NHL 2022-23 - Day 17

Three games on for Wednesday's slate, beginning with...

The Battle of New York, as the Islanders host the Rangers. Jaroslav Halak and Ilya Sorokin man the nets. The Islanders got going in the second period with a Kyle Palmieri goal, via Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Ryan Pulock. The Islanders added on in the third period with a Josh Bailey goal, courtesy of Adam Pelech and Mathew Barzal. The Islanders extended the lead as Palmieri scored his second of the game, thanks to Pelech and Pageau. The final was 3-0, with the three stars awarded to Sorokin (41 save shutout), Palmieri, and Pelech, while Pageau gets an honorable mention.

Out west, the St. Louis Blues welcome the Edmonton Oilers. Stuart Skinner and Jordan Binnington are in the blue paint. Edmonton started in the first period with a Jesse Puljujarvi goal, courtesy of Darnell Nurse and Warren Foegele. St. Louis tied it in the second period with a Ryan O'Reilly power play goal, passed from Justin Faulk and Brayden Schenn. The Oilers gained the lead in the third period on a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins goal, his fourth of the season, assisted by Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman. Edmonton iced it at 3-1 with a Hyman empty net goal, his third of the year, set up by Leon Draisaitl and Evander Kane. The three stars were Skinner (37 for 38 in saves), Hyman, and Nugent-Hopkins.

Finally, the Anaheim Ducks bring in the Tampa Bay Lightning. Brian Elliott and John Gibson are the veterans in goal. Anaheim opened in the first period with a Trevor Zegras goal, his fourth of the season, guided in by Dmitry Kulikov and Troy Terry. Tampa Bay tied it on a Mikhail Sergachev goal, coming off of Nick Paul and Nick Perbix. The Lightning took the lead with a Nikita Kucherov goal, his second of the year, assisted by Victor Hedman and Philippe Myers. The Ducks retied it in the second period with a Terry goal, his fourth of the season, going in unassisted. Tampa Bay retook the lead in the third period with a Brandon Hagel power play goal, his third of the year, powered by Sergachev and Ross Colton. The Lightning iced it at 4-2 with a Paul empty net goal, his second of the campaign, set up by Hedman. The three stars were Sergachev, Paul, and Terry, while Hedman gets an honorable mention.

NHL 2022-23 - Day 16

It's a 10-game Tuesday on this schedule, beginning with...

The Boston Bruins hosting the Dallas Stars. Jake Oettinger and Linus Ullmark tend the twines. Boston started in the first period with a David Pastrnak power play goal, his fifth of the season, fueled by Hampus Lindholm and David Krejci. Dallas tied it in the second period with a Wyatt Johnston goal, his third of the year, guided in by Ty Dellandrea and Jamie Benn. The Bruins took the lead with a Taylor Hall goal, his fourth of the season, via Pastrnak and Matt Grzelcyk. Boston finished it at 3-1 with a Patrice Bergeron empty net goal, his fourth of the year, going in unassisted. The three stars belonged to Pastrnak, Hall, and Ullmark (30 for 31 in saves).

Up in Montreal, the Canadiens welcome the Minnesota Wild. Marc-Andre Fleury and Jake Allen are the veterans in goal. Minnesota began in the first period with a Joel Eriksson Ek goal, his third of the season, coming off of Brandon Duhaime and Jacob Middleton. Montreal tied it in the second period with a Cole Caufield goal, his fifth of the year, guided in by Chris Wideman and Sean Monahan. The Wild retook the lead with a Duhaime goal, his second of the season, via Frederick Gaudreau. Minnesota iced it at 3-1 with an empty net goal by Eriksson Ek, his second of the game and fourth of the year, going in unassisted. The three stars belonged to Eriksson Ek, Duhaime, and Fleury (26 for 27 in saves).

