The Chicago Blackhawks hosting the St. Louis Blues. Jake Allen and Corey Crawford protect the nets. Chicago got going in the second period with a Brent Seabrook power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. This held for a 1-0 win for the Blackhawks, with the three stars awarded to Crawford (28 save shutout), Seabrook, and Allen (18 for 19 in saves).
Up in Winnipeg, the Jets welcome the Washington Capitals. Pheonix Copley is mismatched with Connor Hellebuyck in goal. Washington started in the first period with a Jakub Vrana goal, his fifth of the season, coming off of Madison Bowey and Dmitry Orlov. Winnipeg tied it on a Mark Scheifele power play goal in the second period, his tenth of the year, powered by Kyle Connor and Blake Wheeler. The Jets took the lead in the third period on a Ben Chiarot goal, his third of the season, guided in by Brandon Tanev. Winnipeg iced it at 3-1 with an unassisted empty net goal by Connor, his eighth of the year. The three stars were Hellebuyck (27 for 28 in saves), Connor, and Chiarot.
Back stateside, the Colorado Avalanche bring in the Boston Bruins. Jaroslav Halak and Semyon Varlamov are the experienced goalies. Colorado opened in the first period with a Gabriel Landeskog goal, his twelfth of the season, via Mikko Rantanen. Boston tied it with a David Pastrnak power play goal, his seventeenth of the year, powered by David Backes and David Krejci. The Bruins took the lead with a Jake DeBrusk goal, his sixth of the season, going in unassisted. Boston added on in the second period with a DeBrusk power play goal, his second of the game and seventh of the year, passed from Pastrnak and Patrice Bergeron. The Avalanche got one back with a Rantanen power play goal, his seventh of the season, with assists provided by Nathan MacKinnon and Tyson Barrie. Colorado tied it in the third period on an unassisted Matt Calvert goal, his second of the year. The Avalanche took the lead with a MacKinnon goal, his twelfth of the season, guided in by Rantanen and Ian Cole. Colorado extended the lead as Tyson Jost scored his third of the year on the power play, with the help of Samuel Girard and Alexander Kerfoot. The Avalanche iced it at 6-3 with a Kerfoot power play goal, his fourth of the campaign, with helpers from Carl Soderberg and Girard. The three stars went to Rantanen, MacKinnon, and DeBrusk, while Pastrnak, Kerfoot, and Girard get the honorable mentions.
Ending the day, the Vegas Golden Knights host the Anaheim Ducks. John Gibson and Marc-Andre Fleury guard the cages. Vegas struck first in the first period with an Alex Tuch power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by Max Pacioretty and Colin Miller. The Golden Knights added on in the second period with a Cody Eakin goal, his sixth of the year, guided in by Tuch and Pacioretty. Vegas extended the lead as Nick Holden scored his second of the season, an unassisted goal. Ryan Miller replaced Gibson in goal. The Golden Knights padded the lead with a shorthanded Eakin goal, his second of the game and seventh of the year, set up by Ryan Carpenter. Vegas continued with a Tomas Hyka goal in the third period, made possible by Tomas Nosek and Holden. The final stood at 5-0, with the three stars handed to Eakin, Fleury (29 save shutout), and Tuch, while Holden and Pacioretty took the honorable mentions.
