MLS 2019 - Week 28

A near-even split between two weekend days is the way it'll work this weekend. Leading off...

New York City FC hosts the San Jose Earthquakes. Daniel Vega and Sean Johnson man the nets. San Jose led off in the 20th minute with a Chris Wondolowski goal, assisted by Valeri Qazaishvili and Magnus Eriksson. New York City tied it in the 40th minute with a Keaton Parks goal. The Pigeons took the lead with an Alexandru Mitrita goal, via Ismael Tajouri-Shradi in the 43rd minute. Shea Salinas of the Earthquakes had a yellow card for a 47th minute foul. New York City's Alexander Callens received a yellow card for a 55th minute foul. Eriksson of San Jose took a yellow card for a 76th minute foul. In stoppage time, Pigeons keeper Johnson picked up a yellow card for time wasting. The final was 2-1, with the man of the match being Johnson for going six for seven in saves.

Westward to Chicago, as the Fire welcome FC Dallas. Jesse Gonzalez and Kenneth Kronholm are in goal. Paxton Pomykal of Dallas had a yellow card for a 5th minute foul. Chicago began in the 7th minute with a C.J. Sapong goal. The Fire added on with a Przemyslaw Frankowski goal in the 16th minute, set up by Brandt Bronico. Chicago extended the lead as Sapong scored again in the 29th minute, thanks to Nicolas Gaitan. The Fire padded the lead on a Nemanja Nikolic goal, coming off of Frankowski in the 39th minute. This held for the 4-0 win, with the man of the match being Sapong for his brace.

Southeast to Georgia, as Atlanta United FC brings in the Columbus Crew SC. Eloy Room and Brad Guzan are the gloved men. Atlanta opened in the 19th minute with a Josef Martinez goal, set up by Gonzalo Martinez and Emerson Hyndman. Artur of Columbus had a yellow card for a 39th minute foul. The Crew tied it in the 53rd minute with a Gyasi Zardes goal. Columbus took the lead in the 60th minute on a Luis Diaz goal. Eric Remedi of the Five Stripes took a yellow card for a 66th minute foul. The Crew added on in the 85th minute when Atlanta's Miles Robinson committed an own goal. Julian Gressel of the Five Stripes received a yellow card for a foul in the 88th minute. Pedro Santos of Columbus picked up a yellow card for his 90th minute foul. The final held at 3-1, with Diaz named man of the match.

Way up north, the Montreal Impact host FC Cincinnati. Przemyslaw Tyton and Evan Bush patrol the penalty areas. Cincinnati started with an Allan Cruz goal in the 1st minute. Montreal saw a yellow card for a 44th minute foul by Daniel Lovitz. The Impact's Orji Okwonkwo took a yellow card for a 49th minute foul. The Orange and Blue had a yellow card for a 60th minute Kendall Waston foul. Rudy Camacho of Montreal received a yellow card in the 68th minute for a foul. Cincinnati went down to ten men in the 88th minute as Waston was booked again for a foul. The final remained at 1-0, with Cruz selected as man of the match.

Back south to Florida, with Orlando City SC welcoming the New England Revolution. Matt Turner and Brian Rowe protect the nets. New England got an early gift in the form of an own goal by Orlando City's Tesho Akindele. The Lions' Kyle Smith picked up a yellow card for a 21st minute foul. Orlando City tied it in the 22nd minute with a Nani goal, via Mauricio Pereyra. The Revolution retook the lead in the 35th minute with a Cristian Penilla goal, courtesy of Carles Gil. New England added on in the 41st minute with a Gustavo Bou goal, coming off of Gil. The Lions pulled one back on a Dom Dwyer goal in the 47th minute, set up by Nani. Orlando City tied it with another Nani goal in the 54th minute. The Lions saw yellow cards for fouls by Robin Jansson in the 60th minute and Cristian Higuita in the 88th minute. In the 90th minute, the Revolution's Antonio Mlinar Delamea had a yellow card for a foul. The final stood at 3-3, with Nani given man of the match honors.

North again to Philadelphia, where the Union bring in Los Angeles FC. Tyler Miller and Andre Blake draw the starts in goal. Philadelphia struck first in the 3rd minute with a Kacper Przybylko goal, assisted by Fabrice-Jean Picault and Alejandro Bedoya. Los Angeles tied it in the 43rd minute on a Carlos Vela goal. The Black and Gold saw yellow cards for fouls in the second half, assessed to Mark-Anthony Kaye in the 65th minute, Latif Blessing in the 78th minute, Jordan Harvey in the 88th minute, and Walker Zimmerman in the 89th minute. The final remained at 1-1, with Vela named man of the match for securing the road point.

