MLS October 8, 2016 - Houston Dynamo v. Colorado Rapids

This is the lone game for this week of MLS action. Tim Howard of Colorado and Joe Willis of Houston play goal. Colorado struck first in the twelfth minute on a Dominique Badji goal, via Dillon Powers and Sebastien Le Toux. Houston tied it on a forty-fifth minute goal by Mauro Manotas, coming off of Sheanon Williams and Ricardo Clark. The Rapids retook the lead with a fifty-fourth minute Badji goal, assisted by Powers. Colorado added on with a Shkelzen Gashi goal in the seventy-ninth minute, courtesy of Micheal Azira. The Dynamo pulled back on another Manotas goal in the eighty-first minute. The Rapids had yellow cards for time wasting in the eighty-third minute by Sam Cronin and a foul from Azira in stoppage time. Houston's Alex took a yellow card for dissent a minute after Azira's booking. The game ended 3-2, with Badji the man of the match for his brace.

KHL 2016/17 - Day 47

Eight games for today. We begin with...

Amur Khabarovsk hosting the Sochi Leopards. Konstantin Barulin and Juha Metsola are in goal. Sochi started in the first period with an Ivan Yatsenko goal, via Denis Tolpeko and Alexander Delnov. Khabarovsk tied it on a Kristian Kuusela power play goal, powered by Maxim Kondratyev and Tomas Zohorna. The Leopards took the lead back in the third period on another Yatsenko goal, assisted by Vadim Shchegolkov and Tolpeko. Amur tied it again with a Jan Kolar power play goal, coming off of Teemu Ramstedt and Kirill Kapustin. Khabarovsk took the lead with a Vladislav Ushenin goal, made possible by Vyacheslav Ushenin. This stood for a 3-2 win, with the three stars given to Vladislav Ushenin, Yatsenko, and Tolpeko.

Down in Vladivostok, Admiral welcomes Spartak Moscow. Markus Svensson and Igor Bobkov are set to start in goal. Vladivostok opened with a first period power play goal by Mikhail Fisenko, powered by Vladimir Tkachyov and Robert Sabolic. Admiral added on with a James Wright goal, with a lone assist by Vadim Krasnoslobodtsev. Vladivostok extended the lead on an unassisted Oskars Bartulis goal in the second period. Admiral padded the lead as Dmitry Lugin scored, thanks to Alexander Gorshkov and Artyom Zemchyonok. Moscow got on the board with a Mikhail Plotnikov goal, passed from Ryan Stoa. Spartak got closer in the third period with a Matthew Gilroy power play goal, with assists provided by Vadim Berdnikov and Marcus Hogstrom. Vladivostok answered with a Tkachyov power play goal, going in unassisted. Admiral continued with a Lugin power play goal, his second of the game, helped along by Fisenko and Sabolic. Moscow got one back with a Lukas Radil goal, via Gilroy and Stoa. The game ended at 6-3, with the three stars handed to Lugin, Tkachyov, and Fisenko, while Sabolic, Gilroy, and Stoa get the honorable mentions.

Into China, with Kunlun Red Star Beijing hosting Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in Shanghai. Ilya Proskuryakov and Andrei Makarov are the masked men. Nizhny Novgorod extended the lead in the second period as Sam Lofquist scored, thanks to Daugavins and Semin. Beijing got on the board with a Damien Fleury goal, assisted by Linus Videll and Tobias Viklund on the power play. Kunlun Red Star pulled closer with a Brett Bellemore power play goal, powered by Sean Collins and Fleury. Torpedo answered in the third period on a Daugavins goal, helped along by Semin and Lofquist. This produced the 4-2 final, with the three stars belonging to Daugavins, Lofquist, and Semin (sock trick), while Fleury gets an honorable mention.

