Kazakhstan, as Barys Astana hosts Vityaz Chekhov. Ivan Kasutin for Vityaz and Teemu Lassila for Barys are the masked men. Astana started in the first period as Dustin Boyd scored, thanks to Alexei Litvinenko and Mikhail Rakhmanov. Chekhov tied it with an Andrei Markov goal, fueled by Josh Hennessy. Vityaz took the lead on an Alexander Korolyuk unassisted goal. Barys tied it up again as Maxim Spiridonov scored, with the help of Brandon Bochenski and Nikolai Antropov. Chekhov took the lead again as Artemy Panarin scored a power play goal, powered by Markov and Pavel Chernov. Vityaz extended the lead in the second period on a Yakov Seleznyov goal, passed from Evgeny Timkin on the power play. Astana shot back with a power play goal from Bochenski, made possible by Vitaly Novopashin and Antropov. Chekhov padded the lead in the third period when Timkin scored a goal with a lone assist coming from Georgy Belousov. This produced a 5-3 final, with the three stars being Timkin, Markov, and Bochenski, while Antropov gets an honorable mention.
Up in Omsk, Avangard hosts Severstal Cherepovets. Vasily Koshechkin for Severstal and Karri Ramo for Avangard tend the twines. Omsk got going in the first period with a Dmitry Syomin goal, assisted by Sergei Kostitsyn. Cherepovets tied it in the third period on an unassisted goal by Vadim Shipachyov. Severstal won 2-1 in overtime as Vadim Berdnikov scored, with the help of Tom Wandell. The three stars went to Koshechkin (28 for 29 in saves), Berdnikov, and Shipachyov.
Westward, as Metallurg Magnitogorsk hosts Spartak Moscow. Sergei Borisov for Spartak and Georgy Gelashvili for Metallurg received the starting nods. Magnitogorsk began quickly in the first period as Viktor Antipin scored an unassisted goal. Metallurg chased Borisov with another Antipin goal, coming on the power play from Sergei Gonchar and Evgeny Malkin. Alexei Yakhin spelled Borisov in goal. Moscow got on the board with a power play goal by Alexander Budkin, passed from Nikita Shchitov and Branko Radivojevic. Spartak tied it as Anatoly Nikontsev scored, guided in by Alexander Khokhlachyov. Magnitogorsk took the lead back as Dmitry Kazionov scored a goal with a lone assist by Antipin. Moscow retied it again as Andrei Ankudinov scored, and Artyom Voronin had the only helper. Ari Ahonen replaced Gelashvili in goal. Metallurg retook the lead in the second period as Kazionov scored again, with assists provided by Antipin and Gonchar. Magnitogorsk padded the lead as Sergei Mozyakin scored a power play goal, powered by Gonchar, who got a sock trick, and Malkin. Borisov returned to the net in favor of Yakhin at this time. Mozyakin extended the lead Metallurg lead with an unassisted power play goal later. Spartak shot back on a Nikolai Bushuyev goal, with Nikontsev picking up an assist. Magnitogorsk ended with a 7-4 win after Malkin scored an unassisted goal in the third period. The three stars went to Antipin, Kazionov, and Mozyakin, while Malkin, Gonchar, and Nikontsev receive the honorable mentions.
A tad east, Traktor Chelyabinsk hosts Dinamo Riga. Mikael Tellqvist of Dinamo and Vladislav Fokin of Traktor are in the blue paint. Chelyabinsk opened in the first period as Andrei Kostitsyn scored a power play goal, powered by Vyacheslav Belov and Petri Kontiola. Riga tied it in the third period with a power play goal scored by Martins Porejs, with a lone assist from Guntis Galvins. Traktor took the lead back as Konstantin Panov potted the puck, with help from Anton Glinkin and Andrei Popov. Chelyabinsk padded the lead as Deron Quint scored, courtesy of Kostitsyn. This made it 3-1, a final, with the three stars going to Kostitsyn, Fokin (23 for 24 in saves), and Panov.
Northeast to Khanty-Mansiysk, with Yugra welcoming Dinamo Minsk. Pekka Rinne for Dinamo and Edgars Masalskis for Yugra guard the cages. Minsk was first on the board as Joe Pavelski scored a goal, with the help of Zbynek Irgl and Dmitry Meleshko. Dinamo added on as Teemu Laine scored, thanks to Janne Niskala and Geoff Platt. Minsk kept going as Alexander Kulakov netted a goal, passed from Jere Karalahti. Khanty-Mansiysk got on the board as Igor Skorokhodov scored a goal, guided in by Dmitry Altaryov and Denis Grebeshkov. Yugra pulled closer with a Stanislav Bocharov goal, made possible by Kirill Dyakov and Artyom Bulyansky. Dinamo shot back in the second period as Pavelski scored again, with a lone assist from Platt. Khanty-Mansiysk answered with a Skorokhodov goal, coming on the power play via Igor Magogin and Masalskis. Yugra tied it with a goal by Anton But, and the only helper came from Evgeny Fyodorov. Minsk retook the lead as Andrei Stas scored, and the assists were credited to Platt, who got a sock trick, and Karalahti. Dinamo padded the lead with a third period Cory Murphy power play goal, powered by Laine and Stas. Khanty-Mansiysk chipped away with a power play goal potted by Anton Krysanov, set up by But. Minsk iced the scoring at 7-5 with an Irgl power play goal, coming off of Murphy. The three stars belong to Pavelski, Laine, and Platt, while the honorable mentions include all of Irgl, Karalahti, Skorokhodov, But, Stas, and Murphy.
Finally, we end the day in Yekaterinburg, with Avtomobilist hosting Donbass Donetsk. Jan Laco for Donbass and Evgeny Lobanov for Avtomobilist are between the pipes. Yekaterinburg led off in the first period as Sergei Gusev scored, with the help of Alexei Simakov and Josef Straka. Donetsk tied it in the second period with a power play goal by Denis Kochetkov, powered by Ruslan Fedotenko and Anton Babchuk. Avtomobilist retook the lead on a Nikita Tryamkin power play goal, set up by Artyom Kryukov. Yekaterinburg padded the lead in the third period on an Igor Yemeleyev goal, assisted by Sergei Nemolodyshev and Fyodor Malykhin. Donbass answered with a Fredrik Pettersson goal, courtesy of Jani Tuppurainen and Petteri Wirtanen. Donetsk tied the game with a Fedotenko goal, with a lone assist provided by Sergei Varlamov. Donbass took a lead with a power play goal by Clay Wilson, guided in by Vaclav Nedorost and Evgeny Dadonov. This held up for a 4-3 win, with the three stars going to Fedotenko, Wilson, and Pettersson.
