The Carolina Hurricanes hosting the Washington Capitals. Braden Holtby and Petr Mrazek are the goalies. Carolina started in the first period with a Warren Foegele goal, assisted by Justin Faulk and Brock McGinn. The Hurricanes added on in the second period with another Foegele goal, passed from Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen. Carolina extended the lead as Dougie Hamilton scored on the power play, with the help of Jordan Staal and Jaccob Slavin. The Hurricanes padded the lead with another Hamilton power play goal, powered by Slavin and Foegle in the third period. Carolina iced it at 5-0 with a McGinn goal, coming off of Staal and Jordan Martinook. The three stars belonged to Foegele, Hamilton, and McGinn, while Staal and Slavin get the honorable mentions. The Hurricanes have cut the Capitals' lead to 2-1.
Up in Toronto, the Maple Leafs welcome the Boston Bruins. Tuukka Rask and Frederik Andersen man the nets. Toronto got going in the second period with a Trevor Moore goal, via Morgan Rielly and Tyler Ennis. Boston tied it on a David Krejci goal, passed from Jake DeBrusk and Karson Kuhlman. The Maple Leafs retook the lead on an Auston Matthews power play goal, powered by Andreas Johnsson and Mitchell Marner. The Maple Leafs added on with a Johnsson power play goal, with assists provided by John Tavares and Matthews. The Bruins pulled back with a Charlie Coyle goal, his second of the postseason, coming on the power play from Danton Heinen and Matt Grzelcyk. This only made it 3-2, the eventual final, with the three stars handed to Johnsson, Matthews, and Andersen (34 for 36 in saves). The Maple Leafs pull ahead at 2-1 in the series.
Far to the south, the Dallas Stars bring in the Nashville Predators. Pekka Rinne and Ben Bishop tend the twines. Nashville dented the scoreboard in the second period with a Rocco Grimaldi goal, his second of the postseason, coming off of P.K. Subban and Miikka Salomaki. The Predators added on with a Filip Forsberg goal, courtesy of Nick Bonino. Dallas got on the board with a Mats Zuccarello goal, his second of the playoffs, via John Klingberg. The Stars tied it in the third period on a Tyler Seguin goal, guided in by Jamie Benn and Alexander Radulov. Nashville retook the lead with a Mikael Granlund goal, made possible by Dante Fabbro and Kyle Turris. This stood for the 3-2 final, with the three stars going to Granlund, Rinne (40 for 42 in saves), and Forsberg. The Predators took a 2-1 series lead.
Finally, the Colorado Avalanche host the Calgary Flames. Mike Smith and Philipp Grubauer play in the creases. Colorado opened in the first period with a Nathan MacKinnon power play goal, his second of the postseason, powered by Tyson Barrie and J.T. Compher. The Avalanche added on with another MacKinnon power play goal, his second of the game and third of the playoffs, fueled by Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog. Colorado extended the lead as Cale Makar scored, thanks to MacKinnon and Alexander Kerfoot. The Avalanche padded the lead with a shorthanded Matt Nieto goal, his second of the postseason, set up by Ian Cole and Erik Johnson. Calgary got on the board with a Sam Bennett power play goal, with a lone helper by Rasmus Andersson. Colorado replied with a Rantanen goal, with a lone helper by Colin Wilson. The Avalanche continued in the third period with a Johnson goal, guided in by Cole and Nieto. The Flames got one back on a T.J. Brodie goal, made possible by Noah Hanifin and Sean Monahan. This only made it 6-2, the final, with the three stars given to MacKinnon, Nieto, and Rantanen, while Johnson and Cole get the honorable mentions. The Avalanche have pulled ahead 2-1 in the series.