Back in Russia, Sibir Novosibirsk brings in Metallurg Novokuznetsk. Andrei Kareyev and Alexander Salak are given the starting nods in goal. Novosibirsk led off in the first period with an Alexei Skabelka goal, courtesy of Artyom Artyomov and Yury Sergiyenko. Novokuznetsk tied it on an Alexander Komaristy goal, coming off of Ignat Zemchenko and Stanislav Butuzov. Metallurg took the lead in the second period with a Denis Vikharev goal, going in unassisted. Sibir tied it again on an Adam Polasek power play goal in the third period, powered by Oleg Gubin and Sergei Shumakov. Novosibirsk took the 3-2 win with a Shumakov goal in overtime, set up by Konstantin Okulov. The three stars were Shumakov, Polasek, and Skabelka.

Westward to Ufa, where Salavat Yulaev hosts Traktor Chelyabinsk. Vasily Demchenko and Andrei Gavrilov are in the blue paint. Ufa began in the first period with a Teemu Hartikainen goal, assisted by Linus Omark. Chelyabinsk tied it on a Paul Szczechura goal, coming off of Michal Birner and Dmitry Pestunov in the second period. Salavat Yulaev retook the lead on a Hartikainen goal, with a lone assist by Sami Lepisto. The game ended at 2-1 eventually, with Hartikainen, Gavrilov (36 for 37 in saves), and Szczechura receiving the three stars.

Out in St. Petersburg, SKA welcomes Jokerit Helsinki. Ryan Zapolski and Igor Shestyorkin are between the pipes. St. Petersburg was first to score with an Ilya Kablukov goal in the first period, made possible by Yegor Rykov and Evgeny Ketov. SKA added on with an Evgeny Dadonov goal, guided in by Nikita Gusev and Maxim Chudinov. St. Petersburg extended the lead in the second period as Viktor Tikhonov scored, thanks to Roman Rukavishnikov. SKA padded the lead on a Vyacheslav Voynov goal, fueled by Alexander Barabanov and Jarno Koskiranta. St. Petersburg kept going in the third period on a Sergei Plotnikov goal, passed from Andrei Zubarev and Ilya Kovalchuk. SKA iced it at 6-0 with a Dadonov goal, his second of the game, assisted by Gusev and Dinar Khafizullin. The three stars belonged to Dadonov, Shestyorkin (20 save shutout), and Gusev.

Further along to Belarus, where Dinamo Minsk hosts Dynamo Moscow. Alexander Yeryomenko and Ben Scrivens tend the twines. Minsk started in the first period with an Alexander Materukhin goal, assisted by Kristian Khenkel and Lukas Krajicek. Dinamo added on with an unassisted Andrei Stepanov goal. This stood for a 2-0 win, with the three stars awarded to Scrivens (23 save shutout), Materukhin, and Stepanov.

Finally, Medvescak Zagreb brings in Severstal Cherepovets. Jakub Kovar faces a lesser foe in Niko Hovinen in goal. Cherepovets opened in the first period with a Daniil Vovchenko goal, coming off of Maxim Trunyov. Zagreb tied it on a Tomas Mertl goal, passed from Colby Genoway. Medvescak took the lead on an unassisted Francis Pare goal. Zagreb added on in the second period with a Genoway goal, via Mark Katic and Bobby Butler on the power play. Severstal got one back with another Vovchenko goal made possible by Trunyov. Medvescak replied with a Mertl power play goal, powered by Alexandre Giroux and Genoway. Roman Smiryagin replaced Kovar in goal. Zagreb extended the lead on a Brandon McMillan goal, going in unassisted. Medvescak padded the lead as Katic scored, thanks to Butler and Yann Sauve. Zagreb continued in the third period with Mertl completing his hat trick on a power play goal helped along by Butler and Katic. Cherepovets countered with a Vojtech Polak goal, with a lone helper from Dmitry Kagarlitsky. The three stars of the 7-3 game were Mertl, Genoway, and Katic, while Vovchenko, Trunyov, and Butler get the honorable mentions.

KHL 2016/17 - Day 46

Once again, it's a day with three games, beginning in...

