NHL 2022-23 - Day 125

There's six games on this Sunday, beginning with...

The Minnesota Wild hosting the Nashville Predators. Juuse Saros and Filip Gustavsson man the nets. Minnesota got going in the second period with a Brandon Duhaime goal, his fifth of the season, via Frederick Gaudreau. The Wild added on with a Kirill Kaprizov power play goal, his thirty-second of the year, powered by Joel Eriksson Ek and Mats Zuccarello. Nashville got on the board with a Thomas Novak goal, his seventh of the season, made possible by Kevin Gravel and Jeremy Lauzon. Minnesota answered in the third period with another Kaprizov goal, his second of the game and thirty-third of the year, with a lone helper by Ryan Hartman. The Predators got one back with a Roman Josi goal, his fifteenth of the season, coming off of Mattias Ekholm and Novak. Nashville tied it on a Nino Niederreiter goal, his fifteenth of the year, with assists provided by Josi and Novak. The Wild won 4-3 with a Hartman goal, his seventh of the campaign, guided in by Jonas Brodin and Jared Spurgeon. The three stars were Kaprizov, Novak, and Hartman, while Josi gets an honorable mention. 

East to Ottawa, where the Senators welcome the St. Louis Blues. Thomas Greiss and Mads Sogaard are in the blue paint. Ottawa led off in the first period with a Shane Pinto goal, his fourteenth of the season, courtesy of Drake Batherson and Alex DeBrincat. The Senators added on in the second period with a DeBrincat power play goal, his nineteenth of the year, powered by Tim Stutzle and Brady Tkachuk. Ottawa extended the lead as Stutzle scored his twenty-fifth of the season, thanks to Tkachuk and Claude Giroux. The Senators padded the lead on a Tkachuk goal, his twenty-fourth of the year, guided in by Giroux. Ottawa kept going on a Batherson goal, his seventeenth of the season, assisted by DeBrincat and Pinto. The Senators continued in the third period on a Stutzle goal, his second of the game and twenty-sixth of the year, passed from Artem Zub and Erik Brannstrom. St. Louis got on the board with an unassisted Colton Parayko goal, his third of the season. The Blues got closer with a Tyler Pitlick goal, his third of the year, helped along by Justin Faulk. Ottawa capped it at 7-2 with a Ridly Greig goal, via Derick Brassard and Thomas Chabot. The three stars went to Stutzle, Tkachuk, and DeBrincat, while Batherson, Pinto, and Giroux get the honorable mentions. 

Out west, the Colorado Avalanche bring in the Edmonton Oilers. Jack Campbell and Alexandar Georgiev are the masked men. Edmonton began in the first period with a Warren Foegele goal, his eighth of the season, assisted by Mattias Janmark and Ryan McLeod. The Oilers added on in the second period with a Foegele goal, his second of the game and ninth of the year, via Darnell Nurse and Cody Ceci. Edmonton extended the lead as Leon Draisaitl scored his thirty-third of the season, thanks to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zach Hyman. Colorado got on the board with a J.T. Compher goal, his eleventh of the year, passed from Nathan MacKinnon and Samuel Girard. The Avalanche got closer with a Valeri Nichushkin goal, his tenth of the season, coming off of MacKinnon. The Oilers fired back with a Tyson Barrie goal, his ninth of the year, fueled by Devin Shore and Jesse Puljujarvi. Colorado pulled back in the third period with a MacKinnon goal, his nineteenth of the season, with a lone assist by Josh Manson. Edmonton replied with a Janmark goal, his fifth of the year, helped along by Connor McDavid and Ceci. The Avalanche chipped back with a Logan O'Connor goal, his seventh of the season, fueled by Bowen Byram and Compher. Colorado tied it as Artturi Lehkonen scored his seventeenth of the year, with the help of Compger and Girard. The Avalanche won 6-5 in overtime with a Mikko Rantanen goal, his thirty-sixth of the season, courtesy of Devon Toews and Compher. The three stars went to Compher, MacKinnon, and Foegele, while Girard, Janmark, and Ceci get the honorable mentions. 

Backtracking to Chicago, as the Blackhawks host the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ilya Samsonov and Jaxson Stauber are set to start in goal. Chicago opened in the first period with a Patrick Kane goal, his twelfth of the season, via Max Domi. Toronto tied it on a John Tavares power play goal, his twenty-fifth of the year, powered by Morgan Rielly and William Nylander. The Blackhawks took the lead back with a Kane goal, his second of the game and thirteenth of the season, assisted by Domi and Jason Dickinson in the second period. Chicago added on when Kane completed his hat trick on his fourteenth of the year, helped along by Connor Murphy and Domi. The Maple Leafs got one back with a Noel Acciari goal, his eleventh of the season, guided in by David Kampf and Alexander Kerfoot. Toronto tied it in the third period with Mitch Marner goal, his twentieth of the year, made possible by Rielly and Justin Holl. The Blackhawks retook the lead on an unassisted Cole Guttman goal. Chicago won 5-3 with a Domi empty net goal, his fifteenth of the campaign, set up by Kane. The three stars were awarded to Kane, Domi, and Rielly.

East to New Jersey, as the Devils welcome the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck and MacKenzie Blackwood are between the pipes. Winnipeg started in the first period with a Cole Perfetti goal, his eighth of the season, assisted by Mark Scheifele and Neal Pionk. New Jersey tied it on a Dawson Mercer goal, his fourteenth of the year, coming off of Nico Hischier and Dougie Hamilton. The Jets retook the lead on a Pionk goal, his eighth of the season, fueled by Brenden Dillon and Scheifele. The Devils tied it again in the third period with a Fabian Zetterlund goal, his sixth of the year, guided in by Erik Haula. New Jersey gained the lead with a Miles Wood goal, his ninth of the season, made possible by Michael McLeod and Jesper Boqvist. The Devils iced it at 4-2 with a Mercer empty net goal, his second of the game and fifteenth of the year, set up by Haula and Ryan Graves. The three stars were Mercer, Pionk, and Haula, while Scheifele gets an honorable mention. 

Finally, the Arizona Coyotes bring in the Columbus Blue Jackets. Elvis Merzlikins and Connor Ingram are the backups in goal. Arizona struck first in the first period with a Travis Boyd goal, his eighth of the season, coming off of Troy Stecher and Christian Fischer. The Coyotes added on with a Nick Schmaltz goal, his fifteenth of the year, guided in by Clayton Keller. Columbus got on the board in the second period with a Boone Jenner goal, his seventeenth of the season, made possible by Nick Blankenburg and Andrew Peeke. The Blue Jackets retied it on a Patrik Laine power play goal in the third period, his sixteenth of the year, powered by Adam Boqvist and Jenner. Arizona won 3-2 in overtime with a Barrett Hayton goal, his eighth of the season, helped along by Matias Maccelli and Stecher. The three stars were given to Hayton, Stecher, and Jenner.
