MLS Midweek - August 8, 2019

Just a single game today as New York City FC hosts the Houston Dynamo. Tyler Deric and Sean Johnson draw the starts in goal. New York City struck first in the 16th minute with an Alexandru Mitrita goal, assisted by Heber and Jesus Medina. Houston tied it on a Juan Cabezas goal in the 26th minute, passed from Tommy McNamara and Tomas Martinez. The Dynamo went down to ten men in the 29th minute with a straight red card issued to Romell Quioto for violent conduct. Memo Rodriguez of Houston took a yellow card for a 38th minute foul. The Pigeons saw yellow cards for fouls by Eric Miller in the 42nd minute and Alexander Ring in first half stoppage time. The Dynamo's Aljaz Struna picked up a yellow card for a 62nd minute foul. Houston pulled ahead in the 77th minute with a Mauro Manotas goal, guided in by Matias Vera. Adam Lundkvist of the Dynamo received a yellow card for his 82nd minute foul. New York City retied it in the 83rd minute with a Valentin Castellanos goal, fueled by Keaton Parks. Houston's Vera earned a yellow card in the 86th minute for a foul. The Pigeons pulled ahead in second half stoppage time with another Castellanos goal, and he took a yellow card for delay of game during the celebration. The final was 3-2, with Castellanos as the man of the match.

NWSL Midweek - August 7, 2019

Two games at midweek this time, beginning with...

Utah Royals FC hosting Sky Blue FC. Kailen Sheridan and Nicole Barnhart protect the nets. Utah began in the 27th minute with a Christen Press goal on a deflected Lo'eau LaBonta pass. The Royals added on in the 29th minute with another Press goal, assisted by LaBonta. Utah extended the lead in the 48th minute as Amy Rodriguez scored, thanks to Mallory Weber. Sky Blue had yellow cards for a Kenie Wright foul in the 60th minute and dissent by Jen Hoy from the bench in the 61st minute. The final was 3-0, with Press named woman of the match.

Up in Tacoma, Reign FC hosts the Portland Thorns FC. Adrianna Franch and Casey Murphy are the keepers. Reign's Steph Catley had a yellow card for a 31st minute foul. Reign got going in the 55th minute with a Rosie White goal on a rebound. Jodie Taylor of Reign took a yellow card for a 78th minute foul. The final held at 1-0, with the woman of the match being Reign's Lauren Barnes who blocked a handful of Thorns shots.

MLS 2019 - Week 22

We've got 12 games over two days this time. Leading off a nine-game Saturday...

Atlanta United FC hosts the Los Angeles Galaxy. David Bingham and Brad Guzan protect the nets. Atlanta received an early gift in the 23rd minute on an own goal by Los Angeles' Dave Romney. The Five Stripes added on with another Galaxy own goal, this time by Giancarlo Gonzalez in the 43rd minute. Los Angeles saw yellow cards for fouls by Rolf Feltscher in the 52nd minute and Gonzalez in the 71st minute. Atlanta extended the lead in the 75th minute as Josef Martinez converted a penalty kick goal. Gonzalo Martinez of the Five Stripes took a yellow card for a 75th minute foul. Julian Araujo of the Galaxy picked up a yellow card for his 89th minute foul. The game ended at 3-0, with Guzan's four-save clean sheet enough to earn him man of the match honors.

Up north, the New York Red Bulls welcome Toronto FC. Quentin Westberg and Luis Robles man the nets. New York took a gift in the 55th minute when Toronto's Chris Mavinga was charged with an own goal. The Red Bulls took yellow cards for persistent infringement by Cristian Casseres Jr. in the 68th minute and a 70th minute Aaron Long foul. The Reds' Alejandro Pozuelo took a yellow card in the 84th minute for dangerous play. Toronto went down to ten men in the 89th minute when Justin Morrow was awarded a straight red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity. New York added on in stoppage time with a Kemar Lawrence goal, producing the 2-0 final and making Lawrence the man of the match.

Along to New England, where the Revolution bring in Los Angeles FC. Tyler Miller and Matt Turner are the keepers. Los Angeles started in the 8th minute with a Diego Rossi goal, via Jordan Harvey. In the 66th minute, the Black and Gold's Walker Zimmerman received a yellow card for a foul. Los Angeles added on in the 72nd minute with a Latif Blessing goal, coming off of Harvey and Eduard Atuesta. New England's Wilfried Zahibo took a yellow card for his 74th minute foul. The final was 2-0, with Harvey's pair of assists earning him the man of the match title.