Yekaterinburg, with Avtomobilist hosting Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk. Ville Kolppanen and Vladimir Sokhatsky are in the creases. Yekaterinburg led off in the first period with an Artyom Gareyev goal, via Alexander Torchenyuk and Dmitry Monya. Nizhnekamsk tied it on a Geoffrey Kinrade goal, guided in by Andrei Stas and Andrei Sergeyev. Avtomobilist took the lead back with a Niclas Andersen goal, fueled by Jan Buchtele. Yekaterinburg added on with an Alexander Shchemerov goal, with a lone assist by Anatoly Golyshev. Neftekhimik got one back in the third period on a Stas goal, made possible by Alexander Bryntsev. The game ended 3-2, with the three stars being Shchemerov, Stas, and Andersen.

Next up, Barys Astana welcomes Lada Togliatti. Ilya Ezhov and Henrik Karlsson are the goalies. Togliatti began in the first period with a Nikita Filatov goal, assisted by Alexander Bumagin. Kazan got on the board with a Fyodor Malykhin goal, passed from Mikhail Zhukov and Anton Glinkin. Nine games fill the schedule today. We begin with...

Amur Khabarovsk hosting Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod. Ilya Proskuryakov and Juha Metsola are in goal. Nizhny Novgorod got going in the second period with a Dmitry Shulenin goal, via Kirill Rasskazov and Denis Shurakov. This stood for a 1-0 win, with the three stars going to Shulenin, Proskuryakov (25 save shutout), and Metsola (27 for 28 in saves).

Down in Vladivostok, Admiral welcomes the Sochi Leopards. Konstantin Barulin and Igor Bobkov man the nets. Vladivostok opened in the first period with a Robert Sabolic power play goal, powered by Jonathon Blum. Into China, where Kunlun Red Star Beijing brings in Spartak Moscow to Shanghai. Nikita Bespalov and Andrei Makarov are in the blue paint. Moscow tied it on a second period Anatoly Nikontsev goal, fueled by Artyom Voronin and Nikita Li. Spartak took the lead with a Ryan Stoa goal, guided in by Lukas Radil and Matthew Gilroy. Kunlun Red Star tied it with a Tobias Viklund power play goal in the third period, made possible by Linus Videll. Beijing took the lead with a Jarvinen goal, with assists provided by Warn and Miika Lahti. Kunlun Red Star added on with an unassisted Damien Fleury. This made it 4-2, the final, with the three stars went to Jarvinen, Warn, and Fleury.

Back in Russia, Avangard Omsk hosts Sibir Novosibirsk. Alexander Salak and Dominik Furch tend the twines. Novosibirsk led off in the first period with a Sergei Shumakov goal, passed from Adam Polasek. Omsk tied it on an Evgeny Medvedev goal, helped along by Valentin Pyanov and Maxim Pestushko. The tie went all the way to a shootout, where Sibir's Konstantin Okulov was topped by Ilya Zubov and Nikolai Lemtyugov for a 2-1 Avangard win. The three stars went to Furch (18 for 19 in saves), Salak (23 for 24 in saves), and Medvedev.

Along to Magnitogorsk, with Metallurg welcoming Traktor Chelyabinsk. Vasily Demchenko faces a lesser foe in Ilya Samsonov in goal. Chelyabinsk struck first in the first period with a power play goal by Alexei Petrov, powered by Alexander Shinin and Paul Szczechura. Traktor added on with a shorthanded and unassisted goal from Szczechura. Magnitogorsk got on the board in the second period with a Dmitry Kazionov goal, assisted by Sergei Tereshchenko and Oskar Osala. Metallurg tied it on a Sergei Mozyakin power play goal, with helpers from Chris Lee and Alexander Semin. Magnitogorsk took the lead in the third period on a Jan Kovar goal, made possible by Semin and Alexei Bereglazov. Chelyabinsk retied it as Kirill Koltsov scored, thanks to Nikolai Belov. Minsk tied it in the second period on a Rob Klinkhammer power play goal, powered by Evgeny Lisovets and Matt Ellison. Vityaz took the lead on another Aaltonen power play goal, coming off of Ilya Davydov and Jakub Jerabek. Dinamo retied it with a Marc-Andre Gragnani power play goal in the third period, helped along by Sergei Kostitsyn and David Ullstrom. Podolsk won 3-2 in overtime on an unassisted goal by Igor Golovkov. The three stars were handed to Aaltonen, Golovkov, and Sateri (22 for 24 in saves).