Saturday ends in Vancouver, as the Whitecaps FC host the Houston Dynamo. Joe Willis and Zac MacMath are between the sticks. Ali Adnan of Vancouver had a yellow card for a 30th minute foul. Matias Vera of Houston took a yellow card for his foul in the 42nd minute. The Whitecaps got going in the 54th minute on a Hwang In-Beom penalty kick goal. Vancouver's Hwang took a yellow card for a 66th minute foul. The Dynamo tied it in the 78th minute on a Mauro Manotas goal. The Whitecaps reclaimed the lead in the 90th minute on a Fredy Montero goal, made possible by Theo Bair. The final was 2-1, with the man of the match being Manotas despite the loss.

The first of five Sunday games is in Portland, as the Timbers welcome DC United. Bill Hamid and Steve Clark are in the six-yard boxes. DC was first on the board with a gift in the form of an own goal by Portland's Bill Tuiloma in the 25th minute. The Timbers' Eryk Williamson had a yellow card for a 46th minute foul. In the 64th minute, Wayne Rooney of the Black and Red took a yellow card for dissent. The final stayed at 1-0, with Hamid selected as man of the match for his four-save clean sheet.

Also, Toronto FC brings in the Colorado Rapids. Clint Irwin faces his former team and Quentin Westberg in goal. Toronto drew first blood in the 8th minute with a Tsubasa Endoh goal, via Richie Laryea and Jozy Altidore. Colorado saw a yellow card for a Lalas Abubakar foul in the 10th minute. The Reds added on in the 13th minute with an Alejandro Pozuelo penalty kick goal. The Rapids got on the board in the 31st minute with a Keegan Rosenberry goal. Altidore of Toronto took a yellow card for a 59th minute foul. Colorado tied the game with a Sam Nicholson goal in the 62nd minute, coming off of Rosenberry. Diego Rubio of the Rapids received a yellow card for dissent in the 64th minute. The Reds retook the lead with a Jonathan Osorio goal in the 70th minute, made possible by Erickson Gallardo and Marco Delgado. Toronto's Chris Mavinga picked up a yellow card for a foul in the 74th minute. The final was 3-2, with the man of the match being Rosenberry in the losing performance.

Back stateside, Minnesota United FC hosts Real Salt Lake. Nick Rimando and Vito Mannone are the solid keepers. Salt Lake cracked the scoresheet in the 17th minute with an Albert Rusnak goal in the 17th minute. Minnesota tied it in the 20th minute with a Darwin Quintero goal, via Kevin Molino. The Loons took the lead with a 51st minute Quintero goal. Minnesota added on in the 83rd minute with an Ethan Finlay goal, helped along by Romain Metanire. This stood for the 3-1 win, with the man of the match title awarded to Quintero.

Westward to Seattle, as Sounders FC welcomes the New York Red Bulls. Luis Robles and Stefan Frei tend the twines. Seattle kicked off the scoring with a Jordan Morris goal in the 2nd minute. Aaron Long of New York had a yellow card for a 12th minute foul. The Sounders added on with a Nicolas Lodeiro goal in the 23rd minute, helped along by Morris and Cristian Roldan. Michael Murillo of the Red Bulls saw a yellow card for dissent in the 26th minute. New York got on the board in the 27th minute with a Long goal, helped along by Murillo and Bradley Wright-Phillips. Jordy Delem of Seattle received a yellow card for a 38th minute foul. The Red Bulls tied it in the 67th minute with an Alejandro Romero Gamarra goal, passed from Daniel Royer and Marc Rzatkowski. In the 76th minute, New York's Wright-Phillips took a yellow card for a dive. The Sounders regained the lead in the 83rd minute when the Red Bulls' Sean Davis committed an own goal. Seattle's Rolden had a yellow card for an 89th minute handball. The Sounders extended the lead as Lodeiro scored his second of the game in stoppage time, thanks to Roldan and Saad Abdul-Salaam. This made it 4-2, the final, with the man of the match being Lodeiro.

