MLS Midweek - August 14, 2019

Five games on in midweek this time, with...

Orlando City SC hosting Sporting Kansas City to lead off. Tim Melia and Brian Rowe are the keepers. Orlando City began in the 21st minute with a Tesho Akindele goal, via Carlos Ascues and Oriol Rosell. In the 37th minute, Felipe Gutierrez of Kansas City and Nani of the Lions each received yellow cards for fouls. Akindele of Orlando City picked up a yellow card for a 49th minute foul. Luis Martins of Sporting had a yellow card for his 90th minute foul. The final was 1-0, with Akindele as the man of the match.

Way up north, Minnesota United FC welcomes the Colorado Rapids. Clint Irwin and Vito Mannone draw the starts in goal. Minnesota led off in the 39th minute with a Darwin Quintero goal, assisted by Kevin Molino. Colorado had a yellow card for a 45th minute foul by Kellyn Acosta. The Loons saw yellow cards for a Chase Gasper foul in the 60th minute and dangerous play by Michael Boxall in the 83rd minute. The final remained at 1-0, with Quintero as the man of the match.

Southwest to Utah, as Real Salt Lake hosts the Seattle Sounders FC. Stefan Frei and Nick Rimando are the gloved men. Salt Lake opened in the 25th minute with a Sam Johnson goal, via Aaron Herrera. Everton Luiz of Real took a yellow card for a 52nd minute foul. Joevin Jones of Seattle received a yellow card for his 70th minute foul. Salt Lake added on in the 71st minute with an Albert Rusnak goal, passed from Damir Kreilach and Corey Baird. Real extended the lead as Baird scored, thanks to Kreilach, in the 87th minute. The final was 3-0, with the man of the match being Kreilach.

Out in California, the Los Angeles Galaxy bring in FC Dallas. Jesse Gonzalez and David Bingham are in the six-yard boxes. Los Angeles got going in the 68th minute with a Zlatan Ibrahimovic goal, assisted by Jorgen Skjelvik and Cristian Pavon. The Galaxy added on in the 82nd minute with an Ibrahimovic penalty kick goal. Rolf Feltscher of Los Angeles had a yellow card for a 90th minute foul. In stoppage time, Bryan Acosta of Dallas received a yellow card for a foul. The final was 2-0, with Ibrahimovic selected as the man of the match.

Finally, the Portland Timbers host the Chicago Fire. David Ousted and Steve Clark are the veterans in goal. Portland started in the 11th minute with a Jorge Moreira goal. The Timbers added on in the 21st minute with a Brian Fernandez goal, via Cristhian Paredes and Moreira. Marvin Loria of Portland took a yellow card for his 27th minute foul. Chicago went down to ten men in the 30th minute when Aleksandar Katai had a straight red card for his foul. The Fire got on the board in the 74th minute with a Nemanja Nikolic goal. Francisco Calvo of Chicago had a yellow card for his 79th minute foul. The Timbers' Jeremy Ebobisse was given a yellow card for an 81st minute foul. Portland responded with an 88th minute Fernandez goal, made possible by Tomas Conechny and Diego Valeri. The Fire pulled one back in stoppage time on a C.J. Sapong goal, courtesy of Przemyslaw Frankowski. This only made it 3-2, the final, with Fernandez as the man of the match.

NWSL Midweek - August 14, 2019

The only midweek game for NWSL this week sees Sky Blue FC hosting the Chicago Red Stars. Alyssa Naeher and Kailen Sheridan protect the nets. Sky Blue's Kenie Wright took a yellow card for a 56th minute foul. In the 62nd minute, Chicago's Yuki Nagasato received a yellow card for a foul, as did teammate Katie Naughton in the 64th minute. Sky Blue got going in the 71st minute with a Paige Monaghan goal, assisted by Carli Lloyd. The Red Stars tied it in stoppage time on a Sam Kerr goal, set up by Yuki Nagasato. Sky Blue retook the lead just minutes later with another Monaghan goal, coming off of Julie James Doyle. This stood for a 2-1 win, with Monaghan named woman of the match.

