The Florida Panthers hosting the Buffalo Sabres. Linus Ullmark and Sam Montembeault are in goal. Buffalo opened in the first period with a Jeff Skinner goal, his ninth of the season, made possible by Jack Eichel and Conor Sheary. The Sabres added on with a Zemgus Girgensons goal, his second of the year, via Brandon Montour. Buffalo extended the lead in the second period as Jack Eichel scored his fourteenth of the season, thanks to Rasmus Dahlin and Zach Bogosian. Florida got on the board with a Noel Acciari goal, his fifth of the year, going in unassisted. The Sabres replied with a Victor Olofsson goal, his eighth of the season, passed from Sam Reinhart and Eichel. The Panthers got one back in the third period with a Brett Connolly power play goal, his eleventh of the year, powered by Aaron Ekblad and Vincent Trocheck. Buffalo capped it at 5-2 with another Girgensons goal, his second of the game and third of the campaign, with helpers from Jimmy Vesey and Johan Larsson. The three stars were Eichel, Girgensons, and Ullmark (43 for 45 in saves).
Up in Detroit, the Red Wings welcome the Carolina Hurricanes. James Reimer and Jimmy Howard are between the pipes. Carolina dented the scoreboard in the second period with a Sebastian Aho goal, his twelfth of the season, courtesy of Teuvo Terabainen and Andrei Svechnikov. The Hurricanes iced it at 2-0 with a Teravainen shorthanded empty net goal, his seventh of the year, set up by Aho in the third period. The three stars were Aho, Reimer (19 save shutout), and Teravainen.
Finally, the Arizona Coyotes bring in the Edmonton Oilers. Mikko Koskinen and Darcy Kuemper protect the nets. Edmonton started in the first period with a James Neal power play goal, his fourteenth of the season, powered by Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid. Arizona tied it on a Carl Soderberg power play goal, his seventh of the year, with assists provided by Nick Schmaltz and Alex Goligoski. The Oilers took the lead in the second period with an Alex Chiasson goal, his second of the season, fueled by Sam Gagner and Oscar Klefbom. The Coyotes tied it again with a Christian Fischer goal, his third of the year, passed from Michael Grabner and Goligoski. Arizona pulled ahead on a Vinnie Hinostroza goal, his fourth of the season, helped along by Goligoski and Jakob Chychrun. Edmonton tied it in the third period as Markus Granlund scored his third of the year, thanks to Patrick Russell. McDavid had the only goal in the shootout, giving the Oilers a 4-3 win. The three stars were McDavid, Goligoski, and Granlund.
