NHL 2022-23 - Day 126

We've got six games on today, beginning early with...

The Boston Bruins hosting the Ottawa Senators. Kevin Mandolese is mismatched with Linus Ullmark in goal. Boston opened in the first period with a Jake DeBrusk goal, his eighteenth of the season, coming off of Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy. Ottawa tied it on a Claude Giroux goal, his twenty-third of the year, fueled by Dylan Gambrell. The Bruins took the lead in the second period with a David Pastrnak goal, his fortieth of the season, assisted by McAvoy and David Krejci. Boston added on in the third period with a Pastrnak goal, his second of the game and forty-first of the year, courtesy of McAvoy. The final held at 3-1, with the three stars being Pastrnak, McAvoy, and Ullmark (30 for 31 in saves).

Down in Florida, the Panthers welcome the Anaheim Ducks. John Gibson and Sergei Bobrovsky are the masked men. Anaheim started in the first period with a Mason McTavish goal, his thirteenth of the season, assisted by Dmitry Kulikov and Max Jones. The Ducks added on with a Frank Vatrano power play goal, his fifteenth of the year, powered by Kevin Shattenkirk and John Klingberg. Florida got on the board in the second period with an Eric Staal goal, his eleventh of the season, fueled by Radko Gudas. The Panthers tied it on a Marc Staal goal, his second of the year, coming off of Matthew Tkachuk and Eetu Luostarinen. Anaheim regained the lead in the third period with a Kulikov goal, his third of the season, with a lone assist by Klingberg. Florida tied it again with a Ryan Lomberg goal, his eighth of the year, helped along by Gustav Forsling and Nick Cousins. The Panthers won 4-3 in overtime with a Carter Verhaeghe goal, his thirtieth of the campaign, made possible by Tkachuk. The three stars were Tkachuk, Kulikov, and Klingberg.

Northwest to Calgary, as the Flames bring in the Philadelphia Flyers. Samuel Ersson and Jacob Markstrom play in goal. Philadelphia led off in the first period with a Travis Konecny goal, his twenty-seventh of the season, via Noah Cates and Tony DeAngelo. The Flyers added on in the second period with a Nicolas Deslauriers goal, his fourth of the year, courtesy of Cam York and Scott Laughton. Calgary got on the board with a Mikael Backlund goal, his twelfth of the season, passed from Dennis Gilbert and Andrew Mangiapane. Philadelphia fired back with a DeAngelo goal, his tenth of the year, coming off of Konecny. The Flames got one back in the third period on a Tyler Toffoli goal, his twenty-third of the season, guided in by Dillon Dube and Noah Hanifin. Calgary tied it on a Mangiapane goal, his thirteenth of the year, helped along by Backlund and Hanifin. The Flyers retook the lead with a Wade Allison goal, his eighth of the season, made possible by James van Riemsdyk and Laughton. The final held at 4-3, with the three stars given to Konecny, DeAngelo, and Backlund, while Mangiapane, Laughton, and Hanifin get the honorable mentions.

Stateside, the San Jose Sharks host the Seattle Kraken. Martin Jones and James Reimer are the veterans in goal. San Jose got going in the second period with a Logan Couture goal, his twentieth of the season, going in unassisted. The Sharks added on with an Evgeny Svechnikov goal, his seventh of the year, an unassisted goal. San Jose extended the lead as Noah Gregor scored his fourth of the season, thanks to Svechnikov and Erik Karlsson. The Sharks padded the lead on a Mikey Eyssimont goal, his fourth of the year, coming off of Couture and Karlsson in the third period. The final was 4-0, with the three stars going to Reimer (26 save shutout), Couture, and Svechnikov, while Karlsson gets an honorable mention. 

Back east, the New York Rangers welcome the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck and Igor Shesterkin tend the twines. Winnipeg began in the first period with a Josh Morrissey power play goal, his twelfth of the season, powered by Nikolaj Ehlers and Pierre-Luc Dubois. The Jets added on with a Mark Scheifele goal, his thirty-third of the year, via Kyle Connor and Neal Pionk. Winnipeg extended the lead as Connor scored his twenty-sixth of the season in the second period, with the help of Mason Appleton and Morrissey. New York got on the board with a Vincent Trocheck goal, his sixteenth of the year, guided in by Vladimir Tarasenko. The Jets fired back in the third period on a Scheifele goal, his second of the game and thirty-fourth of the campaign, with helpers from Connor and Appleton. This made it 4-1, the final, with the three stars being Scheifele, Connor, and Morrissey, while Appleton gets an honorable mention.

Finally, the Pittsburgh Penguins bring in the New York Islanders. Ilya Sorokin and Tristan Jarry guard the cages. Pittsburgh struck first in the first period with a Jake Guentzel goal, his twenty-fourth of the season, assisted by Sidney Crosby and Rickard Rakell. New York tied it in the second period on a Brock Nelson goal, his twenty-fifth of the year, coming off of Zach Parise. The Penguins took the lead back with a Jason Zucker power play goal, his fifteenth of the season, powered by Jeff Petry and Kasperi Kapanen. The Islanders tied it again in the third period on a Bo Horvat goal, his thirty-fifth of the year, guided in by Hudson Fasching. New York took the lead with an Anders Lee goal, his twenty-second of the season, courtesy of Matt Martin and Horvat. The Islanders iced it at 4-2 with a Nelson empty net goal, his second of the game and twenty-sixth of the year, set up by Parise. The three stars were Nelson, Horvat, and Parise.
