edgar Castillo. Orlando City saw yellow cards for Sebastian Mendez in the 27th minute and Oriol Rosell in the 36th minute, both for fouls. The Revolution added on in the 47th minute with a Cristian Penilla goal, coming off of Brandon Bye. New England extended the lead as Carles Gil scored a penalty kick goal in the 60th minute. Bye of the Revolution took a yellow card for a 67th minute foul. New England padded the lead as Diego Fagundez scored in the 75th minute, thanks to Gil. The Lions got on the board in the 77th minute with a Tesho Akindele goal, helped along by Dom Dwyer and Nani. This only made it 4-1, the final, with the man of the match named as Penilla.

Down in New Jersey, the New York Red Bulls host the Columbus Crew SC. Eloy Room and Luis Robles man the nets. New York started in the 15th minute with a Brian White goal, assisted by Marc Rzatkowski. Columbus tied it in the 16th minute with a Luis Argudo goal, passed from Gyasi Zardes and Alex Crognale. The Crew took the lead in the 46th minute with a Pedro Santos goal, via Argudo and Hector Jimenez. Luis Diaz of Columbus had a yellow card for a 60th minute foul. The Red Bulls tied it in the 63rd minute on a Daniel Royer penalty kick goal. David Guzman of the Crew took a yellow card for a 71st minute foul. Columbus pulled ahead with a Santos goal in the 84th minute. Tim Parker of New York received a yellow card for a foul in stoppage time. The final held at 3-2, with Santos as the man of the match.

West to Chicago, as the Fire welcome DC United. Bill Hamid and Kenneth Kronholm protect the nets. Chicago saw yellow cards for C.J. Sapong in the 54th minute and Johan Kappelhof in the 58th minute, both for fouls. DC's Donovan Pines took a yellow card for a 69th minute foul. The game ended in a 0-0 draw, with Kappelhof selected as man of the match in the defensive affair.

South to Texas, where FC Dallas brings in Real Salt Lake. Nick Rimando and Jesse Gonzalez tend the twines. Reggie Cannon of Dallas had a yellow card for a 35th minute foul. In the 67th minute, Bryan Acosta of the Toros took a yellow card for persistent infringement. Salt Lake's Justen Glad picked up a yellow card for a foul in stoppage time. The final remained as it started, 0-0, with the man of the match being Gonzalez for his five-save clean sheet.

Across the state, the Houston Dynamo host the Seattle Sounders FC. Stefan Frei and Tyler Deric are between the sticks. Seattle saw a yellow card for Jordy Delem's foul in the 50th minute. The Sounders got going in the 59th minute on a Jordan Morris goal. Harry Shipp of Seattle received a yellow card for his 72nd minute foul. Ronaldo Pena of Houston picked up a yellow card for an 82nd minute foul. The final was 1-0, with Morris picked as man of the match.

Up north, Minnesota United FC welcomes the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Maxime Crepeau and Vito Mannone draw the starts in goal. Ethan Finlay of Minnesota had a yellow card for a 35th minute foul. Vancouver's Felipe took a yellow card for his 37th minute foul. In the 57th minute, Hwang In-Beom of the Whitecaps received a yellow card for his foul. The Loons' Darwin Quintero picked up a yellow card in the 67th minute for a foul. The game ended in a 0-0 draw, with Mannone's five-save clean sheet making him man of the match.

In Canada, the Montreal Impact bring in the Philadelphia Union. Andre Blake and Evan Bush are the strong keepers. Montreal struck first in the 4th minute with a Lassi Lappalainen goal, via Zachary Brault-Guillard. Zakaria Diallo of the Impact had a yellow card for a 9th minute foul. Montreal added on in the 36th minute with an Orji Okwonkwo goal, courtesy of Ignacio Piatti. Maximiliano Urruti of the Impact took a yellow card for his 42nd minute foul. Montreal extended the lead in the 46th minute as Lappalainen scored again. The Impact padded the lead in the 66th minute as Okwonkwo scored again, thanks to Urruti. Rudy Camacho of Montreal earned a yellow card for a 76th minute foul. Philadelphia saw a yellow card for an 82nd minute Marco Fabian foul. The final was 4-0, with Lappalainen honored as man of the match.

Over in Ontario, Toronto FC hosts FC Cincinnati. Przemyslaw Tyton and Quentin Westberg are the little-known goalies. Toronto was first to score in the 16th minute with a Nick DeLeon goal, via Omar Gonzalez and Alejandro Pozuelo. Mathieu Deplagne received a yellow card for dissent in the 43rd minute for dissent for Cincinnati. The Reds added on in the 50th minute with a Jozy Altidore goal, courtesy of DeLeon. Allan Cruz of the Orange and Blue had a yellow card for his 57th minute foul. Cincinnati got on the board in the 58th minute with an Emmanuel Ledesma goal. The Orange and Blue took yellow cards for fouls by Kendall Waston in the 62nd minute and Victor Ulloa in the 87th minute. In stoppage time, Drew Moor of Toronto earned a yellow card for a foul. The final was 2-1, with the man of the match being DeLeon.

Way out west, the San Jose Earthquakes welcome the Colorado Rapids. Clint Irwin and Daniel Vega are in the six-yard boxes. San Jose received an early gift when Colorado's Lalas Abubakar committed an own goal in the 2nd minute. Kei Kamara of the Rapids had a yellow card for a 24th minute foul. The Earthquakes added on in the 34th minute with a Valeri Qazaishvili goal, via Nick Lima. San Jose's Lima took a yellow card for a 51st minute foul. Colorado's Jonathan Lewis picked up a yellow card for a 59th minute foul. The Earthquakes saw yellow cards for Judson's 66th minute handball and a Tommy Thompson foul in the 68th minute. In the 70th minute, Danny Wilson of the Rapids earned a yellow card for a foul. San Jose extended the lead as Shea Salinas scored in the 83rd minute, thanks to Magnus Eriksson. Colorado got on the board with a Diego Rubio goal in the 88th minute, helped along by Lewis. The final was 3-1 San Jose, with Qazaishvili as the man of the match.

Finally, the Portland Timbers bring in the Los Angeles Galaxy. David Bingham and Steve Clark are the veterans in the penalty areas. Portland racked up yellow cards for a Cristhian Paredes dive in the 16th minute and a Renzo Zambrano foul in the 24th minute. The Timbers drew first blood in the 37th minute with a Paredes goal in the 37th minute, assisted by Jorge Moreira and Diego Valeri. Portland added on in the 41st minute with a Valeri goal, coming off of Sebastian Blanco. Valeri took a yellow card for delay of game in the 42nd minute. Los Angeles received yellow cards for fouls by Diego Polenta in the 58th minute and Rolf Feltscher in the 61st minute, as well as Zlatan Ibrahimovic's dissent in the 76th minute. The Timbers extended the lead in the 81st minute as Paredes scored, thanks to Jorge Villafana. In the 84th minute, the Galaxy went down to ten men as Efrain Alvarez received a straight red card for violent conduct. Portland padded the lead with a Jeremy Ebobisse goal in the 88th minute, passed from Villafana and Zambrano. In stoppage time, the Timbers went down to ten men and Los Angeles was reduced to nine men as Dairon Asprilla and Polenta each received straight red cards. The final remained 4-0 Timbers, with Paredes crowned man of the match.
