NHL 2019-20 - Day 13

We're back on Columbus Day with seven games, six of them coming at early times. First up...

The Boston Bruins host the Anaheim Ducks. John Gibson and Jaroslav Halak draw the starts in goal. Boston led off in the first period with a David Pastrnak power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Patrice Bergeron and Torey Krug. The Bruins added on in the second period with another Pastrnak goal, his second of the game and fourth of the year, via Brad Marchand. Anaheim got on the board with a Rickard Rakell goal, his second of the season, coming off of Adam Henrique and Cam Fowler. Boston replied with an unassisted Pastrnak goal, completing his hat trick on his fifth of the year. The Bruins extended the lead as Pastrnak scored his fourth of the game and sixth of the season on the power play, thanks to Marchand and Krug. The Ducks got one back on a Henrique goal, his second of the year, with a lone helper by Nick Ritchie. This only made it 4-2, the final, with the three stars awarded to Pastrnak, Marchand, and Krug, while Henrique gets an honorable mention.

Along to New Jersey, as the Devils welcome the Florida Panthers. Sergei Bobrovsky and Cory Schneider are the veterans in goal. Florida began in the first period with a Jonathan Huberdeau goal, assisted by Evgenii Dadonov and Aleksander Barkov. New Jersey tied it on a Taylor Hall goal, via Pavel Zacha and Sami Vatanen. The Devils took the lead with a Jesper Bratt goal, courtesy of Zacha and Nikita Gusev. New Jersey added on in the second period with a Will Butcher goal, made possible by Travis Zajac and Miles Wood. The Panthers got one back on a Brett Connolly goal, helped along by Frank Vatrano. Florida got closer with another Connolly goal, his second of the game, guided in by Mike Hoffman and Vincent Trocheck. The Panthers tied it in the third period with a MacKenzie Weegar goal, his second of the season, fueled by Aaron Ekblad and Trocheck. Florida pulled ahead with a Noel Acciari goal, his second of the year, passed from Weegar and Ekblad. The Panthers finished it at 6-4 with a Dadonov power play goal, his fourth of the campaign, powered by Barkov and Mike Matheson. The three stars belonged to Connolly, Dadonov, and Zacha, while Weegar, Trocheck, Barkov, Ekblad, and Hall get the honorable mentions.

Next up, the New York Islanders bring in the St. Louis Blues. Jordan Binnington and Thomas Greiss are in the blue paint. St. Louis opened in the first period with a Brayden Schenn goal, his fifth of the season, helped along by Justin Faulk and Jaden Schwartz. The Blues added on with a Vladimir Tarasenko power play goal in the third period, powered by Vince Dunn and Schenn. New York got on the board with a Brock Nelson goal, his third of the year, courtesy of Michael Dal Colle. The Islanders tied it on a Mathew Barzal goal, via Johnny Boychuk. New York won 3-2 in overtime with a Devon Toews goal, his second of the campaign, coming off of Barzal and Nelson. The three stars were Barzal, Nelson, and Schenn.

In Canada, the Ottawa Senators host the Minnesota Wild. Alex Stalock and Craig Anderson are given the starting nods. Minnesota dented the scoreboard in the third period with a Victor Rask goal, via Jordan Greenway. The Wild added on with a Zach Parise empty net goal, his second of the season, set up by Mikko Koivu. The final held at 2-0 with the three stars going to Stalock (26 save shutout), Rask, and Anderson (33 for 34 in saves).

Back stateside, the Buffalo Sabres welcome the Dallas Stars. Ben Bishop and Carter Hutton patrol the creases. Buffalo got going in the second period with a Victor Olofsson power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by Rasmus Dahlin and Jack Eichel. The Sabres added on with a Sam Reinhart goal, his third of the year, via Olofsson and Eichel. Buffalo extended the lead as Jeff Skinner scored his fourth of the season in the third period, thanks to Vladimir Sobotka and Henri Jokiharju. The Sabres padded the lead on a Marcus Johansson goal, his third of the year, coming off of Jake McCabe and Rasmus Ristolainen. This produced the 4-0 final score, with the three stars given to Hutton (25 save shutout), Olofsson, and Eichel.

