NHL 2023-24 - Day 100

We're on for six games again this Monday. First up...

The Boston Bruins host the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck and Jeremy Swayman tend the twines. Boston led off in the first period with a Jakub Lauko goal, his second of the season, via Trent Frederic and Morgan Geekie. Winnipeg tied it on a Vladislav Namestnikov goal, his sixth of the year, guided in by Dylan DeMelo and Nikolaj Ehlers. The Bruins retook the lead with a Charlie Coyle goal, his seventeenth of the season, made possible by Hampus Lindholm and Brandon Carlo. Boston added on in the third period with a Jake DeBrusk shorthanded goal, his twelfth of the year, going in unassisted. The Bruins iced it at 4-1 with a Brad Marchand empty net goal, his twenty-first of the campaign, set up by Coyle and David Pastrnak. The three stars were Coyle, Swayman (20 for 21 in saves), and DeBrusk.

Down in New Jersey, the Devils welcome the Vegas Golden Knights. Logan Thompson and Vitek Vanecek man the nets. Vegas began in the first period with a Pavel Dorofeyev goal, his seventh of the season, passed from Chandler Stephenson and Mark Stone. New Jersey tied it on a Nico Hischier goal, his thirteenth of the year, coming off of Timo Meier and Jesper Bratt. The Devils took the lead with a Curtis Lazar goal, his fifth of the season, assisted by Erik Haula and Nathan Bastian. New Jersey added on in the second period with a Tyler Toffoli goal, his eighteenth of the year, guided in by Simon Nemec and Kevin Bahl. The Golden Knights got one back with a Jonathan Marchessault goal, his twenty-first of the season, made possible by Nicolas Roy and Kaedan Korczak. Vegas tied it on a Marchessault goal, his second of the game and twenty-second of the year, fueled by Ivan Barbashev and Roy. Vegas pulled ahead on a Stephenson goal, his eighth of the season, courtesy of Stone and Alec Martinez. The Golden Knights extended the lead as Roy scored his eighth of the year, thanks to Marchessault. The Devils answered with a Toffoli goal, his second of the game and nineteenth of the season, with a lone helper by Dawson Mercer. New Jersey tied it in the third period with a Lazar goal, his second of the game and sixth of the year, helped along by Nemec and Bastian. The Devils won 6-5 in overtime with a Toffoli goal, completing his hat trick on his twentieth of the campaign, with the help of Luke Hughes. The three stars were Toffoli, Lazar, and Marchessault, while Roy, Bastian, Nemec, Stephenson, and Stone get the honorable mentions.

Along to Nashville, as the Predators bring in the Florida Panthers. Anthony Stolarz and Juuse Saros are in the creases. Florida got going in the second period with a Sam Reinhart power play goal, his thirty-fourth of the season, powered by Sam Bennett. Nashville tied it on a Jeremy Lauzon goal, his fifth of the year, coming off of Colton Sissons. The Panthers took the lead back with a Carter Verhaeghe goal in the third period, his twenty-fourth of the season, made possible by Bennett. Florida added on with a Brandon Montour empty net goal, his second of the year, set up by Matthew Tkachuk and Bennett. The Panthers extended the lead as Tkachuk scored his thirteenth of the campaign into an empty net, with a lone assist by Verhaeghe. The three stars were given to Bennett, Verhaeghe, and Tkachuk.

Further west, the Arizona Coyotes host the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tristan Jarry and Connor Ingram are the masked men. Arizona opened in the first period with a Jason Zucker goal, his seventh of the season, via Logan Cooley and Josh Brown. Pittsburgh tied it on a Lars Eller goal in the second period, his eighth of the year, coming off of Pierre-Olivier Joseph. The Coyotes retook the lead with a Juuso Valimaki goal, courtesy of Clayton Keller and Matias Maccelli. The Penguins tied it again with a Sidney Crosby goal, his twenty-seventh of the season, assisted by Erik Karlsson and Evgeni Malkin. Arizona pulled ahead on an Alexander Kerfoot goal, his seventh of the year, made possible by Zucker. The Coyotes added on with a power play empty net goal by Lawson Crouse in the third period, his eighteenth of the season, going in unassisted. Arizona extended the lead as Nick Bjugstad scored his tenth of the year, thanks to Liam O'Brien and Jack McBain. The final held at 5-2, with the three stars going to Zucker, Kerfoot, and Bjugstad.