Back stateside, the Columbus Blue Jackets bring in the Arizona Coyotes. Connor Ingram and Daniil Tarasov are the inexperienced goalies. Arizona opened in the first period with a Shayne Gostisbehere power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Travis Boyd and Clayton Keller. The Coyotes added on with a Zack Kassian goal, via Nick Ritchie. Arizona extended the lead in the second period as Gostisbehere scored his second of the game and fourth of the year, thanks to Keller and Josh Brown. The Coyotes padded the lead on a Dylan Guenther power play goal, his second of the season, with assists provided by Juuso Valimaki and Matias Maccelli. Arizona continued in the third period with a Jack McBain goal, courtesy of Christian Fischer and Liam O'Brien. Elvis Merzlikins replaced Tarasov in goal. Columbus got on the board with a Johnny Gaudreau goal, his fifth of the year, helped along by Zach Werenski and Jake Bean. The Blue Jackets got one back with a Kent Johnson goal, his third of the season, with helpers from Gustav Nyquist and Cole Sillinger. The Coyotes responded with a Lawson Crouse empty net goal, his second of the year, set up by Gostisbehere and Keller. Columbus grabbed one more on an Andrew Peeke goal, his second of the campaign, passed from Sean Kuraly and Bean. The three stars of the 6-3 game were Gostisbehere, Keller, and Bean.

Along to Detroit, as the Red Wings host the New Jersey Devils. Vitek Vanecek and Alex Nedeljkovic are in the blue paint. Detroit led off in the first period with a Dylan Larkin goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Dominik Kubalik and Adam Erne. New Jersey tied it on a Dawson Mercer goal, his third of the year, assisted by John Marino and Ryan Graves. The Devils pulled ahead with a Jack Hughes goal, his second of the season, via Jesper Bratt and Damon Severson. New Jersey added on in the second period with a Bratt power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Hughes and Dougie Hamilton. The Devils extended the lead as Yegor Sharangovich scored a shorthanded goal, his second of the season, set up by Graves. The Red Wings got one back in the third period with a Kubalik goal, his fourth of the year, with helpers from Robert Hagg and Michael Rasmussen. New Jersey replied with a Nico Hischier goal, his third of the season, made possible by Tomas Tatar. The Devils padded the lead on a Bratt goal, his second of the game and third of the year, guided in by Michael McLeod and Hamilton. The final was 6-2, with the three stars being Bratt, Hughes, and Kubalik, while Hamilton and Graves get the honorable mentions.

East to New York, as the Rangers welcome the Colorado Avalanche. Alexandar Georgiev and Igor Shesterkin are the former teammates in goal. Colorado struck first in the first period with a Valeri Nichushkin power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon. New York tied it in the second period with a Barclay Goodrow goal, his second of the year, fueled by Jacob Trouba and Sammy Blais. The Avalanche took the lead back in the third period with a Logan O'Connor shorthanded goal, set up by Andrew Cogliano. The Rangers tied it with an Adam Fox goal, his second of the season, helped along by Jimmy Vesey and Goodrow. The tie went to a shootout, where Mikko Rantanen and Evan Rodrigues lifted the Avalanche to a 3-2 win over Artemi Panarin and the Rangers. The three stars were Goodrow, Georgiev (44 for 46 in saves), and Shesterkin (42 for 44 in saves).

Westward to Chicago, as the Blackhawks bring in the Florida Panthers. Sergei Bobrovsky and Alex Stalock are set to start in goal. Chicago kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Taylor Raddysh power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Tyler Johnson and Patrick Kane. The Blackhawks added on with a Kane goal, assisted by Andreas Athanasiou and Max Domi. Chicago extended the lead as Philipp Kurashev scored his second of the year in the second period, thanks to MacKenzie Entwistle and Caleb Jones. Florida got on the board in the third period with an Eetu Luostarinen goal, his third of the season, helped along by Colin White and Anton Lundell. The Panthers got closer with a Matthew Tkachuk goal, his fourth of the year, via Brandon Montour and Carter Verhaeghe. The Blackhawks iced it at 4-2 with a Jonathan Toews empty net goal, his third of the campaign, set up by Jason Dickinson. The three stars were Kane, Kurashev, and Stalock (29 for 31 in saves).