In DC, the Washington Capitals bring in the Colorado Avalanche. Philipp Grubauer faces his former team and Braden Holtby in goal. Colorado started in the first period with an Erik Johnson goal, via Nazem Kadri and Andre Burakovsky. The Avalanche added on with a Nikita Zadorov goal, coming off of Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon. Colorado chased Holtby with a Nazem Kadri goal, his second of the season, made possible by Joonas Donskoi and Cale Makar. Ilya Samsonov took over in goal. The Avalanche extended the lead as Rantanen scored a power play goal, his fourth of the year, powered by Gabriel Landeskog and Kadri. Washington got on the board in the second period with a Lars Eller goal, his second of the season, courtesy of Alex Ovechkin. The Capitals got closer with a T.J. Oshie goal, his fourth of the year, via Dmitry Orlov and Evgeny Kuznetsov. Colorado shot back in the third period with a Matt Nieto goal, with a lone assist by Tyson Jost. Washington chipped back on an Ovechkin goal, his fifth of the season, passed from Kuznetsov and John Carlson. The Avalanche iced it at 6-3 with a MacKinnon empty net goal, his second of the year, set up by Rantanen and Landeskog. The three stars were Rantanen, Kadri, and Ovechkin, while MacKinnon, Landeskog, and Kuznetsov earn the honorable mentions.

Finally, the Chicago Blackhawks host the Edmonton Oilers. Mike Smith and Corey Crawford are the masked men. Chicago struck first in the second period with a Patrick Kane goal, his second of the season, helped along by Dylan Strome. The Blackhawks added on in the third period with an Alexander Nylander goal, his second of the year, via Ryan Carpenter. Edmonton got on the board with a James Neal power play goal, his eighth of the season, powered by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Leon Draisaitl. Chicago iced it at 3-1 with a Brandon Saad empty net goal, his second of the year, set up by David Kampf and Jonathan Toews. The three stars were Crawford (27 for 28 in saves), Nylander, and Kane.

NHL 2019-20 - Day 12

Just three games on for Sunday, beginning with...

The Winnipeg Jets hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tristan Jarry and Laurent Brossoit are the goalies. Winnipeg led off in the first period with a Mathieu Perreault goal, his second of the season, made possible by Jack Roslovic and Dmitry Kulikov. Pittsburgh tied it with a Zach Aston-Reese goal, coming off of Teddy Blueger and Brandon Tanev. The Penguins took the lead in the second period with a Jake Guentzel power play goal, his third of the year, powered by Brian Dumoulin and Marcus Pettersson. Pittsburgh added on with a Sam Lafferty goal, his second of the season, assisted by Joseph Blandisi and Kris Letang. The Jets got one back on a Mark Scheifele power play goal, his third of the year, with assists provided by Patrik Laine and Josh Morrissey. The Penguins replied on a Dominik Simon goal, helped along by Sidney Crosby and Pettersson. Pittsburgh extended the lead in the third period as Laffert scored his second of the game and third of the season, thanks to Aston-Reese and Justin Schultz. The Penguins padded the lead on a Guentzel goal, his second of the game and fourth of the year, with helpers from Letang and Crosby. Pittsburgh iced it at 7-2 with an Aston-Reese shorthanded and unassisted goal, his second of the game. The three stars were Aston-Reese, Lafferty, and Guentzel, while Crosby, Letang, and Pettersson get the honorable mentions.

Out in Los Angeles, the Kings welcome the Vegas Golden Knights. Marc-Andre Fleury and Jonathan Quick man the nets. Vegas began in the first period with a Reilly Smith goal, his fourth of the season, courtesy of William Karlsson. The Golden Knights added on with a Max Pacioretty power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Shea Theodore and Paul Stastny. Los Angeles got on the board with an Austin Wagner goal, via Sean Walker and Adrian Kempe. Vegas replied in the second period with a Stastny power play goal, his second of the season, with assists provided by Pacioretty and Theodore. The Golden Knights extended the lead as Stastny scored another power play goal, his second of the game and third of the year, with the help of Jonathan Marchessault and Nicolas Hague. The Kings got one back in the third period with a Dustin Brown goal, his third of the season, assisted by Anze Kopitar and Alex Iafallo. Vegas replied with a Mark Stone goal, his fourth of the year, helped along by Pacioretty and Stastny. This produced the 5-2 final, with the three stars awarded to Stastny, Pacioretty, and Theodore.

Finally, the San Jose Sharks bring in the Calgary Flames. Cam Talbot and Martin Jones are the veterans in goal. San Jose struck first in the first period with a Timo Meier goal, coming off of Logan Couture and Patrick Marleau. The Sharks added on with a Kevin Labanc goal, his second of the season, courtesy of Tomas Hertl and Erik Karlsson. Calgary got on the board with an Elias Lindholm goal in the second period, his third of the year, via T.J. Brodie. San Jose replied with a shorthanded goal by Hertl, set up by Couture. This stood for a 3-1 win, with the three stars given to Hertl, Couture, and Jones (32 for 33 in saves).