Finally, the Los Angeles Galaxy bring in Sporting Kansas City. Tim Melia and David Bingham are between the sticks. Rolf Feltscher of Los Angeles had a yellow card for a 14th minute foul. Kansas City dented the scoreboard in the 24th minute on a Felipe Gutierrez goal, assisted by Gerso. The Galaxy tied it with a Zlatan Ibrahimovic goal. Sporting saw yellow cards for fouls by Graham Smith in the 43rd minute and Gerso in first half stoppage time. Los Angeles took the lead in the 48th minute with a Joe Corona goal, helped along by Cristian Pavon and Feltscher. The Galaxy added on with an Ibrahimovic goal in the 51st minute, guided in by Feltscher and Sebastian Lletget. Los Angeles extended the lead as Uriel Antuna scored in the 69th minute. Kansas City's Ilie Sanchez took a yellow card for a 76th minute foul. The Galaxy padded the lead as Lletget scored in the 77th minute, thanks to Dave Romney and Corona. Los Angeles continued with another Lletget goal in the 79th minute, fueled by Antuna. The Galaxy kept going with an 85th minute Ibrahimovic goal to complete his hat trick, dished from Efrain Alvarez. Sporting got one back with a Gutierrez goal in the 86th minute, with an assist from Gianluca Busio. Los Angeles' Corona took a yellow card for not retreating in the 89th minute. The final stood at 7-2, with the man of the match honors awarded to Ibrahimovic.

NWSL 2019 - Week 21

A full weekend ready to go begins on Friday with...

The Houston Dash hosting the Utah Royals FC. Nicole Barnhart and Jane Campbell are the gloved women. Houston led off in the 27th minute with a Sofia Huerta goal, set up by Kristie Mewis. The Dash added on in the 62nd minute with another Huerta goal, via Rachel Daly. Utah got on the board in the 75th minute with a Gunnhildur Jonsdottir goal, coming off of Erika Tymrak. Houston's Christine Nairn received a yellow card for time wasting in the 87th minute. The Dash held on for the 2-1 win, with the woman of the match being Huerta.

On Saturday, the North Carolina Courage welcome the Orlando Pride. Ashlyn Harris and Stephanie Labbe protect the nets. North Carolina began in the 6th minute with a Lynn Williams goal, set up by Kristen Hamilton. In the 11th minute, Erin Greening of Orlando took a yellow card for a foul, as did teammates Alanna Kennedy and Abby Elinsky in the 28th minute. The Courage added on when the Pride's Kristen Edmonds committed an own goal in the 37th minute. North Carolina extended the lead as Jessica McDonald scored in the 41st minute, thanks to Jaelene Hinkle. The Courage padded the lead as McKenzie Meehan scored in the 78th minute, with the help of McDonald. Orlando got on the board in the 82nd minute with a Rachel Hill goal, via Danica Evans. North Carolina shot back with an 85th minute Heather O'Reilly goal, fueled by McCall Zerboni. The Courage capped it at 6-1 in stoppage time with a Debinha goal, coming off of O'Reilly. The woman of the match was O'Reilly.

Also, the Washington Spirit bring in Reign FC at Audi Field. Casey Murphy and Aubrey Bledsoe are the young keepers. Washington opened in the 30th minute with an Ashley Hatch goal, assisted by Mallory Pugh. Reign tied it on a Bethany Balcer goal in the 35th minute. The Spirit retook the lead in the 90th minute on a Chloe Logarzo goal, set up by Hatch. Reign tied it again in stoppage time on an Ifeoma Onumonu goal, passed from Jodie Taylor. Kristen McNabb of Reign picked up a yellow card for a foul late in stoppage time. The final held at 2-2, with Hatch as the woman of the match.

On Sunday, Sky Blue FC hosts the Chicago Red Stars. Alyssa Naeher and Kailen Sheridan draw the starts in goal. Chicago started with a Morgan Brian goal in the 31st minute, set up by Sam Kerr. The Red Stars added on in the 33rd minute with a Kerr goal, coming off of Yuki Nagasato. Sky Blue's Raquel Rodriguez took a yellow card for a 78th minute foul. Chicago extended the lead in the 80th minute as Nagasato scored, thanks to Zoey Goralski. The final was 3-0, with Kerr as the woman of the match.

NWSL Midweek - September 11, 2019

A pair of midweek games are on today, beginning with...

The Orlando Pride welcoming the Chicago Red Stars. Alyssa Naeher and Ashlyn Harris are the American keepers. Orlando's Claire Emslie had a yellow card for delaying the game in the 24th minute. In the 39th minute, Chicago's Katie Johnson took a yellow card for a foul. In the 64th minute, the Red Stars went down to ten women when Johnson received a second yellow card for a foul. Chicago struck late with a Casey Short goal at the death, set up by Sam Kerr. The final was 1-0, with Harris named woman of the match after going six for seven in saves despite the late goal.