Northwest to Calgary, as the Flames host the Pittsburgh Penguins. Casey DeSmith and Jacob Markstrom man the nets. Calgary drew first blood in the first period with a Nazem Kadri goal, his third of the season, assisted by Andrew Mangiapane and Dillon Dube. The Flames added on with another Kadri goal, his second of the game and fourth of the year, going in unassisted. Calgary extended the lead in the second period on a Jonathan Huberdeau power play goal, powered by Rasmus Andersson and Kadri. Pittsburgh got on the board with an Evgeni Malkin power play goal, his fourth of the season, with assists provided by Jeff Carter and Sam Poulin. The Flames replied with a Michael Stone goal, his second of the year, fueled by Milan Lucic and Brett Ritchie. The final held at 4-1, with the three stars being Kadri, Markstrom (32 for 33 in saves), and Huberdeau.

In Seattle, the Kraken welcome the Buffalo Sabres. Eric Comrie and Martin Jones are between the pipes. Seattle dented the scoreboard in the first period with a Jamie Oleksiak goal, via Daniel Sprong and Yanni Gourde. The Kraken added on with a Morgan Geekie goal, made possible by Brandon Tanev and Vince Dunn. Seattle extended the lead in the second period as Sprong scored, thanks to Tanev. Buffalo got on the board with a Dylan Cozens goal, his second of the season, courtesy of Vinnie Hinostroza and Rasmus Dahlin. The Kraken replied with a Jared McCann power play goal, his fourth of the year, powered by Andre Burakovsky and Dunn. Seattle padded the lead in the third period with a Matty Beniers power play goal, his third of the season, with assists provided by Justin Schultz and Sprong. The final remained at 5-1, with the three stars awarded to Sprong, Tanev, and Dunn.

Down in Los Angeles, the Kings bring in the Tampa Bay Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy and Jonathan Quick protect the nets. Los Angeles was first to score in the first period with a Phillip Danault goal, his fourth of the season, courtesy of Gabriel Vilardi and Mikey Anderson. Tampa Bay tied it on a Brandon Hagel goal, his second of the year, going in unassisted. The Kings retook the lead in the second period with a Vilardi power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by Drew Doughty and Kevin Fiala. Los Angeles added on with a Blake Lizotte goal, coming off of Brandt Clarke and Arthur Kaliyev. The Kings extended the lead in the third period as Adrian Kempe scored his fifth of the year, thanks to Anze Kopitar. The Lightning got one back with a Nikita Kucherov unassisted goal. The final remained at 4-2, with the three stars being Vilardi, Lizotte, and Kempe.

Finally, the San Jose Sharks host the Vegas Golden Knights. Adin Hill and James Reimer are the goalies. Vegas got going in the first period with a Phil Kessel goal, assisted by Brett Howden. San Jose tied it in the second period with a Nico Sturm goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Kevin Labanc and Evgeny Svechnikov. The Sharks pulled ahead on a Matt Nieto goal, via Tomas Hertl and Marc-Edouard Vlasic. The Golden Knights tied it in the third period with a Shea Theodore goal, his second of the year, fueled by Brayden McNabb and Jonathan Marchessault. Vegas took the lead with a William Karlsson goal, his third of the season, passed from Reilly Smith and Alec Martinez. The Golden Knights added on with a Mark Stone goal, his second of the year, with helpers from Chandler Stephenson and Theodore. This made it 4-2, the final, with the three stars being Theodore, Kessel, and Karlsson.

NHL 2022-23 - Day 15

We've got six games on this Monday, beginning with...