NWSL 2019 - Week 24

The final week of the regular season is here, beginning with...

The North Carolina Courage hosting Sky Blue FC. Kailen Sheridan and Katelyn Rowland are in goal. North Carolina began in the 16th minute with a Jessica McDonald goal. Sky Blue tied it in the 26th minute with a Carli Lloyd goal, via Raquel Rodriguez. The Courage replied in the 28th minute with a Debinha goal, passed from Cari Roccaro. North Carolina added on in the 82nd minute with another McDonald goal, set up by Debinha and Lynn Williams. Sky Blue got one back in the 86th minute with a Domi Richardson goal. The final stood at 3-2, with McDonald as the woman of the match.

Down south, the Orlando Pride welcome Reign FC. Casey Murphy and Ashlyn Harris are the keepers. Orlando led off in the 24th minute with a Rachel Hill goal, coming off of Claire Emslie. Reign's Allie Long took a yellow card for a foul in the 27th minute. Reign tied it in the 34th minute with a Darian Jenkins goal, via Steph Catley. In the 39th minute, Marta of the Pride received a yellow card for a foul. Reign took the lead with a Jodie Taylor goal in the 41st minute, set up by Rumi Utsugi. Reign's Kristen McNabb picked up a yellow card for a foul in the 59th minute. Orlando tied it in the 86th minute with a Marta goal. Reign's Celia Jimenez Delgado saw a yellow card for an 89th minute foul. Abby Elinsky of the Pride received a yellow card for her foul in stoppage time. The final remained at 2-2, with the woman of the match being Marta.

West to Houston, as the Dash bring in the Utah Royals FC. Nicole Barnhart and Jane Campbell protect the nets. Utah opened in the 3rd minute with a Christen Press goal, via Katie Stengel. The Royals added on in the 23rd minute with an Amy Rodriguez goal, courtesy of Vero Boquete. Houston had yellow cards for fouls by Sophie Schmidt and Ari Romero in the 26th and 29th minutes, respectively. In the 70th minute, Utah's Mallory Weber and the Dash's Rachel Daly each took yellow cards for fouls. Houston got on the board with a Kristie Mewis goal in the 78th minute, set up by Sofia Huerta. The final was 2-1, with the woman of the match being Rodriguez.

Finally, the Portland Thorns FC host the Washington Spirit. Aubrey Bledsoe and Adrianna Franch are the gloved women. The game ended as it started, a 0-0 draw with no discipline. Bledsoe was the woman of the match for a five-save clean sheet.

NHL 2019-20 - Day 11

Fourteen games on a massively busy day, beginning with a matinee in...

New York, as the Rangers welcome the Edmonton Oilers. Mike Smith and Henrik Lundqvist are the veterans in goal. New York began in the first period with a Kaapo Kakko goal, assisted by Ryan Strome. Edmonton tied it in the second period with an Oscar Klefbom goal, via Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The Oilers took the lead with a Connor McDavid power play goal in the third period, his fourth of the season, powered by Leon Draisaitl and Klefbom. Edmonton added on with a Draisaitl goal, his third of the year, coming off of McDavid and Ethan Bear. The Oilers iced it at 4-1 with a Draisaitl empty net goal, his second of the game and fourth of the campaign, set up by Darnell Nurse.

Later, the Ottawa Senators bring in the Tampa Bay Lightning. Curtis McElhinney and Craig Anderson are the goalies. Ottawa got going in the second period with a Colin White goal, courtesy of Brady Tkachuk and Bobby Ryan. Tampa Bay tied it on an Ondrej Palat goal, his third of the season, via Tyler Johnson. The Senators took the lead with a Jean-Gabriel Pageau goal, coming off of Vladislav Namestnikov. The Lightning tied it again with a Luke Witkowski goal in the third period, made possible by Pat Maroon and Mikhail Sergachev. Ottawa retook the lead with a Namestnikov goal, assisted by Connor Brown and Thomas Chabot. The Senators iced it at 4-2 with a Namestnikov empty net goal, his second of the game, set up by Pageau and Nikita Zaitsev. The three stars were Namestnikov, Pageau, and White.

