KHL 2016/17 - Day 45

Nine games fill the schedule today. We begin with...

Amur Khabarovsk hosting Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod. Ilya Proskuryakov and Juha Metsola are in goal. Nizhny Novgorod got going in the second period with a Dmitry Shulenin goal, via Kirill Rasskazov and Denis Shurakov. This stood for a 1-0 win, with the three stars going to Shulenin, Proskuryakov (25 save shutout), and Metsola (27 for 28 in saves).

Down in Vladivostok, Admiral welcomes the Sochi Leopards. Konstantin Barulin and Igor Bobkov man the nets. Vladivostok opened in the first period with a Robert Sabolic power play goal, powered by Jonathon Blum. This lasted the whole game for a 1-0 win, with the three stars awarded to Bobkov (27 save shutout), Sabolic, and Barulin (23 for 24 in saves).

Into China, where Kunlun Red Star Beijing brings in Spartak Moscow to Shanghai. Nikita Bespalov and Andrei Makarov are in the blue paint. Beijing started in the first period with a Joonas Jarvinen power play goal, powered by Chad Rau and Max Warn. Moscow tied it on a second period Anatoly Nikontsev goal, fueled by Artyom Voronin and Nikita Li. Spartak took the lead with a Ryan Stoa goal, guided in by Lukas Radil and Matthew Gilroy. Kunlun Red Star tied it with a Tobias Viklund power play goal in the third period, made possible by Linus Videll. Beijing took the lead with a Jarvinen goal, with assists provided by Warn and Miika Lahti. Kunlun Red Star added on with an unassisted Damien Fleury. This made it 4-2, the final, with the three stars went to Jarvinen, Warn, and Fleury.

Back in Russia, Avangard Omsk hosts Sibir Novosibirsk. Alexander Salak and Dominik Furch tend the twines. Novosibirsk led off in the first period with a Sergei Shumakov goal, passed from Adam Polasek. Omsk tied it on an Evgeny Medvedev goal, helped along by Valentin Pyanov and Maxim Pestushko. The tie went all the way to a shootout, where Sibir's Konstantin Okulov was topped by Ilya Zubov and Nikolai Lemtyugov for a 2-1 Avangard win. The three stars went to Furch (18 for 19 in saves), Salak (23 for 24 in saves), and Medvedev.

Along to Magnitogorsk, with Metallurg welcoming Traktor Chelyabinsk. Vasily Demchenko faces a lesser foe in Ilya Samsonov in goal. Chelyabinsk struck first in the first period with a power play goal by Alexei Petrov, powered by Alexander Shinin and Paul Szczechura. Traktor added on with a shorthanded and unassisted goal from Szczechura. Magnitogorsk got on the board in the second period with a Dmitry Kazionov goal, assisted by Sergei Tereshchenko and Oskar Osala. Metallurg tied it on a Sergei Mozyakin power play goal, with helpers from Chris Lee and Alexander Semin. Magnitogorsk took the lead in the third period on a Jan Kovar goal, made possible by Semin and Alexei Bereglazov. Chelyabinsk retied it as Kirill Koltsov scored, thanks to Nikolai Belov. Metallurg regained the lead with a Lee goal, with a lone assist by Semin, who earned a sock trick. The three stars of the 4-3 game were Lee, Semin, and Szczechura.

Way out west, SKA St. Petersburg brings in CSKA Moscow. Ilya Sorokin and Igor Shestyorkin are the young goalies. St. Petersburg began in the first period with a Sergei Shirokov goal, assisted by Jarno Koskiranta and Dinar Khafizullin. SKA iced it at 2-0 with a third period empty net goal by Sergei Plotnikov, set up by Ilya Kovalchuk and Pavel Datsyuk. The three stars were Shestyorkin (38 save shutout), Shirokov, and Sorokin (26 for 27 in saves).

Out in Belarus, Dinamo Minsk hosts Vityaz Podolsk. Harri Sateri and Ben Scrivens are the masked men. Podolsk was first to score in the first period with a power play goal by Miro Aaltonen, via Alexei Kopeikin. Minsk tied it in the second period on a Rob Klinkhammer power play goal, powered by Evgeny Lisovets and Matt Ellison. Vityaz took the lead on another Aaltonen power play goal, coming off of Ilya Davydov and Jakub Jerabek. Dinamo retied it with a Marc-Andre Gragnani power play goal in the third period, helped along by Sergei Kostitsyn and David Ullstrom. Podolsk won 3-2 in overtime on an unassisted goal by Igor Golovkov. The three stars were handed to Aaltonen, Golovkov, and Sateri (22 for 24 in saves).

Into Slovakia, with Slovan Bratislava welcoming Severstal Cherepovets. Jakub Kovar and Barry Brust are the goalies. Bratislava opened in the first period with an Andrej Meszaros goal, assisted by Andrej Stastny. Cherepovets tied it in the second period with a Yury Trubachyov goal, passed from Dmitry Kagarlitsky and Maxim Trunyov. Severstal took the lead with a Sergei Monakhov goal, via Nikolai Kazakovtsev. Slovan tied it again in the third period with a Jeff Taffe power play goal, powered by Jonathan Cheechoo and Nick Plastino. Bratislava took the lead on a Cheechoo goal, with a lone assist by Stastny. The three stars went to Cheechoo, Stastny, and Taffe.

Finally, Dinamo Riga brings in Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. Alexei Murygin and Jakub Sedlacek protect the nets. Yaroslavl started in the first period with a Yegor Korshkov power play goal, powered by Pavel Kraskovsky and Rushan Rafikov. Lokomotiv added on with a Denis Mosalyov goal, fueled by Alexander Polunin. Riga got on the board with a Patrick Mullen goal, via Justin Shugg and Colton Gillies. Dinamo tied it as Gillies scored a power play goal, with the help of Georgijs Pujacs and Mullen. Riga took the game 3-2 in the shootout on two tallies from Shugg backed up by one from Filipp Toluzakov, overpowering Lokomotiv's Daniil Apalkov, who also scored twice. The three stars belonged to Gillies, Mullen, and Shugg.