MLS 2019 - Week 23

We've got a full weekend ahead, with eight games on Saturday beginning in...

Seattle, as the Sounders FC host the New England Revolution. Matt Turner and Stefan Frei are in the six-yard boxes. Seattle opened on a Harry Shipp goal in the 2nd minute, via Jordan Morris and Jordy Delem. New England tied it in the 27th minute with a Michael Mancienne goal, passed from Carles Gil. The Revolution took the lead on a Gustavo Bou goal in the 35th minute, set up by Edgar Castillo. New England saw yellow cards for fouls by Andrew Farrell in the 46th minute and Mancienne in the 54th minute. The Sounders retied it in the 65th minute with a Shipp goal, assisted by Joevin Jones and Nicolas Lodeiro. Seattle pulled ahead on a Lodeiro goal in the 66th minute, coming off of Morris and Cristian Roldan. The Revolution equalized with a Gil penalty kick goal in the 87th minute. In the 89th minute, Kim Kee-hee of the Sounders took a yellow card for dissent. The final was 3-3, with the man of the match being Shipp.

At the normal time, the Columbus Crew SC welcome in-state rivals in FC Cincinnati. Przemyslaw Tyton and Eloy Room are the newcomer keepers. Cincinnati started in the 16th minute with a Darren Mattocks goal, via Victor Ulloa. Alex Crognale of Columbus had a yellow card for an 18th minute foul. The Orange and Blue added on in the 23rd minute with an Emmanuel Ledesma goal, passed from Roland Lamah. The Crew got on the board with a Gyasi Zardes penalty kick goal in the 45th minute. Columbus tied it in the 62nd minute with a Pedro Santos goal, guided in by Wil Trapp. The Crew's Santos picked up a yellow card for a 68th minute foul. Cincinnati saw yellow cards for fouls by Maikel van der Werff in the 72nd minute and Allan Cruz and Ulloa in stoppage time. The final remained at 2-2, with Santos named man of the match.

Up in Canada, Toronto FC brings in Orlando City SC. Brian Rowe and Quentin Westberg man the nets. Marco Delgado of Toronto had a yellow card for a 34th minute foul. Orlando City got going in the 69th minute with a Benji Michel goal, passed from Chris Mueller. The Reds tied it in the 77th minute with a Patrick Mullins goal. Lamine Sane of the Lions earned a yellow card for an 82nd minute foul. The final was 1-1, with the man of the match title going to Rowe, who went four for five in saves.

Way to the south, FC Dallas hosts Minnesota United FC. Vito Mannone and Jesse Gonzalez are the gloved men. Minnesota led off in the 11th minute with an Ethan Finlay goal, courtesy of Miguel Ibarra. Dallas tied it on a Ryan Hollingshead goal in the 28th minute, set up by Michael Barrios. The Toros took the lead in the 32nd minute with a Santiago Mosquera goal. The Loons retied it in the 41st minute on another Finlay goal, helped along by Collin Martin. Dallas regained the lead with a 45th minute goal by Reggie Cannon, coming off of Barrios and Paxton Pomykal. Minnesota saw yellow cards for fouls by Ibarra in the 48th minute, Hassani Dotson in the 58th minute, and Michael Boxall in the 69th minute. The Toros' Dominique Badji earned a yellow card for a 72nd minute foul. The Loons equalized in the 73rd minute with a Dotson goal, guided in by Lawrence Olum. Dallas regained the lead in the 85th minute on a Brandon Servania goal, assisted by Barrios and Pomykal. The Toros added on in stoppage time with another Servania goal, with a helper from Pomykal. Three minutes later, Cannon of Dallas had a yellow card for time wasting while Mason Toye of Minnesota took a straight red card for violent conduct to put his team at ten men. The final was 5-3, with Barrios' trio of assists making him man of the match.