Out west, the Los Angeles Kings host the Nashville Predators. Juuse Saros and Jack Campbell are the backups in goal. Nashville led off in the first period with a Mikael Granlund goal, his second of the season, via Ryan Ellis and Filip Forsberg. Los Angeles tied it with a Michael Amadio goal, his second of the year, guided in by Ilya Kovalchuk and Sean Walker. The Kings pulled ahead with an Anze Kopitar goal, his second of the season, made possible by Dustin Brown and Walker. Los Angeles added on with a Kyle Clifford goal, helped along by Joakim Ryan. The Blackhawks added on with a Brent Seabrook power play goal, powered by Dominik Kubalik and Duncan Keith. Winnipeg got on the board in the second period with a Nikolaj Ehlers power play goal, his second of the season, with assists provided by Neal Pionk and Jack Roslovic. The Jets tied it on a third period Andrew Copp goal, made possible by Kyle Connor and Carl Dahlstrom. Winnipeg won 3-2 in overtime with a Mark Scheifele goal, his second of the year, via Blake Wheeler and Josh Morrissey. The three stars were Scheifele, Hellebuyck (27 for 29 in saves), and Copp.

Up in Detroit, the Red Wings host the Toronto Maple Leafs. Frederik Andersen and Jimmy Howard are the masked men. Detroit struck first in the first period on a Jacob de la Rose goal, assisted by Patrik Nemeth and Justin Abdelkader. Toronto tied it on a Nicholas Shore goal, courtesy of Dmytro Timashov. The Maple Leafs took the lead in the second period with an Ilya Mikheyev goal, his second of the season, passed from Kasperi Kapanen. Toronto added on in the third period with an Alexander Kerfoot goal, his second of the year, guided in by Mikheyev. The Red Wings pulled one back with a Darren Helm goal, his second of the season, via Abdelkader and de la Rose. The Maple Leafs countered with a Jake Muzzin goal, fueled by Timashov and Shore. Toronto iced it at 5-2 with an empty net goal by Trevor Moore, his third of the year, set up by John Tavares. The three stars belonged to Shore, Mikheyev, and Timashov, while de la Rose and Abdelkader took the honorable mentions.

South to Raleigh, as the Carolina Hurricanes welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets. Joonas Korpisalo and James Reimer are set to start in goal. Carolina tied it with an Erik Haula goal, his fifth of the season, via Ryan Dzingel and Martin Necas. The Hurricanes took the lead in the second period with a Dougie Hamilton goal, his fourth of the year, assisted by Jaccob Slavin and Warren Foegele. The Blue Jackets tied it again with an Oliver Bjorkstrand goal, his second of the season, guided in by Murray and Wennberg. Columbus pulled ahead on a Pierre-Luc Dubois goal in the third period, his second of the year, fueled by Gustav Nyquist. The final stood at 3-2, with the three stars being Murray, Wennberg, and Dubois.

In Canada, the Montreal Canadiens bring in the St. Louis Blues. Jordan Binnington and Carey Price tend the twines. The Canadiens pulled ahead on a third period goal by Artturi Lehkonen, coming off of Jeff Petry. Montreal added on with a Gallagher goal, his second of the year, passed from Max Domi and Victor Mete. The Canadiens finished it at 6-3 with a Domi empty net goal, his third of the campaign, set up by Drouin and Brett Kulak. The three stars went to Gallagher, Tatar, and Domi, while Drouin, Schenn, and Tarasenko get the honorable mentions.

Washington cracked the scoresheet in the first period with a Tom Wilson power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Jakub Vrana and Brendan Leipsic. The Capitals added on in the second period with a John Carlson goal, his second of the year, with a helper from Garnet Hathaway. Washington extended the lead in the third period as Evgeny Kuznetsov scored his second of the season on the power play, thanks to Nicklas Backstrom and Carlson. Dallas got on the board with a Radek Faksa goal, via Mattias Janmark and Miro Heiskanen. The Capitals iced it at 4-1 with an empty net goal by Alex Ovechkin, his fourth of the year, set up by Wilson. The three stars were Carlson, Wilson, and Samsonov (24 for 25 in saves).

Pittsburgh padded the lead with a Joseph Blandisi goal, assisted by Johnson and Lafferty. The Wild got one back on a Spurgeon goal, with assists from Marcus Foligno and Victor Rask. The Penguins shot back in the third period with a Jake Guentzel power play goal, his second of the season, with a lone helper by Hornqvist. The Avalanche added on with a Tyson Jost goal, assisted by Makar and Matt Nieto. Arizona got on the board with a Michael Grabner goal, coming off of Brad Richardson and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. The Coyotes tied it with a Nick Schmaltz goal, his second of the season, passed from Clayton Keller and Alex Goligoski. Colorado won 3-2 in overtime with an Andre Burakovsky goal, his second of the year, helped along by Mikko Rantanen and Samuel Girard. The three stars were Makar, Francouz (34 for 36 in saves), and Burakovsky.

