NHL 2022-23 - Day 119

There's five games on tonight, beginning with...

The Ottawa Senators hosting the Calgary Flames. Jacob Markstrom faces a lesser foe in Mads Sogaard in goal. Ottawa began in the first period with a Brady Tkachuk goal, his twenty-first of the season, via Tim Stutzle and Travis Hamonic. Calgary tied it on a Dillon Dube power play goal, his fourteenth of the year, powered by Noah Hanifin and Jonathan Huberdeau. The Flames took the lead in the second period with a Tyler Toffoli goal, his twenty-second of the season, made possible by MacKenzie Weegar. Calgary added on in the third period with a Dube goal, his second of the game and fifteenth of the year, passed from Toffoli and Chris Tanev. The Senators got one back with a Drake Batherson goal, his sixteenth of the season, helped along by Stutzle and Shane Pinto. Ottawa tied it on an Alex DeBrincat goal, his eighteenth of the year, guided in by Stutzle and Erik Brannstrom. The Senators won 4-3 in overtime with a Stutzle goal, his twenty-third of the campaign, with helpers from DeBrincat and Tkachuk. The three stars were Stutzle, DeBrincat, and Tkachuk, while Dube and Toffoli get the honorable mentions. 

Down in Nashville, the Predators welcome the Arizona Coyotes. Karel Vejmelka and Kevin Lankinen are in goal. Arizona led off in the first period with a Nick Schmaltz goal, his fourteenth of the season, coming off of Clayton Keller. Nashville tied it in the second period with a Roman Josi power play goal, his thirteenth of the year, powered by Mikael Granlund and Matt Duchene. The Predators took the lead with a Colton Sissons goal, his eighth of the season, assisted by Yakov Trenin and Tanner Jeannot. The Coyotes retied it on a Lawson Crouse power play goal, his eighteenth of the year, with assists provided by Matias Maccelli and J.J. Moser. Arizona pulled ahead in the third period with a Crouse goal, his second of the game and nineteenth of the season, fueled by Maccelli and Moser. The Coyotes iced it at 4-2 with a Christian Fischer empty net goal, his ninth of the year, set up by Keller and Travis Boyd. The three stars went to Crouse, Maccelli, and Moser, while Keller gets an honorable mention. 

Up in Minnesota, where the Wild host the Florida Panthers. Sergei Bobrovsky and Filip Gustavsson are between the pipes. Florida got going in the second period with an Eetu Luostarinen goal, his twelfth of the season, assisted by Gustav Forsling and Nick Cousins. Minnesota tied it on a Kirill Kaprizov goal, his thirtieth of the year, courtesy of Mats Zuccarello and Calen Addison. The tie went to a shootout, where Anton Lundell and Aleksander Barkov lifted the Panthers 2-1 over Zuccarello and the Wild. The three stars were Bobrovsky (27 for 28 in saves), Gustavsson, and Zuccarello. 

Out west, the Vancouver Canucks bring in the Detroit Red Wings. Ville Husso and Collin Delia start in goal. Detroit opened in the first period with a Dylan Larkin goal, his nineteenth of the season, via Moritz Seider. The Red Wings added on with a Larkin power play goal, his second of the game and twentieth of the year, powered by Robby Fabbri and Tyler Bertuzzi. Vancouver got on the board in the second period with a Sheldon Dries goal, his seventh of the season, coming off of Conor Garland and Ethan Bear. Detroit answered with a Fabbri goal, his fifth of the year, guided in by Michael Rasmussen and Andrew Copp. The Red Wings extended the lead in the third period as Gustav Lindstrom scored, thanks to Rasmussen. Detroit padded the lead on a Pius Suter goal, his seventh of the season, helped along by Oskar Sundqvist and Lindstrom. The Red Wings continued with a Jonatan Berggren goal, his eleventh of the year, with helpers from Joe Veleno and Filip Hronek. The final was 6-1, with the three stars going to Larkin, Fabbri, and Lindstrom, while Rasmussen gets an honorable mention.

Finally, the Los Angeles Kings host the Buffalo Sabres. Craig Anderson and Pheonix Copley patrol the creases. Los Angeles dented the scoreboard in the second period with an Adrian Kempe shorthanded goal, his twenty-seventh of the season, set up Blake Lizotte. The Kings added on with an Arthur Kaliyev power play goal, his tenth of the year, powered by Phillip Danault and Viktor Arvidsson. Los Angeles extended the lead as Sean Walker scored his third of the season, thanks to Danault and Arvidsson. The Kings padded the lead on a Matt Roy goal, his seventh of the year, coming off of Kempe and Quinton Byfield. Los Angeles continued in the third period with an Arvidsson power play goal, his fourteenth of the season, with assists provided by Danault and Sean Durzi. Buffalo got on the board with a Dylan Cozens goal, his eighteenth of the year, guided in by Victor Olofsson and Casey Mittelstadt. The Sabres got closer with a Peyton Krebs power play goal, his seventh of the season, helped along by Olofsson and Mittelstadt. This only made it 5-2, the final, with the three stars being Arvidsson, Danault, and Olofsson, while Mittelstadt gets an honorable mention.