Backtracking to Kansas City, where Sporting welcomes Real Salt Lake. Nick Rimando and Tim Melia tend the twines. In the 29th minute, Salt Lake's Nick Besler and Kansas City's Felipe Gutierrez each had yellow cards for fouls. Sporting began in the 31st minute with a Johnny Russell goal. Real tied it in the 38th minute with a Corey Baird goal. In first half stoppage time, Donny Toia of Salt Lake and Andreu Fontas of Kansas City received yellow cards for fouls. Real pulled ahead in the 70th minute with another Baird goal, set up by Jefferson Savarino. Salt Lake's Baird had a yellow card for a 76th minute foul. Sporting went down to ten men in the 84th minute when Daniel Salloi took a straight red card for his foul. In second half stoppage time, Kansas City's Erik Hurtado and Real's Aaron Herrera took yellow cards for fouls. The final was 2-1, and Baird's brace secured man of the match honors.

Along to Chicago, as the Fire bring in the Montreal Impact. Evan Bush faces a lesser foe in Kenneth Kronholm in goal. Chicago struck first in the 8th minute with a Dax McCarty goal, via Bastian Schweinsteiger. The Fire added on in the 19th minute with a Nemanja Nikolic goal, courtesy of Aleksandar Katai and Francisco Calvo. Chicago keeper Kronholm took a yellow card for a 32nd minute foul. Montreal got on the board in the 34th minute with a Saphir Taider penalty kick goal. The Impact saw a yellow card for a Zakaria Diallo foul in the 67th minute. McCarty of the Fire had a yellow card for a 74th minute foul. Montreal tied it in the 76th minute with a Bacary Sagna goal, assisted by Jorge Corrales. Chicago regained the lead in the 88th minute with a Schweinsteiger goal, set up by Djordje Mihailovic. This stood for a 3-2 win, with Schweinsteiger selected as man of the match.

Westward to Colorado, as the Rapids host the San Jose Earthquakes. Daniel Vega and Clint Irwin are between the sticks. Colorado was first to score in the 44th minute with a Kellyn Acosta goal, via Diego Rubio. San Jose's Judson took a yellow card for a 55th minute foul. The Earthquakes tied it on a Valeri Qazaishvili goal in the 62nd minute, helped along by Danny Hoesen. The Rapids retook the lead with a Rubio goal in the 73rd minute, coming off of Keegan Rosenberry. Jackson Yueill of San Jose received a yellow card for his 77th minute foul. Saturday's finale is in Portland, where the Timbers welcome the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Maxime Crepeau and Steve Clark are the goalies. Portland kicked off the scoring in the 28th minute with a Sebastian Blanco goal, set up by Diego Valeri. Vancouver tied it on a Theo Bair goal in the 38th minute. In first half stoppage time, Julio Cascante of the Timbers took a yellow card for a foul. Portland regained the lead in the 55th minute with a Marvin Loria goal, passed from Blanco. Loria of the Timbers had a yellow card for a 59th minute. The Whitecaps saw yellow cards for Erik Godoy's foul in the 65th minute and persistent infringement by Jakob Nerwinski in the 84th minute. Portland added on in the 90th minute with a Jeremy Ebobisse goal, assisted by Tomas Conechny and Valeri. The final was 3-1, and Blanco was the man of the match.

On Sunday, the first of four games has Atlanta United FC bringing in New York City FC. Sean Johnson and Brad Guzan patrol the penalty areas. Leandro Gonzalez Pirez took a yellow card for Atlanta for his 20th minute foul. New York City saw yellow cards for fouls by James Sands and Ronald Matarrita in the 27th and 37th minutes, respectively. The Five Stripes drew first blood in the 42nd minute with a Josef Martinez goal, via Julian Gressel and Gonzalo Martinez. Gonzalo Martinez of Atlanta had a yellow card for a 59th minute foul. The Five Stripes added on with a Josef Martinez penalty kick goal in the 63rd minute. Atlanta's Gressel received a yellow card for a 69th minute foul. The Pigeons' Maxime Chanot picked up a yellow card for his 74th minute yellow card. New York City got on the board with a Heber goal in the 81st minute, made possible by Valentin Castellanos and Maximiliano Moralez. This only made it 2-1, the final, with Josef Martinez as the man of the match.

