NHL 2022-23 - Day 127

There's nine games on this Tuesday, beginning with...

The Carolina Hurricanes hosting the St. Louis Blues. Jordan Binnington and Frederik Andersen guard the cages. Carolina opened in the first period with an Andrei Svechnikov goal, his twentieth of the season, courtesy of Seth Jarvis. The Hurricanes added on with another Svechnikov goal, his second of the game and twenty-first of the year, assisted by Jarvis and Brent Burns. St. Louis got on the board with a Justin Faulk goal, his seventh of the season, passed from Josh Leivo. Carolina replied with a Sebastian Aho goal, his twenty-fifth of the year, guided in by Svechnikov and Burns. The Hurricanes extended the lead as Jarvis scored his twelfth of the season, thanks to Aho. The final held at 4-1, with the three stars going to Svechnikov, Aho, and Jarvis, while Burns gets an honorable mention.

Next up, the Washington Capitals welcome the Detroit Red Wings. Ville Husso and Darcy Kuemper protect the nets. Detroit led off in the first period with a Robert Hagg goal, assisted by Tyler Bertuzzi and Olli Maatta. The Red Wings added on with a Pius Suter shorthanded goal, his tenth of the season, going in unassisted. Washington got on the board with a Tom Wilson power play goal, his fourth of the year, powered by Erik Gustafsson and Nicklas Backstrom. Detroit replied in the third period on a Suter goal, his second of the game and eleventh of the season, an unassisted goal. The final held at 3-1, with the three stars given to Suter, Husso (26 for 27 in saves), and Hagg.

Up in New Jersey, the Devils bring in the Montreal Canadiens. Sam Montembeault and Vitek Vanecek are in goal. Montreal started in the first period with a Justin Barron goal, his third of the season, guided in by Nick Suzuki and Rafael Harvey-Pinard. New Jersey tied it on a Jesper Bratt goal, his twenty-third of the year, passed from Jack Hughes. The Canadiens took the lead in the second period on a Johnathan Kovacevic goal, his second of the season, fueled by Jesse Ylonen and Mike Matheson. Montreal added on with a Suzuki goal, his eighteenth of the year, via Mike Hoffman and Corey Schueneman. The Canadiens extended the lead in the third period as Rem Pitlick scored his fourth of the season, thanks to Evgenii Dadonov and Christian Dvorak. The Devils got one back on a Dawson Mercer power play goal, his sixteenth of the year, powered by Miles Wood and Hughes. Montreal iced it at 5-2 with a Matheson empty net goal, his third of the campaign, set up by Dvorak. The three stars were Suzuki, Matheson, and Hughes, while Dvorak gets an honorable mention.

South to Tampa Bay, as the Lightning host the Anaheim Ducks. Lukas Dostal is mismatched with Andrei Vasilevskiy in goal. Tampa Bay got going in the second period on a Nick Paul goal, his seventeenth of the season, with a lone assist by Nick Perbix. The Lightning added on with a Ross Colton power play goal, his twelfth of the year, powered by Mikhail Sergachev and Alex Killorn. Tampa Bay extended the lead as Anthony Cirelli scored his seventh of the season, thanks to Perbix and Killorn. The Lightning padded the lead on a Zach Bogosian goal, coming off of Pat Maroon and Colton. Tampa Bay continued in the third period on a Brayden Point power play goal, his thirty-third of the year, with assists provided by Nikita Kucherov and Brandon Hagel. The Lightning struck again with a Corey Perry goal, his twelfth of the season, assisted by Vladislav Namestnikov and Perbix. Anaheim got on the board with a Ryan Strome goal, his eleventh of the year, with helpers from Cam Fowler and Trevor Zegras. The final was 6-1, and the three stars being Colton, Perbix, and Killorn.