The New Jersey Devils hosting the Washington Capitals. Charlie Lindgren and MacKenzie Blackwood are set to start in goal. New Jersey led off in the first period with a Nathan Bastian goal, via John Marino and Michael McLeod. Washington tied it on a Nic Dowd goal, his third of the season, coming off of Bck Malenstyn and Garnet Hathaway. The Capitals took the lead in the second period with a Hathaway goal, courtesy of Nick Jensen and Dylan Strome. Washington added on with a shorthanded and unassisted Conor Sheary goal, his fourth of the year. The Capitals extended the lead with an Alex Ovechkin power play goal, his third of the season, powered by John Carlson and Strome. Washington padded the lead as Jensen scored, thanks to Lars Eller and Aliaksei Protas. The Devils got one back with a Tomas Tatar goal in the third period, helped along by Dougie Hamilton and Miles Wood. New Jersey got closer with a Jesper Bratt goal, assisted by Marino and Yegor Sharangovich. The Capitals fired back on a Protas goal, passed from Anthony Mantha and Lars Eller. This stood for a 6-3 win, with the three stars belonging to Hathaway, Protas, and Jensen, while Strome, Eller, and Marino get the honorable mentions.

Up in Ottawa, the Senators welcome the Dallas Stars. Scott Wedgewood and Magnus Hellberg are the backups in goal. Ottawa tied it in the second period with a Thomas Chabot power play goal, powered by Alex DeBrincat and Brady Tkachuk. The Senators took the lead in the third period with a Tkachuk goal, his fifth of the year, courtesy of Tim Stutzle and Drake Batherson. Ottawa added on with a Shane Pinto goal, his fifth of the season, going in unassisted. The Senators extended the lead as Derick Brassard scored an unassisted goal. The Stars got one back on a Wyatt Johnston goal, his second of the year, helped along by Tyler Seguin. The final held at 4-2, with the three stars going to Tkachuk, Pinto, and Hellberg (29 for 31 in saves).

Out in Edmonton, the Oilers bring in the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tristan Jarry and Jack Campbell guard the cages. Pittsburgh added on with a Bryan Rust goal in the second period, his third of the year, guided in by Evgeni Malkin and Zucker. The Oilers fired back on a Tyson Barrie power play goal, with helpers from Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Edmonton tied it on an Evander Kane goal, his second of the season, assisted by Draisaitl. Winnipeg extended the lead as Morgan Barron scored, thanks to Adam Lowry and Neal Pionk. The Jets padded the lead on a Cole Perfetti empty net goal, his second of the campaign, set up by Blake Wheeler and Brenden Dillon. This made it 4-0, the final, with the three stars going to Hellebuyck (25 save shutout), Morrissey, and Scheifele.

Down in Vegas, the Golden Knights welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ilya Samsonov and Logan Thompson are the masked men. Vegas started in the first period with a Nicolas Roy power play goal, powered by Reilly Smith and Phil Kessel. Toronto tied it in the second period on a William Nylander goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of John Tavares and Nick Robertson. The Golden Knights retook the lead in the third period with a Chandler Stephenson goal, his third of the year, guided in by Brayden McNabb and Shea Theodore. Vegas added on with a Michael Amadio goal, via Nicolas Hague. This stood for a 3-1 win, with the three stars given to Stephenson, Kessel, and Thompson (22 for 23 in saves).

Finally, the Vancouver Canucks bring in the Carolina Hurricanes. Frederik Andersen and Thatcher Demko tend the twines. Carolina kicked off the scoring in the first period with an Andrei Svechnikov power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by Martin Necas and Brent Burns. Vancouver tied it on a J.T. Miller power play goal, his third of the year, with assists provided by Bo Horvat and Elias Pettersson. The Hurricanes pulled ahead in the third period with a Sebastian Aho goal, his fourth of the season, courtesy of Seth Jarvis and Teuvo Teravainen. Carolina added on with a Jesper Fast goal, via Jordan Staal and Brady Skjei. NHL 2022-23 - Day 14

Five games on for this Sunday. First up...