Northward to Philadelphia, as the Union host the Houston Dynamo. Joe Willis and Andre Blake are the keepers. Philadelphia cracked the scoresheet in the 18th minute with a Kacper Przybylko goal, assisted by Haris Medunjanin. Houston's Maynor Figueroa took a yellow card for a 34th minute foul. The Dynamo tied it in the 42nd minute with a Christian Ramirez goal, passed from DaMarcus Beasley and Memo Rodriguez. Houston's Juan Cabezas received a yellow card for a 58th minute foul. The Union pulled ahead in the 78th minute on a Jack Elliott goal. The final was 2-1, with the man of the match being Elliott.

Also, DC United welcomes the Los Angeles Galaxy. David Bingham and Bill Hamid draw the starts in goal. DC dented the scoreboard in the 28th minute on a Paul Arriola goal, assisted by Ulises Segura and Quincy Amarikwa. Los Angeles tied it in the 48th minute with a Favio Alvarez goal. The Black and Red retook the lead in the 73rd minute on a Lucas Rodriguez goal. Amarikwa of DC took a yellow card for a 75th minute foul. The final remained at 2-1, with Rodriguez as the man of the match.

Finally, Los Angeles FC brings in the New York Red Bulls. Luis Robles and Tyler Miller guard the woodwork. New York's Tim Parker had a yellow card for an 8th minute foul. Los Angeles got on the board first with a 23rd minute Jordan Harvey goal, assisted by Carlos Vela. The Black and Gold added on in the 25th minute with a Latif Blessing goal, via Steven Beitashour and Eduard Atuesta. The Red Bulls got one back with a Cristian Casseres Jr. goal. New York tied it in the 45th minute with an own goal by Los Angeles keeper Miller. The Red Bulls saw yellow cards for fouls by Casseres in the 46th minute and Kemar Lawrence in the 48th minute. The Black and Gold retook the lead with a Vela penalty kick goal in the 61st minute. Los Angeles extended the lead as Eddie Segura scored, thanks to Vela in the 72nd minute. Alex Muyl of New York had a yellow card for a 76th minute foul. The final stayed at 4-2 with Vela named man of the match.

A four-game weekend begins on Saturday with...

Chicago's Danielle Colaprico received a yellow card for a 46th minute foul. In the 64th minute, Rose Lavelle of the Spirit earned a yellow card. The Red Stars got going in the 65th minute with a Yuki Nagasato goal, made possible by Casey Short. The final stood at 1-0, with Nagasato as the woman of the match.

Down in Orlando, the Pride welcome the Houston Dash. Jane Campbell and Ashlyn Harris are the Americans in goal. Orlando went down to ten women in the 61st minute as Julie King received a straight red card for a last defender foul. The Pride's Marta took a yellow card for dissent in the 74th minute. In the 82nd minute, Houston's Cecelia Kizer had a yellow card for her foul. In the 85th minute, Orlando went down to nine women as Marta was shown a red card for violent conduct. The Dash dented the scoreboard with a Rachel Daly penalty kick goal in the 87th minute, while their captain Kealia Ohai, who drew the penalty, also had a yellow card for dissent at the same time. The Pride's Claire Emslie picked up a yellow card for a foul in stoppage time. The final remained at 1-0, with Ohai earning woman of the match honors.