North again to Buffalo, where the Sabres welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ilya Samsonov and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen are in the creases. Toronto began in the first period with a Ryan O'Reilly goal, his thirteenth of the season, via Mitch Marner and John Tavares. The Maple Leafs added on with another O'Reilly goal, his second of the game and fourteenth of the year, coming off of Marner and Tavares. Toronto extended the lead as Tavares scored his twenty-sixth of the season, thanks to Marner and O'Reilly. The Maple Leafs padded the lead on a Michael Bunting goal, his nineteenth of the year, assisted by Morgan Rielly and William Nylander. Craig Anderson replaced Luukkonen in goal. Toronto continued in the second period with a Nylander power play goal, his thirty-second of the season, powered by Tavares and Marner. Buffalo got on the board in the third period with a Jack Quinn goal, his ninth of the year, helped along by Casey Mittelstadt. The Sabres got closer with an Alex Tuch goal, his twenty-seventh of the season, made possible by Tage Thompson. Buffalo chipped closer with a Jeff Skinner goal, his twenty-second of the year, with helpers from Rasmus Dahlin and Tuch. The Maple Leafs finished it at 6-3 with an O'Reilly empty net goal, completing his hat trick on his fifteenth of the campaign, set up by Marner. The three stars were awarded to O'Reilly, Marner, and Tavares, while Nylander and Tuch get the honorable mentions.

Along to Nashville, where the Predators bring in the Vancouver Canucks. Collin Delia and Juuse Saros man the nets. Nashville struck first in the first period with a Cole Smith goal, his third of the season, fueled by Colton Sissons and Jeremy Lauzon. The Predators added on in the second period with a Philip Tomasino power play goal, powered by Juuso Parssinen. Vancouver got on the board with an Andrei Kuzmenko goal, his twenty-fifth of the year, via Ethan Bear and Quinn Hughes. The Canucks tied it on a Sheldon Dries power play goal, his eighth of the season, with assists provided by Brock Boeser and Conor Garland. Nashville took the lead back with a Nino Niederreiter goal, his sixteenth of the year, courtesy of Thomas Novak and Roman Josi. The Predators extended the lead in the third period as Mikael Granlund scored his seventh of the season, thanks to Cody Glass and Parssinen. Vancouver got one back with a Garland goal, his twelfth of the year, helped along by Hughes and Elias Pettersson. The Canucks tied it on a Kuzmenko goal, his second of the game and twenty-sixth of the season, made possible by J.T. Miller and Anthony Beauvillier. The tie went to a shootout, where Matt Duchene had the only tally to give the Predators a 5-4 win. The three stars were Kuzmenko, Garland, and Parssinen, while Hughes gets an honorable mention.

Moving along to Minnesota, as the Wild host the Los Angeles Kings. Pheonix Copley and Filip Gustavsson are the masked men. Minnesota dented the scoreboard in the second period on a Ryan Hartman goal, his eighth of the season, made possible by Kirill Kaprizov and Jake Middleton. The Wild added on with another Hartman goal, his second of the game and ninth of the year, going in unassisted in the third period. Los Angeles got on the board with an Anze Kopitar goal, his nineteenth of the campaign, helped along by Sean Durzi and Adrian Kempe. This only made it 2-1, the final, with the three stars going to Hartman, Gustavsson (33 for 34 in saves), and Copley (18 for 20 in saves).

Backtracking to Chicago, where the Blackhawks welcome the Vegas Golden Knights. Laurent Brossoit and Petr Mrazek draw the starts in goal. Vegas kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Keegan Kolesar goal, his sixth of the season, made possible by Nicolas Roy. Chicago tied it on a Cole Guttman goal, his second of the year, via Tyler Johnson and Taylor Raddysh. The Golden Knights took the lead in the second period with a Jack Eichel goal, his eighteenth of the season, coming off of Shea Theodore. The Blackhawks tied it on a Johnson power play goal, his seventh of the year, powered by Patrick Kane and Max Domi. The tie went to a shootout, where Johnson had the lone tally for a 3-2 Blackhawks win. The three stars were Johnson, Guttman, and Kane.

Finally, the Edmonton Oilers bring in the Philadelphia Flyers. Carter Hart and Stuart Skinner patrol the creases. Philadelphia was first to score in the first period with a Noah Cates goal, his ninth of the season, coming off of Wade Allison and Nicolas Deslauriers. Edmonton tied it on a Tyson Barrie power play goal, his tenth of the year, powered by Leon Draisaitl. The Flyers gained the lead in the second period with an Owen Tippett goal, his sixteenth of the season, courtesy of Kevin Hayes and Olle Lycksell. The Oilers tied it on a Draisaitl power play goal, his thirty-fourth of the year, with assists provided by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Connor McDavid. Edmonton took the lead with a McDavid goal, his forty-third of the season, assisted by Draisaitl. The Oilers iced it at 4-2 with a McDavid shorthanded empty net goal, his second of the game and forty-fourth of the year, set up by Darnell Nurse. The three stars were McDavid, Draisaitl, and Barrie.