The Chicago Blackhawks host the Seattle Kraken. Martin Jones and Alex Stalock are the backups in goal. Seattle opened in the first period with a Jared McCann goal, his third of the season, coming off of Morgan Geekie and Karson Kuhlman. The Kraken added on with an Andre Burakovsky goal, his third of the year, via Jordan Eberle. Chicago got on the board with a shorthanded Jujhar Khaira goal, set up by Colin Blackwell. The Blackhawks tied it on a Tyler Johnson power play goal, powered by Seth Jones and Patrick Kane. Chicago took the lead in the second period with a Max Domi power play goal, his third of the season, with assists provided by Jones and Kane. Seattle retied it on a Matty Beniers goal, his second of the year, passed from Jaden Schwartz and Carson Soucy. The Kraken pulled ahead with a Vince Dunn goal, guided in by McCann. The Blackhawks retied it on a Johnson goal, his second of the game, with helpers from Jonathan Toews and Taylor Raddysh. Chicago pulled ahead with a Jason Dickinson goal, his second of the season, going in unassisted. The final was 5-4, and the three stars were Johnson, McCann, and Jones, while Kane gets an honorable mention.

Detroit added on in the second period with a Joe Veleno goal, passed from Adam Erne and Pius Suter. The Red Wings extended the lead in the third period as Kubalik scored his third of the year on the power play, thanks to Oskar Sundqvist and Larkin. Detroit finished it at 5-1 with an Elmer Soderblom goal, his second of the campaign, helped along by Michael Rasmussen. The three stars were Kubalik, Larkin, and Husso (32 for 33 in saves). 

Finally, the Philadelphia Flyers host the San Jose Sharks. James Reimer and Felix Sandstrom are in the blue paint. NHL 2022-23 - Day 13

A lucky 13 games on today, including four matinees. First up...

Minnesota led off in the first period with a Brandon Duhaime shorthanded goal, set up by Jared Spurgeon and Connor Dewar. Boston tied it on a Nick Foligno goal, his third of the season, assisted by Taylor Hall and Pavel Zacha. The Bruins took the lead with a David Pastrnak goal, his fourth of the year, coming off of Hall and David Krejci. Boston added on in the second period with a Hampus Lindholm goal, his second of the season, guided in by Matt Grzelcyk and Craig Smith. The Wild got one back with a Matt Boldy power play goal, his third of the year, powered by Mats Zuccarello and Marcus Foligno. Minnesota tied it in the third period with a Spurgeon goal, helped along by Zuccarello and Jonas Brodin. The Bruins won 4-3 in overtime with a Hall power play goal, his third of the campaign, with assists provided by Krejci and Pastrnak. The three stars were Hall, Spurgeon, and Pastrnak, while Krejci and Zuccarello get the honorable mentions. 

Along to New Jersey, as the Devils welcome the San Jose Sharks. Kaapo Kahkonen and MacKenzie Blackwood man the nets. New Jersey got going in the second period with a Yegor Sharangovich goal, going in unassisted. The Devils added on with a Dawson Mercer power play goal, his second of the campaign, powered by Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt. San Jose got on the board with a Kevin Labanc goal, via Scott Harrington and Oskar Lindblom. This only made it 2-1, the eventual final, with the three stars being Blackwood (21 for 22 in saves), Mercer, and Sharangovich.

Dallas added on with a Robertson power play goal, his second of the season, with assists provided by Benn and Pavelski. The Canadiens got one back with a Xhekaj goal, helped along by Sean Monahan and Nick Suzuki. The Stars responded with an Esa Lindell goal, guided in by Ty Dellandrea. Dallas extended the lead as Pavelski finished his hat trick in the third period with his fourth goal of the year, with helpers from Hintz and Nils Lundkvist. This stood for a 5-2 win, with the three stars being Pavelski, Robertson, and Xhekaj while Hintz and Benn get the honorable mentions.

Way down south, the Tampa Bay Lightning bring in the New York Islanders. Ilya Sorokin and Brian Elliott are in goal. Tampa Bay struck first in the first period with a Brayden Point goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Nikita Kucherov and Brandon Hagel. New York tied it on an unassisted Matt Martin goal. The Lightning retook the lead with a Hagel goal, via Point and Victor Hedman. Tampa Bay added on in the second period with a Corey Perry goal, his second of the year, courtesy of Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Pat Maroon. The Islanders pulled one back with an Anthony Beauvillier goal, his second of the season, assisted by Brock Nelson. The Lightning fired back with a Nick Paul goal, with a lone assist by Ross Colton. New York got one back in the third period with a Ryan Pulock goal, going in unassisted. Tampa Bay finished it at 5-3 with an Alex Killorn goal, made possible by Paul and Mikhail Sergachev. The three stars were Point, Hagel, and Paul.