On Sunday, the Portland Thorns FC bring in the North Carolina Courage. Stephanie Labbe and Adrianna Franch make the starts in goal. North Carolina led off in the 4th minute with a Crystal Dunn goal, assisted by Lynn Williams. Portland's Caitlin Foord received a yellow card for a foul in the 19th minute. The Thorns tied it in the 56th minute with an own goal by Courage keeper Labbe. Portland took the lead in the 82nd minute when Abby Erceg of North Carolina committed an own goal. The Dynamo went down to ten men in the 29th minute with a straight red card issued to Romell Quioto for violent conduct. Memo Rodriguez of Houston took a yellow card for a 38th minute foul. The Pigeons saw yellow cards for fouls by Eric Miller in the 42nd minute and Alexander Ring in first half stoppage time. The Dynamo's Aljaz Struna picked up a yellow card for a 62nd minute foul. Houston pulled ahead in the 77th minute with a Mauro Manotas goal, guided in by Matias Vera. Adam Lundkvist of the Dynamo received a yellow card for his 82nd minute foul. Utah Royals FC hosting Sky Blue FC. Kailen Sheridan and Nicole Barnhart protect the nets. Utah began in the 27th minute with a Christen Press goal on a deflected Lo'eau LaBonta pass. The Royals added on in the 29th minute with another Press goal, assisted by LaBonta. Utah extended the lead in the 48th minute as Amy Rodriguez scored, thanks to Mallory Weber. Sky Blue had yellow cards for a Kenie Wright foul in the 60th minute and dissent by Jen Hoy from the bench in the 61st minute. The final was 3-0, with Press named woman of the match.

Up in Tacoma, Reign FC hosts the Portland Thorns FC. Adrianna Franch and Casey Murphy are the keepers. Reign's Steph Catley had a yellow card for a 31st minute foul. Reign got going in the 55th minute with a Rosie White goal on a rebound. Jodie Taylor of Reign took a yellow card for a 78th minute foul. The final held at 1-0, with the woman of the match being Reign's Lauren Barnes who blocked a handful of Thorns shots.

MLS 2019 - Week 22

Atlanta United FC hosts the Los Angeles Galaxy. David Bingham and Brad Guzan protect the nets. Atlanta received an early gift in the 23rd minute on an own goal by Los Angeles' Dave Romney. The Five Stripes added on with another Galaxy own goal, this time by Giancarlo Gonzalez in the 43rd minute. Los Angeles saw yellow cards for fouls by Rolf Feltscher in the 52nd minute and Gonzalez in the 71st minute. Atlanta extended the lead in the 75th minute as Josef Martinez converted a penalty kick goal. Gonzalo Martinez of the Five Stripes took a yellow card for a 75th minute foul. Julian Araujo of the Galaxy picked up a yellow card for his 89th minute foul. The game ended at 3-0, with Guzan's four-save clean sheet enough to earn him man of the match honors.

Up north, the New York Red Bulls welcome Toronto FC. Quentin Westberg and Luis Robles man the nets. New York took a gift in the 55th minute when Toronto's Chris Mavinga was charged with an own goal. Colorado took the lead in the 36th minute when Kamara converted a penalty kick. The Rapids added on in first half stoppage time with another Kamara goal, set up by Andre Shinyashiki. Three minutes later, Colorado extended the lead as Diego Rubio scored, with the help of Jack Price. Clint Irwin replaced Howard in the Rapids' goal at the start of the second half, which was deemed a precautionary change. Montreal got one back with a Maximiliano Urruti goal in the 55th minute, courtesy of Mathieu Choiniere. Lalas Abubakar of the Rapids received a yellow card for a 56th minute foul, as did teammate Kellyn Acosta in the 75th minute. The Impact pulled another one back with a Saphir Taider penalty kick goal in the 76th minute. Colorado countered with a Shinyashiki goal in the 78th minute, fueled by Price. Montreal's Ken Krolicki picked up a yellow card for an 83rd minute foul. The Rapids padded the lead with Kamara finishing his hat trick into the correct net, with a helper from Price. This made it 6-3, the final, with Kamara's crazy night making him man of the match.

Southeast to Houston, where the Dynamo host the Chicago Fire. Kenneth Kronholm and Tyler Deric protect the nets. Alberth Elis of Houston had a yellow card for his 44th minute foul. Chicago began in first half stoppage time with a Nemanja Nikolic goal, assisted by Nicolas Gaitan. The Dynamo's Matias Vera received a yellow card for a 46th minute foul. The Fire's Brandt Bronico picked up a yellow card for a 53rd minute foul, as did teammate Dax McCarty in the 67th minute. The final remained at 1-0, with the man of the match being Kronholm for his four-save clean sheet.