Back to the south, Orlando City SC hosts FC Dallas. Jesse Gonzalez and Brian Rowe are the veterans in goal. Orlando City opened in the 13th minute with a Tesho Akindele goal, passed from Ruan. Dallas saw yellow cards for fouls by Reto Ziegler in the 20th minute, Paxton Pomykal in the 39th minute, and Brandon Servania in the 45th minute. Sebastian Mendez of the Lions picked up a yellow card for his 69th minute foul. The Toros saw a yellow card given to Jesus Ferreira in the 81st minute for a foul. Orlando City capped it at 2-0 with a Carlos Ascues goal in stoppage time, helped along by Sacha Kljestan and Akindele. The man of the match was Akindele.

Backtracking to Ohio, where FC Cincinnati welcomes the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Maxime Crepeau and Przemyslaw Tyton are the inexperienced keepers. Cincinnati led off in the 6th minute with an Allan Cruz goal, coming off of Darren Mattocks and Mathieu Deplagne. Vancouver tied it in the 41st minute with a Hwang In-Beom goal. The Whitecaps took thelead in the 84th minute with a Felipe goal, passed from Russell Teibert and Ali Adnan. The Orange and Blue's Leonardo Bertone received a yellow card for a foul in stoppage time. The final was 2-1 Vancouver, with Felipe as the man of the match.

Out west, the Colorado Rapids bring in the Montreal Impact. Evan Bush and Tim Howard make the starts in goal. Montreal was first on the board in the 18th minute with an own goal by Colorado's Kei Kamara. The Rapids evened it with a 21st minute own goal from Impact keeper Bush. Colorado took the lead in the 36th minute when Kamara converted a penalty kick. The Rapids added on in first half stoppage time with another Kamara goal, set up by Andre Shinyashiki. Three minutes later, Colorado extended the lead as Diego Rubio scored, with the help of Jack Price. Clint Irwin replaced Howard in the Rapids' goal at the start of the second half, which was deemed a precautionary change. Montreal got one back with a Maximiliano Urruti goal in the 55th minute, courtesy of Mathieu Choiniere. Lalas Abubakar of the Rapids received a yellow card for a 56th minute foul, as did teammate Kellyn Acosta in the 75th minute. The Impact pulled another one back with a Saphir Taider penalty kick goal in the 76th minute. Colorado countered with a Shinyashiki goal in the 78th minute, fueled by Price. Montreal's Ken Krolicki picked up a yellow card for an 83rd minute foul. The Rapids padded the lead with Kamara finishing his hat trick into the correct net, with a helper from Price. This made it 6-3, the final, with Kamara's crazy night making him man of the match.

Southeast to Houston, where the Dynamo host the Chicago Fire. Kenneth Kronholm and Tyler Deric protect the nets. Alberth Elis of Houston had a yellow card for his 44th minute foul. Chicago began in first half stoppage time with a Nemanja Nikolic goal, assisted by Nicolas Gaitan. The Dynamo's Matias Vera received a yellow card for a 46th minute foul. The Fire's Brandt Bronico picked up a yellow card for a 53rd minute foul, as did teammate Dax McCarty in the 67th minute. The final remained at 1-0, with the man of the match being Kronholm for his four-save clean sheet.

Back to the mountains, where Real Salt Lake welcomes New York City FC. Sean Johnson and Nick Rimando guard the woodwork. New York City struck first in the 4th minute with an Alexander Ring goal, set up by Anton Tinnerholm. James Sands of the Pigeons had a yellow card for a 27th minute foul. Salt Lake tied it in the 37th minute on a Jefferson Savarino goal, coming off of Kyle Beckerman and Albert Rusnak. Everton Luiz of Real received a yellow card in first half stoppage time for his foul. Salt Lake's Beckerman earned a yellow card for a foul in the 68th minute. New York City saw a yellow card for a Ring foul in the 74th minute. Real took the lead in the 75th minute on a Rusnak goal, assisted by Beckerman. Salt Lake added on in the 88th minute with a Nick Besler goal, helped along by Savarino. In second half stoppage time, Ronald Matarrita of the Pigeons was booked for a foul. The final held at 3-1, with the man of the match honors given to Beckerman.

Saturday's finale is in San Jose, where the Earthquakes bring in the Columbus Crew SC. Eloy Room is mismatched with Daniel Vega in goal. San Jose drew first blood in the 41st minute on a Magnus Eriksson penalty kick goal. Columbus tied it in the 65th minute with a Gyasi Zardes goal, helped along by Luis Diaz. The Crew's David Accam picked up a yellow card for a 75th minute foul. Eriksson of the Earthquakes received a yellow card in the 83rd minute for his foul. The final was 1-1, with Zardes' equalizer making him the man of the match.

