KHL 2016/17 - Day 28

Only four games on today, beginning with...

Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg hosting SKA St. Petersburg. Igor Shestyorkin and Igor Ustinsky are the goalies. St. Petersburg opened in the first period with an Evgeny Ketov goal, guided in by Andrei Zubarev and Ilya Kablukov. Yekaterinburg tied it on a Dmitry Monya goal, assisted by Alexander Torchenyuk and Artyom Gareyev on the power play in the second period. Avtomobilist took the lead with a Petr Koukal power play goal, powered by Dmitry Megalinsky. SKA tied it on an Alexander Barabanov goal, passed from Yegor Yakovlev. The tie went to a shootout, where Rok Ticar and Koukal lifted Yekaterinburg to the 3-2 win over SKA's lone tally from Barabanov. The three stars were Koukal, Barabanov, and Monya.

Westward to Belarus, where Dinamo Minsk welcomes Avangard Omsk. Dominik Furch and Ben Scrivens are in the blue paint. Omsk started in the first period with an Alexander Kucheryavenko goal, assisted by Erik Gustafsson and Alexander Perezhogin. Minsk tied it in the second period with an Alexander Materukhin goal, via Lukas Krajicek and Alexander Kulakov. Avangard retook the lead with a Derek Roy goal in the third period, going in unassisted. The final stood from here at 2-1, with the three stars being Roy, Furch (40 for 41 in saves), and Kucheryavenko.

Next up, Jokerit Helsinki brings in Sibir Novosibirsk. Alexander Salak and Ryan Zapolski make the starts in goal. Novosibirsk led off in the first period with a power play goal by Sergei Shumakov, powered by Maxim Shalunov. Sibir added on with a Stepan Sannikov goal in the second period, going in unassisted. Novosibirsk extended the lead in the third period as Shalunov scored, thanks to Shumakov. Sibir iced it at 4-0 with an unassisted and shorthanded empty net goal from Joonas Kemppainen. The three stars were awarded to Salak (40 save shutout), Shumakov, and Shalunov.

Finally, Dinamo Riga hosts Metallurg Novokuznetsk. Mikhail Biryukov faces a lesser foe in Janis Kalnins in goal. Riga began in the first period with a Nikolajs Jelisejevs goal, coming off of Vitalijs Pavlovs and Mikelis Redlihs. Dinamo added on with a second period Lauris Darzins power play goal, powered by Miks Indrasis and Guntis Galvins. Novokuznetsk got on the board with an Evgeny Solovyov goal, with a lone assist by the goalie Biryukov. Riga shot back on a Gunars Skvorcovs goal, via Kristaps Zile and Krisjanis Redlihs. Dinamo extended the lead as Pyotr Schastlivy scored, with the help of Colton Gillies. Riga padded the lead with a Tim Sestito goal, made possible by Krisjanis Redlihs. The game ended at 5-1, with the three stars being Krisjanis Redlihs, Darzins, and Kalnins (28 for 29 in saves).