Salt Lake tied it in the 37th minute on a Jefferson Savarino goal, coming off of Kyle Beckerman and Albert Rusnak. Everton Luiz of Real received a yellow card in first half stoppage time for his foul. Salt Lake's Beckerman earned a yellow card for a foul in the 68th minute. New York City saw a yellow card for a Ring foul in the 74th minute. Real took the lead in the 75th minute on a Rusnak goal, assisted by Beckerman. Salt Lake added on in the 88th minute with a Nick Besler goal, helped along by Savarino. In second half stoppage time, Ronald Matarrita of the Pigeons was booked for a foul. The final held at 3-1, with the man of the match honors given to Beckerman.

Saturday's finale is in San Jose, where the Earthquakes bring in the Columbus Crew SC. Eloy Room is mismatched with Daniel Vega in goal. San Jose drew first blood in the 41st minute on a Magnus Eriksson penalty kick goal. Columbus tied it in the 65th minute with a Gyasi Zardes goal, helped along by Luis Diaz. The Crew's David Accam picked up a yellow card for a 75th minute foul. Eriksson of the Earthquakes received a yellow card in the 83rd minute for his foul. The final was 1-1, with Zardes' equalizer making him the man of the match.

On Sunday, Minnesota United FC hosts the Portland Timbers. Steve Clark and Vito Mannone are in the six-yard boxes. Larrys Mabiala of Portland took a yellow card for a 39th minute foul. The Timbers also saw yellow cards for dissent by the keeper Clark in the 50th minute and fouls by Diego Chara in the 53rd minute and Julio Cascante in the 58th minute. Michael Boxall of Minnesota had a yellow card for his 75th minute foul. The Loons dented the scoreboard with an Ethan Finlay penalty kick goal in stoppage time, which was enough for them to claim the 1-0 win. The man of the match was Mannone for his five-save clean sheet.

Eastward to DC United welcoming the Philadelphia Union. Andre Blake and Bill Hamid tend the twines. Philadelphia cracked the scoresheet in the 3rd minute with an Alejandro Bedoya goal, via Marco Fabian and Andrew Wooten. The Union saw yellow cards for fouls by Haris Medunjanin in the 25th minute and Bedoya in the 31st minute. DC went down to ten men in the 40th minute when Junior Moreno received a straight red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity. Fabian of Philadelphia had a yellow card for his 42nd minute foul. The Union added on with a Fabian goal in first half stoppage time, guided in by Kai Wagner and Medunjanin. Philadelphia extended the lead in the 52nd minute as Kacper Przybylko scored, thanks to Warren Creavalle. Aurelien Collin of the Union picked up a yellow card in the 53rd minute for a foul. The Black and Red got on the board in the 54th minute with a Frederic Brillant goal. Philadelphia responded with another Fabian goal in the 70th minute, coming off of Medunjanin. The Union iced it at 5-1 with a Fabrice-Jean Picault goal in the 90th minute, assisted by Ilsinho and Jamiro Monteiro. The man of the match was Fabian.

Finally, the Seattle Sounders FC bring in Sporting Kansas City. Tim Melia and Stefan Frei patrol the penalty areas. Kansas City got going in the 12th minute with a Felipe Gutierrez goal, assisted by Seth Sinovic. Sporting added on in the 33rd minute with a Gutierrez penalty kick goal. Nouhou of Seattle received a yellow card for persistent infringement in the 35th minute. Kansas City's Sinovic took a yellow card for his 40th minute foul. The Sounders got on the board in the 46th minute with a Jordan Morris goal, set up by Nicolas Lodeiro. Sporting's Gerso earned a yellow card for persistent infringement in the 53rd minute. Saad Abdul-Salaam of Seattle picked up a yellow card for a 55th minute foul. Kansas City replied with an Erik Hurtado goal in the 58th minute, passed from Gerso. Sporting saw a yellow card for a 62nd minute Benny Feilhaber foul. The Sounders' Nicolas Lodeiro was shown a yellow card for a 71st minute foul. Seattle pulled one back with a Morris goal in the 82nd minute, helped along by Handwalla Bwana. This only made it 3-2, the final, with the man of the match being Gutierrez.