Northwest to Vancouver, as the Canucks welcome the Chicago Blackhawks. Petr Mrazek and Thatcher Demko are the goalies. Vancouver started in the first period with a Pius Suter goal, his ninth of the season, via Andrei Kuzmenko and Noah Juulsen. The Canucks added on with a Quinn Hughes goal, his twelfth of the year, passed from Ilya Mikheyev and Kuzmenko. The final held at 2-0, with the three stars being Demko (31 save shutout), Kuzmenko, and Suter.

Finally, the Los Angeles Kings bring in the San Jose Sharks. Kaapo Kahkonen and David Rittich are the backups in goal. San Jose dented the scoreboard in the second period with a Fabian Zetterlund goal, his fourteenth of the season, via Mike Hoffman and Tomas Hertl. The Sharks added on with a William Eklund goal, his eighth of the year, courtesy of Nico Sturm and Jan Rutta. Los Angeles got on the board with a Trevor Moore goal, his twenty-first of the season, passed from Kevin Fiala. The Kings tied it in the third period with a Quinton Byfield goal, his fourteenth of the year, coming off of Adrian Kempe and Jordan Spence. San Jose retook the lead with a Justin Bailey goal, his third of the season, assisted by Ryan Carpenter. Los Angeles tied it on a Drew Doughty power play goal, his eleventh of the year, powered by Fiala and Byfield. The tie went to a shootout, where Logan Couture and Zetterlund scored to give the Sharks a 4-3 win. The three stars were Zetterlund, Byfield, and Fiala.

The Philadelphia Flyers hosting the Ottawa Senators. Mads Sogaard and Samuel Ersson handle the goaltending duties. Philadelphia started in the first period with an Egor Zamula power play goal, his fourth of the season, powered by Joel Farabee and Cam York. The Flyers added on with another Zamula goal, his second of the game and fifth of the year, guided in by Farabee and Cam Atkinson. Ottawa got on the board in the second period with a Zack MacEwen goal, his second of the season, going in unassisted. Philadelphia shot back with a Farabee power play goal, his seventeenth of the year, with assists provided by Zamula and Travis Konecny. The Senators got one back with a Tim Stutzle goal, his ninth of the season, made possible by Shane Pinto and Thomas Chabot. The Red Wings took the lead with a Daniel Sprong goal in the second period, his twelfth of the season, coming off of J.T. Compher. The final held from here at 2-1, with the three stars being Sprong, Raymond, and Lyon (27 for 28 in saves).

East to New York, as the Islanders host the Dallas Stars. Scott Wedgewood and Ilya Sorokin patrol the creases. The Islanders retied it in the third period with a Hudson Fasching goal, his third of the year, passed from Dobson and Brock Nelson. The Buffalo Sabres hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning. Jonas Johansson and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen are in goal. Tampa Bay led off in the first period with a Nick Paul goal, his twelfth of the season, via Brandon Hagel and Anthony Cirelli. The Lightning added on with a shorthanded and unassisted Tyler Motte goal, his fourth of the year. Buffalo got on the board in the second period with a Dylan Cozens goal, his eighth of the season, assisted by JJ Peterka and Rasmus Dahlin. Tampa Bay iced it at 3-1 in the third period with a Calvin de Haan empty net goal, his third of the year, set up by Hagel and Paul. The three stars were Johansson (26 for 27 in saves), Paul, and Hagel.

