NHL 2018/19 - Day 70

Just four games on today, beginning with...

The New York Islanders hosting the Vegas Golden Knights. Marc-Andre Fleury and Robin Lehner draw the starts in goal. Vegas started in the first period with a Jonathan Marchessault power play goal, his twelfth of the season, powered by Colin Miller and Reilly Smith. New York tied it on an Anthony Beauvillier goal, his ninth of the year, via Johnny Boychuk and Mathew Barzal. The Islanders took the lead on an Adam Pelech goal in the second period, his third of the season, courtesy of Barzal. The Golden Knights tied it on a William Karlsson goal, his eleventh of the year, going in unassisted. Vegas took the lead in the third period with a Tomas Nosek goal, his third of the campaign, coming off of Oscar Lindberg and Ryan Carpenter. This stood for a 3-2 win, with the three stars given to Barzal, Nosek, and Karlsson.

Over in Chicago, the Blackhawks welcome the Pittsburgh Penguins. Casey DeSmith is mismatched with Corey Crawford in goal. Chicago opened in the first period with an Andreas Martinsen goal, assisted by Carl Dahlstrom and Marcus Kruger. The Blackhawks added on with a Brent Seabrook goal, his fourth of the season, passed from Jonathan Toews. Pittsburgh got on the board with a Bryan Rust goal, his second of the year, going in unassisted. The Penguins tied it in the second period with a Rust goal, his second of the game and third of the season, with a lone assist from Derek Grant. Chicago regained the lead on an Alex DeBrincat power play goal, his thirteenth of the year, powered by Patrick Kane and Seabrook. Pittsburgh retied it on a Rust goal, his fourth of the season completing his hat trick with helpers from Olli Maatta and Zach Aston-Reese. The Blackhawks again retook the lead in the third period with a Kruger goal, his fourth of the year, fueled by Martinsen and Duncan Keith. Chicago extended the lead as Toews scored an empty net goal, his fourteenth of the season, made possible by Brandon Saad. The Blackhawks iced it at 6-3 with a Saad empty net goal, his ninth of the year, set up by Toews. The three stars belonged to Toews, Rust, and Martinsen, while Seabrook, Kruger, and Saad get the honorable mentions.

Northwest to Calgary, as the Flames bring in the Philadelphia Flyers. Anthony Stolarz and Mike Smith are in the creases. Calgary led off in the first period with a Sam Bennett goal, his fifth of the season, passed from Matthew Tkachuk and Alan Quine. Philadelphia tied it in the second period on a Travis Sanheim goal, his third of the year, guided in by Claude Giroux. The Flames retook the lead on a Mark Giordano shorthanded goal, his fourth of the season, set up by Travis Hamonic and Derek Ryan. The Flyers tied it with a James van Riemsdyk power play goal, his third of the year, powered by Sean Couturier and Giroux. Philadelphia pulled ahead with a Couturier goal, his eleventh of the season, fueled by Jakub Voracek and Ivan Provorov. The Flyers added on with a Dale Weise goal, his fourth of the year, with helpers from Radko Gudas and Robert Hagg. Calgary got one back with a Sean Monahan power play goal, his nineteenth of the season, with assists provided by Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau. Philadelphia answered in the third period with a shorthanded and unassisted Couturier goal, his second of the game and twelfth of the year. The Flames replied with a Rasmus Andersson goal, assisted by Gaudreau and Tkachuk, the latter earning a sock trick. Calgary tied it as Monahan scored his second of the game and twentieth of the season, thanks to Tkachuk and Giordano. The Flames won 6-5 in overtime with a Gaudreau goal, his thirteenth of the year, helped along by Giordano and Monahan. The three stars went to Monahan, Gaudreau, and Tkachuk, while Couturier, Giordano, and Giroux take the honorable mentions.

Finally, the Anaheim Ducks host the Dallas Stars. Ben Bishop and John Gibson tend the twines. Anaheim began in the first period with an Ondrej Kase goal, his sixth of the season, with a lone assist from Pontus Aberg. Dallas tied it on a Miro Heiskanen power play goal, his sixth of the year, powered by Jason Spezza and Esa Lindell in the second period. The Stars pulled ahead on a Blake Comeau goal, his third of the season, via Devin Shore and Jason Dickinson. Dallas added on with an Alexander Radulov power play goal, his tenth of the year, with assists provided by Taylor Fedun and Shore. The Ducks got one back with a Kase goal, his second of the game and seventh of the season, passed from Ryan Getzlaf. Anaheim tied it as Kase completed his hat trick in the third period with his eighth of the year, with the help of Nick Ritchie and Brandon Montour. The Ducks went ahead on a Montour goal, his fifth of the season, coming off of Getzlaf. Anaheim extended the lead as Jakob Silfverberg scored his ninth of the year, thanks to Andrew Cogliano and Montour. The Ducks padded the lead with a Hampus Lindholm empty net goal, his fourth of the campaign, set up by Montour. This made it 6-3, the final, with the three stars handed to Kase, Montour, and Getzlaf, while Shore gets an honorable mention.
