NHL 2021-22 - Day 137

There's just two games on today, beginning with...

The Edmonton Oilers welcoming the Washington Capitals. Ilya Samsonov and Mikko Koskinen are the masked men. Washington led off in the first period with a Nicklas Backstrom goal, his fifth of the season, via Anthony Mantha and T.J. Oshie. Edmonton tied it on a Kailer Yamamoto power play goal, his twelfth of the year, guided in by Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard. The Oilers took the lead with a Cody Ceci goal, his third of the season, passed from Brad Malone and Derek Ryan. The Capitals tied it in the third period again with an Oshie power play goal, his seventh of the year, with assists provided by Backstrom and John Carlson. Edmonton pulled ahead with a Malone goal, coming off of Zack Kassian and Bouchard. Washington tied it again on an Oshie goal, his second of the game and eighth of the season, helped along by Carlson and Evgeny Kuznetsov. The Oilers won 4-3 in overtime with a McDavid goal, his thirtieth of the year, going in unassisted. The three stars were McDavid, Malone, and Backstrom, while Oshie, Bouchard, and Carlson get the honorable mentions. 

The other game is the Vancouver Canucks bring in the Montreal Canadiens. Samuel Montembeault and Thatcher Demko draw the starts in goal. Montreal began in the first period with an Artturi Lehkonen goal, his twelfth of the season, coming off of Jake Evans and Rem Pitlick. Vancouver tied it on a Travis Hamonic goal, his third of the year, guided in by Brad Hunt and J.T. Miller. The Canucks took the lead in the second period with a Brock Boeser power play goal, his seventeenth of the season, powered by Miller and Quinn Hughes. The Canadiens tied it on another Lehkonen goal, his second of the game and thirteenth of the year, via Pitlick. Vancouver took the lead in the third period with a Miller goal, his twenty-third of the season, going in unassisted. The Canucks added on with an Elias Pettersson power play goal, his eighteenth of the year, with assists provided by Miller and Bo Horvat. Montreal got one back with a Pitlick goal, his eleventh of the season, fueled by Cole Caufield and Lehkonen. Vancouver iced it at 5-3 with a Horvat empty net goal, his eighteenth of the year ,set up by Tanner Pearson and Pettersson. The three stars belonged to Miller, Lehkonen, and Pitlick, while Horvat and Pettersson get the honorable mentions.
