NHL 2023-24 - Day 102

It's a slightly busier Wednesday with seven games, beginning with...

The Florida Panthers hosting the Arizona Coyotes. Karel Vejmelka and Sergei Bobrovsky are the goalies. Florida opened in the first period with a Matthew Tkachuk goal, his fourteenth of the season, via Carter Verhaeghe and Gustav Forsling. The Panthers added on with a Sam Reinhart power play goal, his thirty-fifth of the year, powered by Tkachuk and Aleksander Barkov. Florida extended the lead as Sam Bennett scored his eleventh of the season, thanks to Verhaeghe and Forsling. The Panthers padded the lead in the second period with a Tkachuk goal, his second of the game and fifteenth of the year, assisted by Anton Lundell and Verhaege. Florida kept going with a Lundell goal, his fourth of the season, passed from Reinhart and Eetu Luostarinen. The Panthers continued in the third period with a Jonah Gadjovich goal, coming off of Kevin Stenlund. Arizona got on the board with a Dylan Guenther power play goal, his third of the year, with assists provided by Clayton Keller and Alexander Kerfoot. The Coyotes got another goal from Logan Cooley, his fifth of the season, made possible by Guenther and Matias Maccelli on the power play. The three stars were Tkachuk, Verhaeghe, and Reinhart, while Lundell, Guenther, and Forsling get the honorable mentions in the 6-2 game.

Up in Toronto, the Maple Leafs welcome the Winnipeg Jets. Laurent Brossoit and Ilya Samsonov are the backups in goal. Toronto won 1-0 in overtime with an Auston Matthews goal, his thirty-ninth of the season, via Morgan Rielly and Nicholas Robertson. The three stars were Samsonov (32 save shutout), Matthews, and Brossoit (29 for 30 in saves).

Back stateside, the Boston Bruins bring in the Carolina Hurricanes. Spencer Martin and Linus Ullmark patrol the creases. Carolina started in the first period with a Martin Necas power play goal, his twelfth of the season, powered by Brady Skjei and Jack Drury. The Hurricanes added on in the second period with a Teuvo Teravainen power play goal, his fifteenth of the year, with assists provided by Seth Jarvis and Sebastian Aho. Boston got on the board in the third period with a Brad Marchand goal, his twenty-second of the season, made possible by Trent Frederic and Hampus Lindholm. The Bruins tied it on another Marchand goal, his second of the game and twenty-third of the year, guided in by Charlie Coyle and Frederic. Carolina took the lead back with a Jordan Martinook goal, his seventh of the season, passed from Necas and Aho. This stood for a 3-2 win, with the three stars going to Necas, Marchand, and Aho, while Frederic gets an honorable mention.

Out west, the Colorado Avalanche host the Washington Capitals. Charlie Lindgren and Alexandar Georgiev are the masked men. Colorado began in the first period with a Cale Makar shorthanded goal, his eleventh of the season, set up by Andrew Cogliano. The Avalanche added on in the second period with a Nathan MacKinnon power play goal, his twenty-seventh of the year, powered by Mikko Rantanen and Makar. Colorado extended the lead as MacKinnon scored his second of the game and twenty-eighth of the season, thanks to Makar and Rantanen. The Avalanche padded the lead as MacKinnon completed his hat trick with his twenty-ninth of the year, with the help of Rantanen. Washington got on the board in the third period with a Dylan Strome goal, his seventeenth of the season, via Max Pacioretty and Alex Ovechkin. Colorado replied with a Rantanen goal, his twenty-seventh of the year, courtesy of Jonathan Drouin and MacKinnon. The Avalanche continued with MacKinnon's fourth goal of the game and thirtieth of the season, with helpers from Rantanen and Ross Colton. The Capitals got one back with a Strome goal, his second of the game and eighteenth of the year, helped along by Tom Wilson and Ethan Bear. The final was 6-2, and the three stars went to MacKinnon, Rantanen, and Makar, while Strome gets an honorable mention.

Northwest to Seattle, as the Kraken welcome the Chicago Blackhawks. Arvid Soderblom and Joey Daccord are set to start in goal. Seattle struck first in the first period with a Jared McCann goal, his nineteenth of the season, assisted by Jordan Eberle and Justin Schultz. The Kraken added on with a Jaden Schwartz goal, his tenth of the year, passed from Andre Burakovsky and Vince Dunn. Chicago got on the board with a Joey Anderson goal, his second of the season, fueled by Seth Jones and Jason Dickinson. Seattle shot back with an Alexander Wennberg goal, his eighth of the year, going in unassisted. The Kraken extended the lead as Brandon Tanev scored his fourth of the season, thanks to Brian Dumoulin and Tye Kartye. The Blackhawks got one back in the third period with a Nick Foligno power play goal, his ninth of the year, powered by Philipp Kurashev and Jones. Seattle fired back with a Tomas Tatar goal, his fifth of the season, guided in by Eberle and Schultz. The Kraken padded the lead with another Tatar goal, his second of the game and sixth of the year, helped along by Will Borgen. This made it 6-2, the final, with the three stars given to Tatar, Eberle, and Schultz, while Jones gets an honorable mention.

Up in Vancouver, the Canucks bring in the St. Louis Blues. Joel Hofer and Casey DeSmith draw the starts in goal. St. Louis led off in the first period with a Jake Neighbours goal, his fifteenth of the season, via Robert Thomas. The Blues added on with a Pavel Buchnevich power play goal, his fourteenth of the year, powered by Neighbours and Thomas. Vancouver got on the board in the third period with a Pius Suter goal, his tenth of the season, passed from Brock Boeser and Quinn Hughes. St. Louis retook the lead with an Alexey Toropchenko goal, his seventh of the year, guided in by Kevin Hayes and Nathan Walker. The Canucks fired back with a Suter power play goal, his second of the game and eleventh of the season, made possible by Boeser. Vancouver tied it on a Suter goal, completing his hat trick on his twelfth of the year, with helpers from Hughes and Filip Hronek. The Blues won 4-3 in overtime with a Brayden Schenn goal, his twelfth of the season, helped along by Nick Leddy. The three stars were Suter, Neighbours, and Thomas, while Boeser and Hughes get the honorable mentions.

Finally, the Los Angeles Kings host the Buffalo Sabres. Devon Levi and Cam Talbot are between the pipes. Los Angeles was first to score in the first period with an Anze Kopitar goal, his fifteenth of the season, coming off of Adrian Kempe and Matt Roy. Buffalo tied it on a JJ Peterka goal, his fifteenth of the year, guided in by Dylan Cozens. The Kings retook the lead with a Kempe goal, his sixteenth of the season, made possible by Drew Doughty and Quinton Byfield. Los Angeles added on with a Pierre-Luc Dubois power play goal, his tenth of the year, powered by Alex Laferriere and Brandt Clarke. The Sabres got closer with a Peterka goal, his second of the game and sixteenth of the season, assisted by Jack Quinn. Buffalo tied it on a Quinn goal, his fifth of the year, passed from Casey Mittelstadt and Ryan Johnson. The Sabres pulled ahead with an Alex Tuch goal in the third period, his thirteenth of the season, courtesy of Eric Robinson and Peyton Krebs. Buffalo extended the lead as Cozens scored his ninth of the year, thanks to Peterka and Quinn. The final stood at 5-3, with the three stars given to Peterka, Quinn, and Cozens, while Kempe gets an honorable mention.
