We've got eight games on another busy Sunday. First up...
The Buffalo Sabres host the Los Angeles Kings. Cal Petersen and Dustin Tokarski man the nets. Los Angeles got going in the second period with an Andreas Athanasiou goal, his sixth of the season, coming off of Mikey Anderson and Arthur Kaliyev. The Kings added on in the third period with an Athanasiou empty net goal, his second of the game and seventh of the year, set up by Alex Iafallo and Blake Lizotte. Los Angeles iced it at 3-0 with a Dustin Brown empty net goal, his eighth of the campaign, with a lone assist by Phillip Danault. The three stars were Petersen (19 save shutout), Athanasiou, and Brown.
Down in New Jersey, the Devils welcome the St. Louis Blues. Ville Husso and Nico Daws are the young goalies. New Jersey opened in the first period with a Ty Smith goal, his second of the season, via Jesper Bratt and Nico Hischier. The Devils added on in the second period with a Dawson Mercer goal, his fourteenth of the year, fueled by Jack Hughes and Jimmy Vesey. St. Louis got on the board in the thirdperiod with a Torey Krug goal, his seventh of the season, assisted by Vladimir Tarasenko and Jordan Kyrou. The Blues tied it on a Kyrou goal, his twenty-second of the year, passed from Brayden Schenn and Tarasenko. New Jersey won 3-2 in overtime with a Dougie Hamilton goal, his ninth of the campaign, guided in by Pavel Zacha and Hughes. The three stars were Hughes, Kyrou, and Tarasenko.
Westward to Minnesota, as the Wild host the Dallas Stars. Jake Oettinger and Kaapo Kahkonen draw the starts in goal. Minnesota started in the first period with a Nico Sturm goal, his ninth of the season, made possible by Nick Bjugstad and Brandon Duhaime. Dallas tied it on a Joe Pavelski power play goal, his twenty-second of the year, powered by Tyler Seguin and Ryan Suter. The Stars took the lead in the second period with a Jason Robertson power play goal, his twenty-seventh of the season, with assists provided by John Klingberg and Jamie Benn. Dallas added on with a Riley Tufte goal, courtesy of Klingberg and Luke Glendening. The Stars extended the lead as Robertson scored his second of the game and twenty-eighth of the year, thanks to Roope Hintz and Pavelski. The Wild got one back with a Kirill Kaprizov goal, his twenty-seventh of the season, fueled by Kevin Fiala and Mats Zuccarello. Minnesota got closer with a Kaprizov goal, his second of the game and twenty-eighth of the year, guided in by Zuccarello and Jared Spurgeon. Dallas shot back with a Benn empty net goal, his fourteenth of the season, set up by Esa Lindell. The Stars iced it at 6-3 with a Robertson empty net goal to complete his hat trick on his twenty-ninth of the year, with a lone helper by Hintz.
Back east, the Carolina Hurricanes bring in the Seattle Kraken. Philipp Grubauer and Antti Raanta are in the creases. Seattle dented the scoreboard in the second period with an Alex Wennberg power play goal, his sixth of the season, powered by Calle Jarnkrok and Yanni Gourde. Carolina tied it on a Nino Niederreiter power play goal, his seventeenth of the year, with assists provided by Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Seth Jarvis. The Kraken retook the lead on a Jarnkrok goal, his twelfth of the season, helped along by Adam Larsson. The Hurricanes tied it again with a Teuvo Teravainen power play goal, his sixteenth of the year, assisted by Sebastian Aho and Vincent Trocheck. Carolina took the lead in the third period with a Martin Necas goal, his ninth of the season, fueled by Brady Skjei and Brett Pesce. This stood for a 3-2 win, with the three stars handed to Jarnkrok, Necas, and Teravainen.
Over in Chicago, the Blackhawks host the Tampa Bay Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy and Marc-Andre Fleury tend the twines. Chicago led off in the first period with a Dylan Strome goal, his twelfth of the season, coming off of Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat. Tampa Bay tied it on a Taylor Raddysh goal, his fifth of the year, guided in by Cal Foote and Mikhail Sergachev in the second period. The Blackhawks retook the lead with a Patrick Kane goal, his eighteenth of the season, via Brandon Hagel and Seth Jones. The Lightning retied it on a Victor Hedman goal, his twelfth of the year, fueled by Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov. Tampa Bay took the lead with a Foote goal, assisted by Anthony Cirelli and Ryan McDonagh. The Lightning added on with a Hedman goal in the third period, his second of the game and thirteenth of the season, helped along by Sergachev and Brayden Point. Tampa Bay extended the lead as Corey Perry scored his sixteenth of the year, going in unassisted. The Lightning padded the lead as Sergachev scored his fifth of the season, thanks to Ross Colton. Chicago pulled one back on a DeBrincat goal, his thirty-second of the year, courtesy of Strome. This only made it 6-3, the final, with the three stars being Hedman, Sergachev, and Foote, while Kane, Strome, and DeBrincat get the honorable mentions.
Up in Winnipeg, the Jets welcome the New York Rangers. Igor Shesterkin and Connor Hellebuyck guard the cages. New York began in the first period with a Barclay Goodrow goal, his twelfth of the season, via Jacob Trouba and Filip Chytil. The Rangers added on with a Chris Kreider power play goal, his thirty-seventh of the year, powered by Artemi Panarin and Adam Fox. Winnipeg got on the board in the second period with a Nikolaj Ehlers power play goal, his fourteenth of the season, with assists provided by Andrew Copp and Neal Pionk. New York replied in the third period with a Kreider goal, his second of the game and thirty-eighth of the year, passed from Mika Zibanejad and Alexis Lafreniere. The Rangers extended the lead as Zibanejad scored his twenty-second of the season, thanks to Trouba and Panarin. This made it 4-1, the final, with the three stars going to Kreider, Zibanejad, and Shesterkin (45 for 46 in saves), while Trouba and Panarin get the honorable mentions.
Stateside, the Vegas Golden Knights host the Ottawa Senators. Anton Forsberg and Robin Lehner are between the pipes. Vegas cracked the scoresheet in the second period with a Jonathan Marchessault goal, his twenty-fourth of the season, via Reilly Smith. Ottawa tied it on a Brady Tkachuk power play goal, his eighteenth of the year, powered by Colin White and Tim Stutzle. The Golden Knights won 2-1 with a late third period power play goal by Jack Eichel, his third of the campaign, powered by Max Pacioretty and Marchessault. The three stars were Marchessault, Eichel, and Lehner (38 for 39 in saves).
Finally, the Anaheim Ducks bring in the San Jose Sharks. Zach Sawchenko and Anthony Stolarz are the backups in goal. San Jose struck first in the first period with a Logan Couture goal, his nineteenth of the season, coming off of Timo Meier and Santeri Hatakka. Anaheim tied it in the second period with an Adam Henrique goal, his eleventh of the year, courtesy of Max Comtois and Troy Terry. The Sharks retook the lead with a Marc-Edouard Vlasic goal, assisted by Nicolas Meloche. The Ducks tied it again with a Sonny Milano goal, his twelfth of the season, passed from Henrique and Cam Fowler. Anaheim won 3-2 in overtime with a Rickard Rakell goal, his sixteenth of the year, set up by Terry and Fowler. The three stars were Henrique, Terry, and Fowler.