To Nevada, with the Vegas Golden Knights welcoming the Calgary Flames. David Rittich and Marc-Andre Fleury are between the pipes. Vegas began in the first period with a Tomas Nosek goal, his third of the season, assisted by William Carrier and Mark Stone. Calgary tied it with a second period goal by Rasmus Andersson, via Mikael Backlund and Matthew Tkachuk. The Flames took the lead with a Johnny Gaudreau goal, his third of the year, helped along by Sean Monahan. The Golden Knights retied it with a Stone goal, his third of the season, with a lone assist by Max Pacioretty. Vegas added on with a Paul Stastny goal, courtesy of Pacioretty. The Golden Knights extended the lead as Ryan Reaves scored an unassisted goal in the third period. Vegas padded the lead as Cody Glass scored his second of the year, thanks to Valentin Zykov and Nicolas Hague. This made it 6-2, the final, with the three stars being Stone, Carrier, and Pacioretty.

Finally, the Vancouver Canucks bring in the Philadelphia Flyers. Carter Hart and Jacob Markstrom are the underrated goalies. Vancouver struck first in the first period with a Brock Boeser goal, fueled by Elias Pettersson and Christopher Tanev. Philadelphia tied it in the second period on a Carsen Tawrynski goal, assisted by Justin Braun and Travis Sanheim. The Canucks retook the lead with a Tanner Pearson goal, his second of the season, made possible by Tanev and Josh Leivo. The Flyers tied it again in the third period with an Oskar Lindblom power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Travis Konecny and Matt Niskanen. The tie went to a shootout, where Pettersson and Pearson overwhelmed Claude Giroux as the Canucks took a 3-2 win. The three stars were Pearson, Tanev, and Pettersson.

NHL 2019-20 - Day 10

We've reached double-digit days in the new NHL season, with three games to play tonight. First up...

The Buffalo Sabres host the Florida Panthers. Sergei Bobrovsky and Linus Ullmark are in goal. Florida got on the board with an Evgenii Dadonov goal, his second of the season, assisted by Jonathan Huberdeau and Denis Malgin. The Panthers tied it on a Mike Hoffman goal, his fifth of the year, coming off of Dadonov and Vincent Trocheck. The tie went to a shootout, where Jack Eichel and Casey Mittelstadt produced the tallies for the Sabres to secure a 3-2 win. The three stars were Okposo, Girgensons, and Dadonov.

Over in Columbus, the Blue Jackets welcome the Anaheim Ducks. Ryan Miller and Joonas Korpisalo make the starts. Anaheim got going in the second period with a shorthanded Jakob Silfverberg goal, his second of the season, set up by Rickard Rakell and Hampus Lindholm. The Ducks added on with a Cam Fowler goal, his second of the year, passed from Ondrej Kase and Jacob Larsson. Columbus got on the board with a Pierre-Luc Dubois goal, assisted by Seth Jones. The final stood at 2-1, with the three stars being Miller (26 for 27 in saves), Fowler, and Silfverberg.

Finally, the Carolina Hurricanes bring in the New York Islanders. Thomas Greiss and Petr Mrazek are in the blue paint. Carolina led off in the first period with a Teuvo Teravainen goal, his second of the season, courtesy of Dougie Hamilton and Nino Niederreiter. New York tied it with a Brock Nelson power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Josh Bailey and Jordan Eberle. The Hurricanes retook the lead with a Brett Pesce goal, his second of the season, made possible by Andrei Svechnikov. The Islanders tied it again with a power play goal by Johnny Boychuk, with assists provided by Nelson and Eberle. Carolina pulled ahead with an Erik Haula goal, his fourth of the year, guided in by Martin Necas. The Hurricanes added on with a Hamilton goal, his third of the season, fueled by Niederreiter and Jaccob Slavin. Carolina iced it at 5-2 with a Svechnikov empty net goal, set up by Jordan Staal in the third period. The three stars were Hamilton, Niederreiter, and Nelson, while Eberle and Svechnikov get the honorable mentions.

NHL 2019-20 - Day 9

A big night of games begins with...

The Montreal Canadiens hosting the Detroit Red Wings. Jonathan Bernier and Carey Price are set to start in goal. Detroit led off in the first period with a Darren Helm goal, via Jacob de la Rose and Danny DeKeyser. Montreal tied it on a Joel Armia goal, his third of the season, courtesy of Jonathan Drouin and Phillip Danault. The Red Wings retook the lead on a Tyler Bertuzzi goal, his third of the year, passed from Dylan Larkin and DeKeyser. The Canadiens tied it again in the second period with a Max Domi power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Tomas Tatar and Jeff Petry. Detroit pulled ahead again with an Anthony Mantha power play goal, his sixth of the year, with assists provided by Dennis Cholowski and Taro Hirose. The Red Wings iced it at 4-2 in the third period with a Luke Glendening empty net goal, his second of the campaign, set up by Valtteri Filppula. The three stars went to DeKeyser, Bernier (33 for 35 in saves), and Mantha.