Back north, the Washington Capitals host the Los Angeles Kings. Jonathan Quick and Darcy Kuemper guard the cages. Los Angeles dented the scoreboard in the second period with a Sean Durzi goal, passed from Viktor Arvidsson. The Kings added on with a Phillip Danault goal, his third of the season, coming off of Arvidsson and Trevor Moore. Washington got on the board in the third period with a Nic Dowd goal, his second of the year, courtesy of Nick Jensen. The Capitals tied it with a John Carlson goal, his second of the season, guided in by Evgeny Kuznetsov and Dmitry Orlov. Washington took the lead with a Lars Eller goal, his second of the year, via Orlov and Carlson. Los Angeles retied it on an Arvidsson goal, with a lone assist by Moore. The Capitals regained the lead with a Marcus Johansson goal, his second of the campaign, assisted by Orlov and T.J. Oshie. The three stars of the 4-3 game were Arvidsson, Orlov, and Carlson, while Moore gets an honorable mention.

In Canada again, the Winnipeg Jets welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ilya Samsonov and Connor Hellebuyck are between the pipes. Winnipeg kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Pierre-Luc Dubois goal, his second of the season, made possible by Cole Perfetti and Blake Wheeler. Toronto tied it on a John Tavares power play goal, his second of the year, powered by William Nylander and Auston Matthews. The Maple Leafs pulled ahead in the second period with a David Kampf goal, his second of the season, courtesy of Wayne Simmonds and Kyle Clifford. Toronto added on with a Tavares power play goal, his second of the game and third of the year, with assists provided by Matthews and Rasmus Sandin. The Maple Leafs iced it at 4-1 in the third period with a Michael Bunting empty net goal, his second of the campaign, set up by Mitchell Marner and Matthews. The three stars belonged to Tavares, Matthews, and Samsonov (30 for 31 in saves).

Stateside, the Columbus Blue Jackets bring in the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tristan Jarry and Elvis Merzlikins are in the blue paint. Columbus drew first blood in the first period with a Boone Jenner goal, guided in by Johnny Gaudreau. The Blue Jackets added on with a Jack Roslovic shorthanded goal, going in unassisted. Pittsburgh got on the board in the second period with a Josh Archibald goal, made possible by Ryan Poehling. Columbus answered with a Kent Johnson goal, via Roslovic. The Penguins got one back with a Jan Rutta goal, his second of the season, helped along by Kasperi Kapanen. Pittsburgh tied it on a Danton Heinen goal, his second of the year, coming off of Sidney Crosby and Marcus Pettersson. The Penguins took the lead in the third period with a Crosby goal, his third of the season, guided in by Brian Dumoulin. Pittsburgh extended the lead as Heinen scored his second of the game and third of the year, with the help of Pierre-Olivier Joseph and Crosby. The Penguins padded the lead on a Brock McGinn goal, fueled by Kapanen and Rutta. This made it 6-3, the final, with the three stars going to Heinen, Crosby, and Rutta, while Roslovic and Kapanen get the honorable mentions.

Down in Nashville, the Predators host the Philadelphia Flyers. Carter Hart and Juuse Saros patrol the creases. Philadelphia was first to score in the first period with a Kevin Hayes goal, fueled by Joel Farabee. The Flyers added on with a Zack MacEwen goal, via Egor Zamula and Farabee. Philadelphia extended the lead in the third period as Farabee scored, thanks to Hayes and Ivan Provorov. Nashville got on the board with a Matt Duchene power play goal, his second of the campaign, powered by Filip Forsberg and Mikael Granlund. This only made it 3-1, the final, with the three stars going to Farabee, Hayes, and Hart (31 for 32 in saves). 

