NHL 2019-20 - Day 15

Six games this Wednesday, beginning with...

The Pittsburgh Penguins hosting the Colorado Avalanche. Philipp Grubauer and Matt Murray guard the cages. Colorado opened in the first period with a Matt Calvert goal, via Matt Nieto and Ian Cole. Pittsburgh tied it on a Sidney Crosby goal, his fourth of the season, made possible by Justin Schultz and Marcus Pettersson. The Penguins took the lead in the second period on a Jake Guentzel goal, his fifth of the year, coming off of Crosby and Dominik Simon. The Avalanche retied it in the third period with a Nathan MacKinnon goal, his third of the campaign, assisted by Mikko Rantanen. Pittsburgh won 3-2 in overtime with a shorthanded and unassisted Brandon Tanev goal. The three stars were Tanev, Crosby, and Guentzel.

Along to DC, as the Washington Capitals welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs. Michael Hutchinson and Ilya Samsonov are the backups in goal. Toronto started in the first period with a Kasperi Kapanen shorthanded goal, set up by Trevor Moore. The Maple Leafs added on with an Ilya Mikheyev goal, his third of the season, guided in by Kapanen and Justin Holl. Washington got on the board with a Jakub Vrana goal, his third of the year, via John Carlson and Garnet Hathaway. The Capitals tied it in the second period with an Evgeny Kuznetsov goal, his third of the season, made possible by Carlson and Carl Hagelin. Washington pulled ahead on a Nick Backstrom goal, his second of the year, fueled by T.J. Oshie and Nick Jensen. The Capitals extended the lead as Carlson scored his third of the season on the power play, thanks to Alex Ovechkin and Backstrom. Toronto got one back in the third period with a John Tavares goal, his third of the year, with helpers from Jake Muzzin and Kapanen. This only made it 4-3, the final, with the three stars going to Carlson, Kapanen, and Backstrom.

West to Columbus, with the Blue Jackets bringing in the Dallas Stars. Ben Bishop and Joonas Korpisalo draw the starts. Columbus led off in the first period with a Zach Werenski goal, his second of the season, helped along by Gustav Nyquist and Seth Jones. The Blue Jackets added on with an Alexander Wennberg goal, going in unassisted. Dallas got on the board with a Miro Heiskanen goal, his second of the year, guided in by Alexander Radulov and Taylor Fedun. Columbus replied in the third period on a Sonny Milano goal, via Jakob Lilja and Riley Nash. The Stars got one back with a Joe Pavelski goal, assisted by Tyler Seguin and Radulov. This produced the 3-2 final score, with the three stars being Milano, Wennberg, and Radulov.

Out in Edmonton, the Oilers host the Philadelphia Flyers. Carter Hart and Mikko Koskinen are in the blue paint. Edmonton began in the first period with a Leon Draisaitl goal, his fifth of the season, coming off of Connor McDavid. Philadelphia tied it on a Jakub Voracek power play goal, powered by Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier. The Oilers regained the lead with an Ethan Bear goal, via James Neal and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Edmonton added on in the second period with a McDAvid goal, his fifth of the year, guided in by Kris Russell and Oscar Klefbom. The Oilers extended the lead as Nugent-Hopkins scored on the power play, thanks to Draisaitl and McDavid. Edmonton padded the lead on a Draisaitl power play goal, his second of the game and sixth of the season, with a lone helper by McDavid. The Oilers kept going in the third period with a Brandon Manning goal, helped along by McDavid and Zack Kassian. The Flyers got one back with an Oskar Lindblom goal, his third of the year, courtesy of Voracek. Philadelphia chipped closer with a Voracek power play goal, his second of the game, set up by Ivan Provorov and Giroux. This left it at 6-3, with the three stars given to McDavid, Draisaitl, and Voracek, while Nugent-Hopkins and Giroux get the honorable mentions.

Down in Anaheim, the Ducks welcome the Buffalo Sabres. Linus Ullmark is mismatched with John Gibson in goal. Buffalo struck first in the first period with an unassisted Jack Eichel goal, his fourth of the season. The Sabres added on with a Victor Olofsson power play goal, his sixth of the year, powered by Sam Reinhart and Jeff Skinner. Anaheim got on the board with an Adam Henrique goal, his third of the season, via Josh Manson and Rickard Rakell. The Ducks tied it in the second period with a Rakell goal, his third of the year, courtesy of Jakob Silfverberg. Anaheim took the lead with a Ryan Getzlaf power play goal, his second of the season, with assists provided by Sam Steel and Cam Fowler. The Ducks extended the lead as Henrique scored his second of the game and fourth of the year, with the help of Max Comtois and Silfverberg. Anaheim padded the lead in the third period with a Silfverberg empty net goal, his third of the campaign, with a lone assist by Manson.

Finally, the San Jose Sharks bring in the Carolina Hurricanes. James Reimer and Martin Jones play in goal. San Jose kicked off the scoring in the first period with an Evander Kane goal, his second of the season, assisted by Tomas Hertl and Erik Karlsson. Carolina tied it with a Dougie Hamilton goal, his fifth of the year, guided in by Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho. The Sharks took the lead back with a Kane power play goal, his second of the game and third of the season, powered by Brent Burns and Kevin Labanc. San Jose added on with another Kane power play goal, completing his hat trick on his fourth of the year, with helpers from Burns and Hertl. The Sharks extended the lead in the second period as Barclay Goodrow scored his third of the season, an unassisted goal. The Hurricanes got one back in the third period on an Erik Haula goal, his sixth of the year, fueled by Brock McGinn and Ryan Dzingel. San Jose iced it at 5-2 with a Hertl empty net goal, his second of the campaign, set up by Kane and Logan Couture. The three stars were given to Kane, Hertl, and Burns.