Stateside, the New Jersey Devils welcome the Edmonton Oilers. Mikko Koskinen and MacKenzie Blackwood are the backups in goal. New Jersey opened in the first period with a Kyle Palmieri goal, his second of the season, going in unassisted. Edmonton tied it on a Leon Draisaitl goal, his second of the year, guided in by Darnell Nurse and Zack Kassian. The Devils retook the lead in the second period with a Nikita Gusev goal, his second of the season, made possible by Jesper Bratt and Connor Carrick. The Oilers tied it again with a James Neal power play goal, his seventh of the year, powered by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Connor McDavid. New Jersey took the lead again on a Damon Severson goal, fueled by Taylor Hall and Nico Hischier. Edmonton evened it again with a McDavid goal, his third of the season, coming off of Oscar Klefbom and Nugent-Hopkins. The tie went to a shootout, where Draisaitl had the lone tally for a 4-3 Oilers win. The three stars belonged to McDavid, Draisaitl, and Nugent-Hopkins.

Over in Pittsburgh, the Penguins bring in the Anaheim Ducks. John Gibson and Matt Murray guard the cages. Pittsburgh got going in the second period with a Sidney Crosby power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Kris Letang and Justin Schultz. Anaheim tied it on an Ondrej Kase goal, via Nick Ritchie and Brendan Guhle. The Penguins regained the lead in the third period with a Jake Guentzel goal, coming off of Crosby and Dominik Simon. This stood for a 2-1 win, with the three stars being Crosby, Murray (31 for 32 in saves), and Guentzel.

Up in Toronto, the Maple Leafs host the Tampa Bay Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy and Frederik Andersen protect the nets. Tampa Bay started in the first period with a Brayden Point goal, fueled by Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov. Toronto tied it on an Andreas Johnsson power play goal, powered by Auston Matthews and Mitchell Marner. The Maple Leafs took the lead with a John Tavares goal, coming off of Justin Holl and Kasperi Kapanen. The Lightning retied it on a Kucherov power play goal, his second of the season, with assists provided by Victor Hedman and Anthony Cirelli. Tampa Bay pulled ahead on a Kevin Shattenkirk goal, his third of the year, with a lone helper from Tyler Johnson. Toronto evened it on a Matthews goal, his sixth of the season, made possible by Jake Muzzin and William Nylander. The Lightning regained the lead with a Stamkos power play goal, his third of the year, guided in by Cirelli and Point. Tampa Bay added on in the second period with a Point goal, his second of the game, via Kucherov and Stamkos. The Lightning extended the lead in the third period as Ondrej Palat scored his second of the season, thanks to Cirelli and Mikhail Sergachev. Tampa Bay padded the lead as Kucherov scored his second of the game and third of the year, with the help of Stamkos, who earned a sock trick. The final held at 7-3, with the three stars being Kucherov, Stamkos, and Point, while Cirelli and Matthews get the honorable mentions.

Staying in Ontario, the Ottawa Senators welcome the St. Louis Blues. Jake Allen and Anders Nilsson are the goalies. Ottawa began in the first period with a Vitaly Abramov goal, courtesy of Scott Sabourin and Nikita Zaitsev. The Senators added on with an Artem Anisimov goal, coming off of Connor Brown and Vladislav Namestnikov. St. Louis got on the board in the second period with a David Perron power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Ryan O'Reilly and Alex Pietrangelo. The Blues tied it on an Oskar Sundqvist goal, his second of the year, guided in by Alexander Steen and Ivan Barbashev. Ottawa took the lead with a Chris Tierney shorthanded goal, going in unassisted. St. Louis retied it with a third period Jay Bouwmeester goal, assisted by O'Reilly. The Blues pulled ahead with an unassisted Brayden Schenn goal, his third of the season. The Senators pulled level with an Anthony Duclair goal, helped along by Bobby Ryan and Erik Brannstrom. St. Louis took the lead on a Perron goal, his second of the game and third of the year, with helpers from Tyler Bozak and O'Reilly, the latter earning a sock trick. The Blues iced it at 6-4 with an O'Reilly empty net goal, set up by Bozak. The three stars were named as Perron, O'Reilly, and Bozak.