Out west, the Vegas Golden Knights welcome the Colorado Avalanche. Alexandar Georgiev and Logan Thompson tend the twines. Colorado cracked the scoresheet in the first period with a Nathan MacKinnon power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Cale Makar and Arturri Lehkonen. Vegas tied it on a Jonathan Marchessault power play goal, his fifth of the year, with assists provided by Mark Stone and Jack Eichel. The Avalanche retook the lead in the second period with an Evan Rodrigues power play goal, his second of the season, made possible by Samuel Girard and Bowen Byram. Colorado added on in the third period with a Valeri Nichushkin goal, his sixth of the year, via Erik Johnson. The Golden Knights got one back with a Chandler Stephenson goal, his second of the season, courtesy of Stone and Eichel. This only made it 3-2, the final, with the three stars going to Stone, Eichel, and Nichushkin.

Up in Calgary, the Flames bring in the Carolina Hurricanes. Antti Raanta and Jacob Markstrom receive the starting nods in goal. Carolina led off in the first period with a Sebastian Aho goal, his third of the season, via Teuvo Teravainen. The Hurricanes added on with a Calvin de Haan goal, guided in by Paul Stastny and Stefan Noesen. Calgary got on the board with a Nazem Kadri power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Tyler Toffoli and Rasmus Andersson. The Flames tied it in the second period with a Brett Ritchie goal, his second of the season, going in unassisted. Calgary won 3-2 in overtime with a Toffoli goal, his third of the year, helped along by Andersson. The three stars were Toffoli, Andersson, and Markstrom (25 for 27 in saves).

Finally, the Vancouver Canucks host the Buffalo Sabres. Craig Anderson and Thatcher Demko start in goal. Buffalo began in the first period with a Rasmus Dahlin power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by Casey Mittelstadt and Tage Thompson. The Sabres added on with an Alex Tuch goal, his sixth of the year, via Jeff Skinner. Vancouver got on the board in the second period with a Conor Garland power play goal, his second of the season, with assists provided by Tanner Pearson and Ilya Mikheyev. Buffalo replied in the third period with a Victor Olofsson goal, his third of the year, passed from Mittelstadt. The Sabres extended the lead as Zemgus Girgensons scored his second of the season into an empty net, thanks to Oloffson. Buffalo capped it at 5-1 with an Olofsson goal, his second of the game and fourth of the year, set up by Dahlin and Rasmus Asplund. The three stars went to Olofsson, Dahlin, and Mittelstadt.

NHL 2022-23 - Day 12

Three games on for Friday night, beginning with...

The Florida Panthers hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy and Sergei Bobrovsky guard the cages. Tampa Bay led off in the first period with a Steven Stamkos power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by Nikita Kucherov and Victor Hedman. Florida tied it on a Matthew Tkachuk goal, his third of the year, guided in by Brandon Montour and Gustav Forsling. The Panthers took the lead in the second period with a Rudolfs Balcers goal, his second of the season, made possible by Tkachuk and Montour. The Lightning tied it in the third period with a Brayden Point goal, his second of the year, via Kucherov and Mikhail Sergachev. Tampa Bay won 3-2 in overtime with a Point goal, his second of the game and third of the campaign coming on the power play with assists provided by Stamkos and Corey Perry. The three stars were Point, Stamkos, and Tkachuk, while Kucherov and Montour get the honorable mentions. 

Up in Chicago, the Blackhawks welcome the Detroit Red Wings. Alex Nedeljkovic and Petr Mrazek make the starts in goal. Detroit began in the first period with a Pius Suter goal, made possible by Robert Hagg and Gustav Lindstrom. The Red Wings added on with a Dylan Larkin power play goal, his second of the season, powered by Dominik Kubalik and Filip Hronek. Chicago got on the board in the second period with an Andreas Athanasiou penalty shot goal. Detroit replied with a Kubalik goal, his second of the year, helped along by Olli Maatta. Alex Stalock replaced Mrazek in goal. The Blackhawks got one back in the third period with a Philipp Kurashev goal, assisted by Sam Lafferty and Jack Johnson. Chicago tied it on a Connor Murphy shorthanded goal, set up by Lafferty. The Blackhawks won 4-3 in overtime with a Max Domi goal, his second of the campaign, going in unassisted. The three stars were Domi, Lafferty, and Kubalik. 