The other game has the Portland Thorns FC bringing in the North Carolina Courage. Stephanie Labbe and Adrianna Franch protect the nets. North Carolina led off in the 15th minute with a Debinha goal, assisted by Crystal Dunn. The Courage added on with a Lynn Williams goal in the 21st minute, via Debinha. North Carolina extended the lead as Williams scored in the 24rd minute with the help of Merritt Mathias. Portland's Meghan Klingenberg took a yellow card for a 57th minute foul, as did teammate Lindsey Horan in the 58th minute. The Courage padded the lead with a Dunn goal, guided in by Jaelene Hinkle. The Pigeons saw yellow cards for an Alexander Ring foul in the 23rd minute and dissent by Anton Tinnerholm in the 40th minute. Toronto tied it in the 40th minute with an Alejandro Pozuelo penalty kick goal. New York City took yellow cards for dissent by the keeper Johnson in the 77th minute and a foul by Valentin Castellanos in the 84th minute. The Reds picked up yellow cards for fouls by Nicolas Benezet in the 85th minute and Chris Mavinga in stoppage time. The final was 1-1, with the man of the match being Mitrita.

Westward to Colorado, where the Rapids welcome the Los Angeles Galaxy. David Bingham and Clint Irwin are the veterans in goal. The NWSL homestretch is approaching, with four games on this weekend. We begin with...

Utah Royals FC hosting the Portland Thorns FC on Friday. Adrianna Franch and Nicole Barnhart protect the nets. Utah began in the 36th minute with a Becky Sauerbrunn goal, via Christen Press. Portland's Emily Sonnett received a yellow card in the 61st minute for her foul. The Royals' Rachel Corsie earned a yellow card for a 65th minute foul. In the 77th minute, the Thorns went down to ten women as Sonnett received a second yellow card for a foul, while Utah's Amy Rodriguez got a yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct. In the 80th minute, Lindsey Horan of Portland picked up a yellow card for a foul. The final held at 1-0, with Sauerbrunn as the woman of the match.

On Saturday, Sky Blue FC welcomes the North Carolina Courage. Stephanie Labbe and Kailen Sheridan are the keepers. Maximiliano Moralez of New York City picked up a yellow card for a 10th minute foul, as did teammates Sebastien Ibeagha in the 22nd minute and Keaton Parks in the 42nd minute. The Pigeons tied it in the 70th minute with a Jesus Medina goal, passed from Anton Tinnerholm and Alexander Ring. New England saw yellow cards for time wasting issued to Farrell in the 71st minute, Turner in the 74th minute, and Wilfried Zahibo in the 81st minute. Ring of New York City took a yellow card for an 88th minute foul. Juan Agudelo of the Revolution received a yellow card for an 89th minute foul. In stoppage time, Carles Gil of New England had a yellow card for dissent. The Pigeons took the lead with a Medina penalty kick goal in stoppage time. Back stateside, the Philadelphia Union host Atlanta United FC. Brad Guzan and Andre Blake are the strong keepers. Eric Remedi of Atlanta took a yellow card for a 12th minute foul. The Five Stripes were first to score in first half stoppage time with a Josef Martinez goal, set up by Darlington Nagbe. Philadelphia tied it in the 61st minute with a Brenden Aaronson goal, passed from Haris Medunjanin. Marco Fabian of the Union had a yellow card for a 78th minute foul. Philadelphia took the lead in the 86th minute with a Kacper Przybylko goal, guided in by Sergio Santos and Kai Wagner. The Union added on with a Santos goal, made possible by Przybylko and Ilsinho in the 88th minute. Santos took a yellow card for delaying the game. Atlanta's Leandro Gonzalez Pirez picked up a yellow card in second half stoppage time for a foul. The final was 3-1, with Przybylko as the man of the match.