On Sunday, Minnesota United FC hosts the Portland Timbers. Steve Clark and Vito Mannone are in the six-yard boxes. Larrys Mabiala of Portland took a yellow card for a 39th minute foul. The Timbers also saw yellow cards for dissent by the keeper Clark in the 50th minute and fouls by Diego Chara in the 53rd minute and Julio Cascante in the 58th minute. Michael Boxall of Minnesota had a yellow card for his 75th minute foul. The Loons dented the scoreboard with an Ethan Finlay penalty kick goal in stoppage time, which was enough for them to claim the 1-0 win. The man of the match was Mannone for his five-save clean sheet.

Eastward to DC United welcoming the Philadelphia Union. Andre Blake and Bill Hamid tend the twines. Philadelphia cracked the scoresheet in the 3rd minute with an Alejandro Bedoya goal, via Marco Fabian and Andrew Wooten. The Union saw yellow cards for fouls by Haris Medunjanin in the 25th minute and Bedoya in the 31st minute. DC went down to ten men in the 40th minute when Junior Moreno received a straight red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity. Fabian of Philadelphia had a yellow card for his 42nd minute foul. The Union added on with a Fabian goal in first half stoppage time, guided in by Kai Wagner and Medunjanin. Philadelphia extended the lead in the 52nd minute as Kacper Przybylko scored, thanks to Warren Creavalle. Aurelien Collin of the Union picked up a yellow card in the 53rd minute for a foul. The Black and Red got on the board in the 54th minute with a Frederic Brillant goal. Philadelphia responded with another Fabian goal in the 70th minute, coming off of Medunjanin. The Union iced it at 5-1 with a Fabrice-Jean Picault goal in the 90th minute, assisted by Ilsinho and Jamiro Monteiro. The man of the match was Fabian.

Finally, the Seattle Sounders FC bring in Sporting Kansas City. Tim Melia and Stefan Frei patrol the penalty areas. Kansas City got going in the 12th minute with a Felipe Gutierrez goal, assisted by Seth Sinovic. Sporting added on in the 33rd minute with a Gutierrez penalty kick goal. Nouhou of Seattle received a yellow card for persistent infringement in the 35th minute. Kansas City's Sinovic took a yellow card for his 40th minute foul. The Sounders got on the board in the 46th minute with a Jordan Morris goal, set up by Nicolas Lodeiro. Sporting's Gerso earned a yellow card for persistent infringement in the 53rd minute. Saad Abdul-Salaam of Seattle picked up a yellow card for a 55th minute foul. Kansas City replied with an Erik Hurtado goal in the 58th minute, passed from Gerso. Sporting saw a yellow card for a 62nd minute Benny Feilhaber foul. The Sounders' Nicolas Lodeiro was shown a yellow card for a 71st minute foul. Seattle pulled one back with a Morris goal in the 82nd minute, helped along by Handwalla Bwana. This only made it 3-2, the final, with the man of the match being Gutierrez.

NWSL 2019 - Week 16

It's a new week of NWSL action with a pair of games each scheduled on Friday and Saturday. First up...

The Houston Dash host Reign FC. Casey Murphy and Jane Campbell are the young keepers. Reign led off in the 21st minute with a Rosie White goal on a rebound. Reign saw yellow cards for delay of game by Darian Jenkins in the 80th minute and the keeper Murphy in the 85th minute. In stoppage time, Houston's Christine Nairn took a yellow card for a foul. The final remained at 1-0, with White tagged as woman of the match.

Next up, the North Carolina Courage welcome the Washington Spirit. Originally scheduled for Friday, the game was postponed to Saturday due to weather. Aubrey Bledsoe and Stephanie Labbe are the talented keepers for the rescheduled match. Washington went down to ten women in the 24th minute when Paige Nielsen received a straight red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity. North Carolina got going in the 64th minute with a Debinha goal, set up by Julia Spetsmark and Jaelene Hinkle. In stoppage time, the Courage's Spetsmark received a yellow card for a foul. The final remained at 1-0, with Debinha as the woman of the match.

Westward to Chicago, as the Red Stars bring in the Utah Royals FC. Nicole Barnhart faces a lesser foe in Emily Boyd in goal. Chicago began in the 5th minute with a Sam Kerr goal on a rebound. In the 74th minute, Gunnhildur Jonsdottir received a yellow card for a foul for Utah. The Red Stars added on in the 85th minute with a Brooke Elby deflected goal on a rebound from Savannah McCaskill's shot. The final held at 2-0, with the woman of the match being Kerr.

Finally, the Portland Thorns FC host Sky Blue FC. Kailen Sheridan and Britt Eckerstrom patrol the penalty areas. Portland struck first in the 39th minute with a Christine Sinclair penalty kick goal. Sky Blue tied it in the 69th minute on an Imani Dorsey goal, passed from Elizabeth Eddy. Sky Blue's Amandine Pierre-Louis received a yellow card for a 73rd minute foul. In stoppage time, Sky Blue's Pierre-Louis received a second yellow card and ejection from the game for another foul. The final stood at 1-1, with Dorsey's equalizer making her woman of the match.