Into Slovakia, with Slovan Bratislava welcoming Severstal Cherepovets. Jakub Kovar and Barry Brust are the goalies. Bratislava opened in the first period with an Andrej Meszaros goal, assisted by Andrej Stastny. Cherepovets tied it in the second period with a Yury Trubachyov goal, passed from Dmitry Kagarlitsky and Maxim Trunyov. Severstal took the lead with a Sergei Monakhov goal, via Nikolai Kazakovtsev. Slovan tied it again in the third period with a Jeff Taffe power play goal, powered by Jonathan Cheechoo and Nick Plastino. Bratislava took the lead on a Cheechoo goal, with a lone assist by Stastny. Finally, Dinamo Riga brings in Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. Alexei Murygin and Jakub Sedlacek protect the nets. Yaroslavl started in the first period with a Yegor Korshkov power play goal, powered by Pavel Kraskovsky and Rushan Rafikov. Lokomotiv added on with a Denis Mosalyov goal, fueled by Alexander Polunin. Riga got on the board with a Patrick Mullen goal, via Justin Shugg and Colton Gillies. Dinamo tied it as Gillies scored a power play goal, with the help of Georgijs Pujacs and Mullen. Riga took the game 3-2 in the shootout on two tallies from Shugg backed up by one from Filipp Toluzakov, overpowering Lokomotiv's Daniil Apalkov, who also scored twice. Four games on for today's schedule, beginning with...

Lada pulled back with a Filatov goal, with a lone assist from Gleb Koryagin. Togliatti tied it as Filatov scored his second of the game, fueled by Ivanov and the goalie Ezhov. Lada won it 4-3 with Ivanov's second of the night, helped along by Taylor Aronson and Anton Shenfeld. The three stars were Ivanov, Filatov, and Golyshev, while Turbin gets an honorable mention.

Helsinki was first to score in the first period with a Jesse Joensuu goal, fueled by Peter Regin and Sakari Salminen. Podolsk tied it on a Yury Koksharov goal, via Alexander Stepanov and Sergei Gimayev. Vityaz took the lead in the second period with a Roman Horak goal, made possible by Dmitry Shitikov. Podolsk added on with a Mario Kempe goal, guided in by Alexei Kopeikin and Evgeny Katichev. Jokerit got one back with a Brian O'Neill goal, courtesy of Arturs Kulda and Charles Genoway. Helsinki tied it with another O'Neill goal, with helpers from Kulda and Salminen. Vityaz took the game in the shootout with goals by Miro Aaltonen and Nikita Vyglazov for a 4-3 win. The three stars went to O'Neill, Salminen, and Kulda.

Finally, Medvescak Zagreb brings in CSKA Moscow. Viktor Fasth and Danny Taylor are between the pipes. Moscow drew first blood in the second period with a Stephane Da Costa goal, assisted by Konstantin Alexeyev. Taylor soon received an ejection, and Niko Hovinen came on in relief. CSKA added on with a shorthanded goal by Jan Mursak, set up by Kirill Petrov. Zagreb got on the board with an Alexandre Giroux goal, via Alexandre Bolduc and Colby Genoway. Moscow shot back with a Petrov goal, with a lone helper by Valery Nichushkin. CSKA extended the lead as Petrov scored again, a power play goal powered by Da Costa. Moscow padded the lead as Nichushkin scored a power play goal with the help of Petrov and Bogdan Kiselevich. Medvescak got one back with a Giroux goal, his second of the game, coming off of Tomas Mertl and Jakub Krejcik. This only made it 5-2, the final, with the three stars being Petrov, Da Costa, and Giroux, while Nichushkin gets an honorable mention.

