NHL 2022-23 - Day 14

Five games on for this Sunday. First up...

The Chicago Blackhawks host the Seattle Kraken. Martin Jones and Alex Stalock are the backups in goal. Seattle opened in the first period with a Jared McCann goal, his third of the season, coming off of Morgan Geekie and Karson Kuhlman. The Kraken added on with an Andre Burakovsky goal, his third of the year, via Jordan Eberle. Chicago got on the board with a shorthanded Jujhar Khaira goal, set up by Colin Blackwell. The Blackhawks tied it on a Tyler Johnson power play goal, powered by Seth Jones and Patrick Kane. Chicago took the lead in the second period with a Max Domi power play goal, his third of the season, with assists provided by Jones and Kane. Seattle retied it on a Matty Beniers goal, his second of the year, passed from Jaden Schwartz and Carson Soucy. The Kraken pulled ahead with a Vince Dunn goal, guided in by McCann. The Blackhawks retied it on a Johnson goal, his second of the game, with helpers from Jonathan Toews and Taylor Raddysh. Chicago pulled ahead with a Jason Dickinson goal, his second of the season, going in unassisted. The final was 5-4, and the three stars were Johnson, McCann, and Jones, while Kane gets an honorable mention. 

Back east, the New York Rangers welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets. Daniil Tarasov and Jaroslav Halak draw the starts in goal. Columbus began in the first period with a Zach Werenski goal, his second of the season, via Liam Foudy. The Blue Jackets added on in the second period with an Andrew Peeke goal, courtesy of Jack Roslovic and Jakub Voracek. Columbus extended the lead as Yegor Chinakhov scored, thanks to Foudy and Jake Bean. New York got on the board with an Artemi Panarin power play goal, his fourth of the year, going in unassisted. The Blue Jackets replied in the third period with an Eric Robinson goal, with helpers from Erik Gudbranson and Sean Kuraly. Columbus padded the lead on a Kent Johnson goal, his second of the campaign, assisted by Voracek and Roslovic. This made it 5-1, the final, with the three stars going to Roslovic, Voracek, and Foudy.

Down in Florida, the Panthers host the New York Islanders. Semyon Varlamov and Spencer Knight play in goal. Florida started in the first period with an unassisted Anton Lundell goal. The Panthers added on with an Eetu Luostarinen goal, his second of the season, going in unassisted. New York got on the board in the second period with an Anders Lee power play goal, his third of the year, powered by Mathew Barzal and Noah Dobson. Florida replied in the third period with a Ryan Lomberg goal, courtesy of Colin White and Luostarinen. The Islanders shot back with a Lee power play goal, his second of the game and fourth of the campaign, with helpers from Barzal and Brock Nelson. This only made it 3-2, the final, with the three stars going to Lee, Luostarinen, and Barzal.

North to Detroit, as the Red Wings bring in the Anaheim Ducks. John Gibson and Ville Husso man the nets. Detroit led off in the first period with a Dylan Larkin power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Dominik Kubalik and Moritz Seider. Anaheim tied it on a Trevor Zegras goal, his third of the year, via Troy Terry and Adam Henrique. The Red Wings retook the lead with a David Perron power play goal, his fourth of the season, with assists provided by Filip Hronek and Kubalik. Detroit added on in the second period with a Joe Veleno goal, passed from Adam Erne and Pius Suter. The Red Wings extended the lead in the third period as Kubalik scored his third of the year on the power play, thanks to Oskar Sundqvist and Larkin. Detroit finished it at 5-1 with an Elmer Soderblom goal, his second of the campaign, helped along by Michael Rasmussen. The three stars were Kubalik, Larkin, and Husso (32 for 33 in saves). 

Finally, the Philadelphia Flyers host the San Jose Sharks. James Reimer and Felix Sandstrom are in the blue paint. San Jose got going in the second period with an Erik Karlsson goal, his third of the season, fueled by Tomas Hertl and Alexander Barabanov. The Sharks added on with a Steven Lorentz goal, coming off of Jaycob Megna and Matt Nieto. San Jose iced it at 3-0 with a Nico Sturm empty net goal, his third of the year, set up by Logan Couture and Luke Kunin in the third period. The three stars were Reimer (30 save shutout), Karlsson, and Lorentz.