South to Nashville, with the Predators bringing in the Washington Capitals. Braden Holtby and Pekka Rinne protect the nets. Washington struck first in the first period with a Lars Eller goal, via Garnet Hathaway and John Carlson. Nashville tied it on a Filip Forsberg goal, his fourth of the season, courtesy of Matt Duchene and Mikael Granlund. The Capitals took the lead back with an Alex Ovechkin power play goal in the second period, his second of the year, powered by Carlson and Evgeny Kuznetsov. The Predators tied it again with a Ryan Johansen goal, made possible by Viktor Arvidsson and Calle Jarnkrok. Washington regained the lead again with a shorthanded Tom Wilson goal, set up by Chandler Stephenson. The Capitals added on with another Ovechkin power play goal, his second of the game and third of the season, with assists provided by Carlson, who got a sock trick, and Nicklas Backstrom. Nashville got one back in the third period on a Johansen power play goal, his second of the game, assisted by Arvidsson and Roman Josi. The Predators tied it again with a Duchene goal, guided in by Forsberg and Granlund. Washington surged forward with a T.J. Oshie goal, his third of the year, with a lone assist by Dmitry Orlov. Nashville drew even with a Nick Bonino goal, dished from Colton Sissons and Austin Watson. The Predators got the lead on a Mattias Ekholm goal, his second of the campaign, coming off of Jarnkrok. The final was 6-5, with the three stars given to Johansen, Duchene, and Frosberg, while Jarnkrok, Granlund, Arvidsson, Ovechkin, and Carlson get the honorable mentions.

North again to Winnipeg, as the Jets host the Minnesota Wild. Devan Dubnyk and Connor Hellebuyck receive the starting nods in goal. Minnesota was first to score in the first period with a Ryan Hartman goal, going in unassisted. Winnipeg tied it on a Blake Wheeler goal, his third of the season, assisted by Mark Scheifele and Patrik Laine in the second period. The Jets took the lead with a Laine goal, his second of the year, via Scheifele and Wheeler. The Wild retied it in the third period with a Brad Hunt goal, courtesy of Marcus Foligno and Joel Eriksson Ek. Winnipeg pulled ahead with a Kyle Connor goal, his second of the season, made possible by Laine and Neal Pionk. The Jets added on with a Jack Roslovic goal, his second of the year, fueled by Josh Morrissey and Andrew Copp. Winnipeg iced it at 5-2 with a Laine empty net goal, his second of the game and third of the campaign, going in unassisted. The three stars went to Laine, Wheeler, and Scheifele.

Crossing back to Chicago, where the Blackhawks welcome the San Jose Sharks. Aaron Dell and Corey Crawford are in the creases. Chicago drew first blood in the first period with a Dominik Kubalik goal, coming off of Brandon Saad. San Jose tied it on a Kevin Labanc power play goal, powered by Evander Kane and Logan Couture. The Blackhawks retook the lead with an Andrew Shaw goal, made possible by Olli Maatta and Dylan Strome. The Sharks tied it again on a Patrick Marleau power play goal, with helpers from Erik Karlsson and Dylan Gambrell. Chicago pulled ahead with another Shaw goal, courtesy of Alex DeBrincat. San Jose knotted it on a Brent Burns goal, his second of the season, with a lone assist by Gambrell. The Blackhawks regained the lead on a Strome goal, via Patrick Kane and Erik Gustafsson. The Sharks leveled it again with Marleau's second of the game, helped along by Timo Meier and Burns. San Jose gained the lead in the third period with a Barclay Goodrow goal, his second of the year, passed from Joe Thornton and Melker Karlsson. The final stood at 5-4, with the three stars awarded to Marleau, Gambrell, and Shaw, while Strome and Burns get the honorable mentions.

Down in Dallas, the Stars bring in the Calgary Flames. David Rittich and Ben Bishop are the masked men. Dallas dented the scoreboard in the second period with a Joel L'Esperance goal, assisted by Joel Hanley and Radek Faksa. The Stars added on in the third period with a Jamie Benn power play goal, powered by Roope Hintz and John Klingberg. Calgary got on the board with an Elias Lindholm power play goal, his second of the season, with a lone assist by Mark Giordano. The Flames tied it with a Noah Hanifin goal, his second of the year, via Mikael Backlund and Matthew Tkachuk. The tie went to a shootout, where Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau propelled the Flames 3-2 over Tyler Seguin and the Stars. The three stars were Rittich (34 for 36 in saves), Hanifin, and Lindholm.