Far south to Texas, where FC Dallas welcomes FC Cincinnati. Przemyslaw Tyton and Jesse Gonzalez are the keepers. Dallas started in the 12th minute with a Ryan Hollingshead goal, assisted by Zdenek Ondrasek. Matt Hedges of the Toros took a yellow card for a 37th minute foul. Dallas added on in the 49th minute with a Michael Barrios goal, coming off of Jesus Ferreira. The Toros extended the lead as Ondrasek scored in the 51st minute. Dallas saw yellow cards for fouls by Dominique Badji in the 60th minute and Reggie Cannon in the 62nd minute. Cincinnati got on the board with an Emmanuel Ledesma penalty kick goal in the 64th minute. The Orange and Blue received yellow cards for fouls by Andrew Gutman and Ledesma in the 65th and 73rd minutes, respectively. Cincinnati went down to ten men in the 75th minute when Kekuta Manneh picked up a straight red card for violent conduct. The Toros' Bryan Acosta was booked in the 85th minute for a foul. Back to the northeast, the New England Revolution bring in Toronto FC. Quentin Westberg and Matt Turner patrol the penalty areas. Andrew Farrell of New England had a yellow card for a 37th minute foul. Toronto's Chris Mavinga took a yellow card for a 57th minute foul. The Reds got going in the 74th minute with a Nicolas Benezet goal. The Revolution tied it on a Gustavo Bou goal in the 88th minute, helped along by Diego Fagundez. The final stood at 1-1, with Bou selected as man of the match.

Out west, Sporting Kansas City hosts the Houston Dynamo. Joe Willis and Tim Melia are between the sticks. Kansas City struck first in the 12th minute with a Johnny Russell goal, via Graham Smith and Felipe Gutierrez. In the 47th minute, Sporting's Gutierrez had a yellow card for a foul. Northwest to Vancouver, as the Whitecaps FC welcomes New York City FC. Sean Johnson and Maxime Crepeau draw the starts in goal. New York City drew first blood in the 10th minute with a Heber goal, via Alexandru Mitrita and Tony Rocha. The Pigeons added on with a 26th minute goal by Gary Mackay-Steven. Hwang In-Beom of Vancouver took a yellow card for a foul in first half stoppage time. Doneil Henry of the Whitecaps picked up a yellow card for a 49th minute foul. Vancouver got on the board in the 64th minute with a Yordy Reyna goal, helped along by Tosaint Ricketts. New York City shot back with a Mitrita goal in the 72nd minute. Michaell Chirinos of the Whitecaps received a yellow card for a 79th minute foul. Mitrita of the Pigeons had a yellow card for an 85th minute foul. Down in Oregon, the Portland Timbers bring in Real Salt Lake. Nick Rimando and Steve Clark man the nets. Portland cracked the scoresheet in the 16th minute with a Diego Valeri goal, assisted by Andres Flores. Claude Dielna of the Timbers picked up a yellow card for a 66th minute foul. Portland went down to ten men in stoppage time as Renzo Zambrano received a straight red card for foul and abusive language. Saturday closes with the San Jose Earthquakes hosting Orlando City SC. Brian Rowe and Daniel Vega play in goal. San Jose was first to score in the 3rd minute with a Magnus Eriksson goal, via Jackson Yueill. The Earthquakes added on in the 20th minute with a Chris Wondolowski goal, assisted by Valeri Qazaishvili. San Jose extended the lead as Wondolowski scored again in the 33rd minute, with the help of Cristian Espinoza. Orlando City saw a yellow card for a Cristian Higuita foul in the 59th minute. On Sunday, the Seattle Sounders FC welcome the Los Angeles Galaxy. David Bingham and Stefan Frei protect the nets. Giancarlo Gonzalez of Los Angeles had a yellow card for a 6th minute foul. Seattle dented the scoreboard in first half stoppage time with a Raul Ruidiaz goal, via Nicolas Lodeiro. Xavier Arreaga of the Sounders took a yellow card for a foul in the 47th minute. Seattle added on with a Cristian Roldan goal in the 55th minute. The Galaxy's Diego Polenta received a yellow card for his 62nd minute foul. Los Angeles got on the board in the 66th minute with a Zlatan Ibrahimovic goal, set up by Sebastian Lletget. The Galaxy evened it in the 75th minute with a Uriel Antuna goal, helped along by Ibrahimovic and Cristian Pavon. The Sounders reclaimed the lead with a Jordan Morris goal in the 77th minute, fueled by Ruidiaz. Los Angeles tied it again on an 81st minute Jorgen Skjelvik goal, assisted by Polenta. Seattle surged ahead in the 89th minute with another Roldan goal, made possible by Brad Smith and Morris. The final was 4-3, and Roldan was the man of the match.

Finally, Los Angeles FC brings in Minnesota United FC. Vito Mannone and Pablo Sisniega draw the starts in goal. Minnesota kicked off the scoring in the 25th minute with a Mason Toye goal, via Jan Gregus. The Loons added on in the 29th minute with a Toye goal. Latif Blessing of Los Angeles had a yellow card for a foul in stoppage time. The final stayed at 2-0, with Toye picked as man of the match.