KHL 2016/17 - Day 42

Four games on for today, beginning with...

Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg hosting Ak Bars Kazan. Emil Garipov and Vladimir Sokhatsky are set to start in goal. Kazan led off in the first period with a Nikita Cherepanov goal, with a lone assist by Damir Musin. Ak Bars added on in the second period with a Mikhail Varnakov goal, passed from Atte Ohtamaa and Fyodor Malykhin. Yekaterinburg got on the board on an Andrei Alexeyev goal, guided in by Niclas Andersen and Alexei Simakov. Kazan shot back in the third period with a Vladimir Tkachyov power play goal, powered by Vasily Tokranov and Justin Azevedo. Ak Bars extended the lead as Malykhin scored, thanks to Dmitry Obukhov. This made it 4-1, the final, with the three stars given to Malykhin, Garipov (17 for 18 in saves), and Varnakov.

Down in Kazakhstan, Barys Astana welcomes Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk. Ivan Lisutin and Henrik Karlsson play goal. Nizhnekamsk opened in the first period with an Igor Polygalov power play goal, powered by Dan Sexton and Evgeny Ryasensky. Astana tied it on a Martin St. Pierre goal, via Brandon Bochenski and Kevin Dallman. Barys took the lead in the second period with a Cam Barker goal, coming off of Maxim Khudyakov and Corey Trivino. Neftekhimik retied it with an Alexander Kitarov goal, fueled by Maxim Berezin and Pavel Kulikov. Nizhnekamsk took the lead on a power play goal by Geoffrey Kinrade, assisted by Ryasensky. Neftekhimik added on with a Richard Gynge goal, with a lone helper by Sexton. Astana pulled back with a Bochenski power play goal, with helpers from Nigel Dawes and Barker. Barys tied it as Nikita Ivanov scored, with the help of Nursultan Belgibayev and Alexander Lipin. Astana took the lead on a Trivino goal, made possible by Khudyakov. This stood for a 5-4 win, with the three stars being Trivino, Bochenski, and Barker, while Khudyakov, Ryasensky, and Sexton get the honorable mentions.

Back in Russia, Ugra Khanty-Mansiysk brings in Lada Togliatti. Ilya Ezhov and Alexander Sharychenkov are in the creases. Togliatti started in the first period with a Maxim Rybin power play goal, powered by Yefim Gurkin and Georgy Belousov. Khanty-Mansiysk tied it on a Pavel Varfolomeyev power play goal, guided in by Evgeny Lapenkov and Sergei Gusev in the second period. Ugra took the lead on a Konstantin Panov goal, via Arseny Khatsei and Gusev. Khanty-Mansiysk added on in the third period with a Lapenkov goal, assisted by Varfolomeyev and Alexander Ugolnikov. Ugra iced it at 4-1 with a shorthanded and unassisted empty net goal by Konstantin Sokolov. The three stars went to Lapenkov, Varfolomeyev, and Gusev.

Finally, we end with Dinamo Riga hosting Dynamo Moscow. Alexander Yeryomenko and Jakub Sedlacek are the masked men. Moscow began in the first period with a power play goal by Juuso Hietanen, powered by Alexander Rybakov. Dynamo added on with an Andrei Mironov goal, guided in by Ilya Nikulin. Moscow extended the lead as Mat Robinson scored, thanks to Maxim Karpov. Janis Kalnins replaced Sedlacek in the second period. Dynamo padded the lead with a Semyon Kokuyov goal, fueled by Alexei Sopin and Robinson. Riga got on the board with an Eriks Sevcenko goal, passed from Kaspars Saulietis. Dinamo chipped closer on a third period power play goal by Ralfs Freibergs, courtesy of Lauris Darzins and Guntis Galvins. The game ended at 4-2, with the three stars being Robinson, Kokuyov, and Yeryomenko (23 for 25 in saves).