Northwest to Colorado, as the Avalanche host the Boston Bruins. Jaroslav Halak and Philipp Grubauer are the strong goalies. Boston cracked the scoresheet in the first period with a David Pastrnak goal, his second of the season, made possible by Brad Marchand and David Krejci. The Bruins added on with a Zdeno Chara goal, via Pastrnak and Patrice Bergeron. Colorado got on the board with a Nathan MacKinnon power play goal, powered by Gabriel Landeskog and Cale Makar. The Avalanche tied it in the second period with a Pierre-Edouard Bellemare goal, his second of the year, coming off of Matt Calvert. Colorado took the lead on an unassisted Andre Burakovsky goal in the third period. The Avalanche iced it at 4-2 with a Landeskog empty net goal, his second of the campaign, set up by Mikko Rantanen and MacKinnon. The three stars were MacKinnon, Landeskog, and Pastrnak.

Finally, the Arizona Coyotes host the Vegas Golden Knights. Malcolm Subban and Darcy Kuemper are in the blue paint. Arizona kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Conor Garland goal, via Carl Soderberg. The Coyotes added on with a Nick Schmaltz goal, assisted by Christian Dvorak and Barrett Hayton. Vegas got on the board with a Shea Theodore goal, passed from Brayden McNabb and Cody Glass. Arizona replied in the second period with another Garland goal, his second of the game, going in unassisted. The Coyotes extended the lead as Niklas Hjalmarsson scored, thanks to Clayton Keller and Soderberg. The final was 4-1, with the three stars given to Garland, Kuemper (37 for 38 in saves), and Soderberg.

NHL 2019-20 - Day 8

Three games on tonight, beginning with...

The Buffalo Sabres hosting the Montreal Canadiens. Keith Kinkaid and Carter Hutton play in goal. Buffalo started in the first period with a Victor Olofsson power play goal, his fourth of the season, powered by Jack Eichel and Rasmus Dahlin. Montreal tied it on a Joel Armia shorthanded goal, set up by Nate Thompson. The Canadiens took the lead with an Armia power play goal, with a lone assist by Nick Suzuki. The Sabres tied it again in the second period with an Eichel power play goal, his second of the year, with helpers from Dahlin and Sam Reinhart. Buffalo took the lead with an unassisted Eichel goal, his second of the game and third of the season. The Sabres added on with a Jeff Skinner goal in the third period, his third of the year, passed from Marcus Johansson. Montreal got one back with a Jesperi Kotkaniemi goal, his second of the season, made possible by Armia and Jonathan Drouin. The Canadiens tied it as Ben Chiarot scored, thanks to Artturi Lehkonen and Mike Reilly. Buffalo won 5-4 in overtime with a Johansson goal, his second of the year, via Colin Miller and Eichel. The three stars were Eichel, Johansson, and Armia, while Dahlin gets an honorable mention.

Next up, the Philadelphia Flyers welcome the New Jersey Devils. Cory Schneider and Carter Hart are the goalies. Philadelphia got going in the second period with an Ivan Provorov power play goal, powered by Matt Niskanen and Travis Konecny. The Flyers added on with a Kevin Hayes power play goal in the third period, with a lone helper by Claude Giroux. Philadelphia extended the lead as Sean Couturier scored, thanks to Oskar Lindblom and Provorov. The Flyers padded the lead on a Konecny goal, his third of the campaign, going in unassisted. The final held at 4-0, with the three stars given to Hart (25 save shutout), Provorov, and Konecny.

Finally, the Vancouver Canucks bring in the Los Angeles Kings. Jonathan Quick and Jacob Markstrom are set to start in goal. Vancouver opened in the first period with a Quinn Hughes power play goal, powered by Tanner Pearson and Adam Gaudette. The Canucks added on with a Brandon Sutter goal, courtesy of Jake Virtanen and J.T. Miller. Vancouver extended the lead as Elias Pettersson scored, thanks to Sutter. Los Angeles got on the board with a Tyler Toffoli goal, his second of the season, made possible by Carl Grundstrom and Ben Hutton. The Canucks replied with a J.T. Miller goal, going in unassisted. The Kings got one back with a Sean Walker goal, his second of the year, helped along by Anze Kopitar in the third period. Vancouver answered with a Christopher Tanev goal, assisted by Hughes and Brock Boeser. The Canucks padded the lead as Alexander Edler scored his second of the season, with the help of Miller and Troy Stecher. Vancouver kept going with a Josh Leivo goal, coming off of Bo Horvat and Pearson. The Canucks finished it at 8-2 with another Sutter goal, with a lone helper from Micheal Ferland. The three stars were Miller, Sutter, and Hughes, while Pearson gets an honorable mention.
