NHL 2022-23 - Day 15

We've got six games on this Monday, beginning with...

The New Jersey Devils hosting the Washington Capitals. Charlie Lindgren and MacKenzie Blackwood are set to start in goal. New Jersey led off in the first period with a Nathan Bastian goal, via John Marino and Michael McLeod. Washington tied it on a Nic Dowd goal, his third of the season, coming off of Bck Malenstyn and Garnet Hathaway. The Capitals took the lead in the second period with a Hathaway goal, courtesy of Nick Jensen and Dylan Strome. Washington added on with a shorthanded and unassisted Conor Sheary goal, his fourth of the year. The Capitals extended the lead with an Alex Ovechkin power play goal, his third of the season, powered by John Carlson and Strome. Washington padded the lead as Jensen scored, thanks to Lars Eller and Aliaksei Protas. The Devils got one back with a Tomas Tatar goal in the third period, helped along by Dougie Hamilton and Miles Wood. New Jersey got closer with a Jesper Bratt goal, assisted by Marino and Yegor Sharangovich. The Capitals fired back on a Protas goal, passed from Anthony Mantha and Lars Eller. This stood for a 6-3 win, with the three stars belonging to Hathaway, Protas, and Jensen, while Strome, Eller, and Marino get the honorable mentions.

Up in Ottawa, the Senators welcome the Dallas Stars. Scott Wedgewood and Magnus Hellberg are the backups in goal. Dallas began in the first period with a Joel Kiviranta goal, his second of the season, passed from Esa Lindell. Ottawa tied it in the second period with a Thomas Chabot power play goal, powered by Alex DeBrincat and Brady Tkachuk. The Senators took the lead in the third period with a Tkachuk goal, his fifth of the year, courtesy of Tim Stutzle and Drake Batherson. Ottawa added on with a Shane Pinto goal, his fifth of the season, going in unassisted. The Senators extended the lead as Derick Brassard scored an unassisted goal. The Stars got one back on a Wyatt Johnston goal, his second of the year, helped along by Tyler Seguin. The final held at 4-2, with the three stars going to Tkachuk, Pinto, and Hellberg (29 for 31 in saves).

Out in Edmonton, the Oilers bring in the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tristan Jarry and Jack Campbell guard the cages. Edmonton opened in the first period with a Zach Hyman goal, his second of the season, via Evan Bouchard. Pittsburgh tied it on a Rickard Rakell power play goal, his third of the year, powered by Jason Zucker and Jeff Carter. The Penguins pulled ahead on a Sidney Crosby goal, his fourth of the season, fueled by Rakell and the goalie Jarry. Pittsburgh added on with a Bryan Rust goal in the second period, his third of the year, guided in by Evgeni Malkin and Zucker. The Oilers fired back on a Tyson Barrie power play goal, with helpers from Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Edmonton tied it on an Evander Kane goal, his second of the season, assisted by Draisaitl. The Oilers pulled ahead with a Nugent-Hopkins goal, his third of the year, coming off of Hyman and Brett Kulak. Edmonton extended the lead as Draisaitl scored his third of the season, thanks to Kane and Darnell Nurse. The Oilers finished it at 6-3 with a Ryan McLeod goal, his third of the year, with a lone assist from Derek Ryan. The three stars were Draisaitl, Kane, and Hyman, while Nugent-Hopkins, Rakell, and Zucker get the honorable mentions.

Backtracking to Winnipeg, as the Jets host the St. Louis Blues. Thomas Greiss and Connor Hellebuyck are the veterans in goal. Winnipeg got going in the second period with a Mark Scheifele goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Josh Morrissey and Mason Appleton. The Jets added on in the third period with a Sam Gagner goal, his third of the year, via Kyle Connor and Morrissey. Winnipeg extended the lead as Morgan Barron scored, thanks to Adam Lowry and Neal Pionk. The Jets padded the lead on a Cole Perfetti empty net goal, his second of the campaign, set up by Blake Wheeler and Brenden Dillon. This made it 4-0, the final, with the three stars going to Hellebuyck (25 save shutout), Morrissey, and Scheifele.

Down in Vegas, the Golden Knights welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ilya Samsonov and Logan Thompson are the masked men. Vegas started in the first period with a Nicolas Roy power play goal, powered by Reilly Smith and Phil Kessel. Toronto tied it in the second period on a William Nylander goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of John Tavares and Nick Robertson. The Golden Knights retook the lead in the third period with a Chandler Stephenson goal, his third of the year, guided in by Brayden McNabb and Shea Theodore. Vegas added on with a Michael Amadio goal, via Nicolas Hague. This stood for a 3-1 win, with the three stars given to Stephenson, Kessel, and Thompson (22 for 23 in saves).

Finally, the Vancouver Canucks bring in the Carolina Hurricanes. Frederik Andersen and Thatcher Demko tend the twines. Carolina kicked off the scoring in the first period with an Andrei Svechnikov power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by Martin Necas and Brent Burns. Vancouver tied it on a J.T. Miller power play goal, his third of the year, with assists provided by Bo Horvat and Elias Pettersson. The Hurricanes pulled ahead in the third period with a Sebastian Aho goal, his fourth of the season, courtesy of Seth Jarvis and Teuvo Teravainen. Carolina added on with a Jesper Fast goal, via Jordan Staal and Brady Skjei. The Canucks got one back with another Miller goal, his second of the game and fourth of the year, with helpers from Tyler Myers and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. This only made it 3-2, the final, with the three stars given to Fast, Miller, and Aho.