Northwest to Calgary as the Flames bring in the Edmonton Oilers. Stuart Skinner faces a lesser foe in Dan Vladar in goal. Edmonton drew first blood in the first period with a Ryan McLeod goal, his ninth of the season, via Warren Foegele and Vincent Desharnais. Calgary tied it in the second period with a MacKenzie Weegar goal, his tenth of the year, made possible by Blake Coleman. The Oilers took the lead back with a Sam Gagner goal, his fifth of the season, passed from Dylan Holloway and Cody Ceci in the third period. Edmonton iced it at 3-1 with a Zach Hyman empty net goal, his twenty-eighth of the year, set up by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The three stars were Skinner (26 for 27 in saves), Gagner, and McLeod.

The Carolina Hurricanes hosting the Detroit Red Wings. Alex Lyon and Antti Raanta make the starts in goal. Detroit opened in the first period with a Klim Kostin goal, his third of the season, assisted by Joe Veleno and Daniel Sprong. Carolina tied it on a Jordan Martinook goal, his sixth of the year, via Brent Burns and Jordan Staal. The Hurricanes took the lead in the second period with a Martin Necas goal, his tenth of the season, fueled by Michael Bunting and Dmitry Orlov. The Red Wings retied it with a J.T. Compher power play goal, his tenth of the year, powered by Dylan Larkin and Shayne Gostisbehere. The Wild retook the lead with a Ryan Hartman power play goal, his fourteenth of the season, with assists provided by Alex Goligoski and Pat Maroon. Back north, the Columbus Blue Jackets bring in the New Jersey Devils. Vitek Vanecek and Elvis Merzlikins patrol the creases. Columbus led off in the first period with a Cole Sillinger goal, his eighth of the season, via Yegor Chinakhov and Johnny Gaudreau. New Jersey tied it in the second period with a John Marino goal, his third of the year, coming off of Simon Nemec. The Devils took the lead with an Alexander Holtz goal, his twelfth of the season, passed from Cal Foote and Max Willman. New Jersey added on with a Nico Hischier goal, his twelfth of the year, going in unassisted. The Devils extended the lead as Nathan Bastian scored his third of the campaign, thanks to Kevin Bahl. This held for a 4-1 win, with the three stars being Vanecek (29 for 30 in saves), Holtz, and Hischier. 

Finally, the Chicago Blackhawks host the New York Islanders. Ilya Sorokin and Petr Mrazek are between the pipes. New York began in the first period with a Brock Nelson goal, his twentieth of the season, assisted by Hudson Fasching and Kyle Palmieri. Chicago tied it in the second period with a Boris Katchouk goal, his fifth of the year, via Zach Sanford and Reese Johnson. Colorado got on the board with a Miles Wood goal, his eighth of the year, guided in by Devon Toews and Sam Malinski. The New Jersey Devils welcoming the Montreal Canadiens. Sam Montembeault and Nico Daws are the goalies. Montreal began in the first period with a Juraj Slafkovsky goal, his sixth of the season, made possible by Cole Caufield. The Canadiens added on in the second period with a Joshua Roy goal, via Sean Monahan and Joel Armia. New Jersey got on the board in the third period with a Luke Hughes power play goal, his eighth of the year, powered by Nico Hischier and Timo Meier. The Devils tied it on an Alexander Holtz power play goal, his eleventh of the season, with assists provided by Simon Nemec and Dawson Mercer. Montreal retook the lead with a Caufield goal, his fourteenth of the year, passed from Monahan and Jordan Harris. The New York Rangers host the Seattle Kraken. Chris Driedger is mismatched with Igor Shesterkin in goal. New York led off in the first period with a Vincent Trocheck power play goal, his fourteenth of the season, powered by Artemi Panarin and Adam Fox. Seattle tied it on a Jordan Eberle power play goal, his sixth of the year, with assists provided by Jared McCann and Oliver Bjorkstrand. The Rangers retook the lead with an unassisted Erik Gustafsson goal, his fourth of the season. New York added on in the second period with a Blake Wheeler goal, his sixth of the year, coming off of Jonny Brodzinski and Braden Schneider. The Rangers extended the lead as Kaapo Kakko scored his third of the season, thanks to Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider. The Kraken got one back in the third period with a McCann power play goal, his seventeenth of the year, helped along by Eberle and Justin Schultz.