Finally, the Colorado Avalanche bring in the Seattle Kraken. Philipp Grubauer and Pavel Francouz are set to start in goal. Seattle got going in the second period with a Jaden Schwartz power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Jordan Eberle and Jared McCann. The Kraken added on with a McCann goal, his second of the year, courtesy of Carson Soucy. Colorado got on the board with an Evan Rodrigues goal, fueled by Valeri Nichushkin and Bowen Byram. The Avalanche tied it in the third period with a shorthanded Byram goal, his second of the season, set up by Nichushkin and Logan O'Connor. Seattle retook the lead with a Karson Kuhlman goal, assisted by Schwartz and Jamie Oleksiak. This held for a 3-2 win, with the three stars going to Schwartz, McCann, and Byram, while Nichushkin gets an honorable mention.

NHL 2022-23 - Day 11

There's 12 games on for today's schedule, beginning with...

The Boston Bruins hosting the Anaheim Ducks. John Gibson and Linus Ullmark man the nets. Boston got going in the second period with a Taylor Hall goal, his second of the season, assisted by Hampus Lindholm and Matt Grzelcyk. Anaheim tied it on a Frank Vatrano goal, his third of the year, via Mason McTavish and Ryan Strome. The tie went to a shootout, where Hall had the lone tally to give the Bruins a 2-1 win. The three stars were Hall, Ullmark (30 for 31 in saves), and Gibson (35 for 36 in saves).

Along to Toronto, as the Maple Leafs welcome the Dallas Stars. Scott Wedgewood and Ilya Samsonov make the starts in goal. Dallas kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Luke Glendening goal, coming off of Nils Lundkvist and Joel Kiviranta. Toronto tied it on an Alexander Kerfoot power play goal in the second period, powered by Michael Bunting and Rasmus Sandin. The Maple Leafs took the lead in the third period with a Nicholas Robertson goal, via Bunting and William Nylander. The Stars tied it on a Tyler Seguin power play goal, his second of the season, with assists provided by Mason Marchment and Wyatt Johnston. Toronto won 3-2 in overtime with a Robertson goal, his second of the game, made possible by Auston Matthews and Morgan Rielly. . The three stars were Robertson, Bunting, and Kerfoot.

Staying in Canada, the Montreal Canadiens bring in the Arizona Coyotes. Connor Ingram and Jake Allen are in the blue paint. Montreal led off in the first period with a Josh Anderson goal, his second of the season, via Jonathan Drouin and Kirby Dach. The Canadiens added on with a Cole Caufield goal, his fourth of the year, going in unassisted. Montreal extended the lead as Brendan Gallagher scored, thanks to David Savard. The Canadiens padded the lead in the second period on a Juraj Slafkovsky unassisted goal. Montreal continued with a Nick Suzuki penalty shot goal, his third of the season. Arizona got on the board in the third period with a J.J. Moser goal, helped along by Travis Boyd and Lawson Crouse. The Coyotes got closer with a Boyd goal, with helpers from Crouse and Clayton Keller. The Canadiens iced it at 6-2 with a Sean Monahan empty net goal, his second of the year, going in unassisted. The three stars were Boyd, Crouse, and Slafkovsky.

Back to Ontario, as the Senators host the Washington Capitals. Darcy Kuemper and Anton Forsberg are between the pipes. Washington struck first in the first period with a T.J. Ottawa gained the lead in the third period with a Shane Pinto goal, his third of the season, made possible by Tyler Motte and Mathieu Joseph. The Penguins padded the lead in the second period on a Petry power play goal, coming off of Danton Heinen. Pittsburgh continued with a Jeff Carter goal in the third period, his second of the season, courtesy of Kasperi Kapanen and Petry. The Penguins struck again with a Ryan Poehling shorthanded goal, going in unassisted.