NWSL 2019 - Week 15

Only three weekend games grace the schedule this time, beginning with...

The Utah Royals FC hosting the North Carolina Courage on Saturday. Stephanie Labbe and Nicole Barnhart tend the twines. Utah led off in the 13th minute with a Christen Press goal, via Veronica Boquete. North Carolina tied it in the 35th minute on a Kristen Hamilton goal, passed from Samantha Mewis. The Courage took the lead with a Jessica McDonald goal in the 54th minute, coming off of Hamilton. This stood for a 2-1 win, with Hamilton given woman of the match honors.

On Sunday, Reign FC welcomes the Chicago Red Stars. Alyssa Naeher and Casey Murphy protect the nets. Chicago began in the 4th minute with an Arin Wright goal on a rebound. The Red Stars added on in the 14th minute with a Vanessa DiBernardo goal, via Sam Kerr. In the 34th minute, Lauren Barnes of Reign took a yellow card for a foul. Chicago extended the lead in the 51st minute as Yuki Nagasato scored, thanks to Casey Short. Julie Ertz of the Red Stars earned a yellow card for a 59th minute foul. A full weekend is ahead, beginning with...

New York City FC hosting Sporting Kansas City. Tim Melia and Sean Johnson are the goalies. New York City led off in the 41st minute with an Anton Tinnerholm goal, via Alexander Ring and Alexandru Mitrita. Roger Espinoza of Kansas City had a yellow card for a 45th minute foul, as did the Pigeons' Maxime Chanot. New York City added on in the 54th minute with a Heber goal, coming off of Ring. Sporting went down to ten men in the 62nd minute on an Espinoza foul that drew a straight red card. Kansas City got on the board in the 73rd minute with an Ilie Sanchez goal, helped along by Benny Feilhaber and Johnny Russell. The Pigeons replied with a Ring goal in the 77th minute, assisted by Gary Mackay-Steven. Sporting had yellow cards for Gerso in the 80th minute and Botond Barath in stoppage time, both for fouls. The final was 3-1, with Ring named man of the match.

Out west, Los Angeles FC welcomes Atlanta United FC. Brad Guzan faces a lesser foe in Pablo Sisniega in goal. Atlanta began in the 2nd minute with a Mohammed Adams goal. Los Angeles tied it with an Adama Diomande goal in the 33rd minute, via Mark-Anthony Kaye. The Black and Gold took the lead in the 38th minute with a Diego Rossi. Los Angeles extended the lead in the 42nd minute as Carlos Vela scored on a penalty kick goal. The Five Stripes' Eric Remedi took a yellow card for a 44th minute foul. The Black and Gold padded the lead on an Eduard Atuesta goal in the 45th minute, helped along by Diomande and Vela. Atlanta pulled one back with a Josef Martinez goal in first half stoppage time, made possible by Julian Gressel. The Five Stripes got closer with an own goal by Los Angeles' Eddie Segura in the 51st minute. Atlanta saw yellow cards for Leandro Gonzalez Pirez's 56th minute foul and an 80th minute foul by Justin Meram. The final held at 4-3, with the man of the match being Diomande.

In the 84th minute, the Galaxy went down to ten men as Efrain Alvarez received a straight red card for violent conduct. Portland padded the lead with a Jeremy Ebobisse goal in the 88th minute, passed from Villafana and Zambrano. In stoppage time, the Timbers went down to ten men and Los Angeles was reduced to nine men as Dairon Asprilla and Polenta each received straight red cards. The final remained 4-0 Timbers, with Paredes crowned man of the match.

NWSL Midweek - July 24, 2019

Two Wednesday night games begin on the east coast with...

Sky Blue FC hosting the Washington Spirit. Aubrey Bledsoe and Kailen Sheridan are the young keepers. In the 50th minute, Julie James Doyle of Sky Blue took a yellow card for a foul. Washington got going in the 54th minute with an Ashley Hatch goal. The Spirit's Tori Huster received a yellow card for time wasting in stoppage time. The final was 1-0, with the woman of the match being Hatch.

Out west, the Portland Thorns FC host the Houston Dash. Jane Campbell and Adrianna Franch protect the nets. Portland led off in the 7th minute with a Lindsey Horan goal, assisted by Tobin Heath. The Thorns added on in the 12th minute with a Hayley Raso goal, coming off of Heath. Portland extended the lead as Christine Sinclair converted a penalty kick goal in the 18th minute. The Thorns padded the lead in the 23rd minute as Raso scored again, thanks to Midge Purce. In the 70th minute, Allysha Chapman of Houston took a yellow card for a foul. Portland continued in the 71st minute on an own goal by Dash keeper Campbell. The final remained at 5-0, with Heath as the woman of the match.
