NHL 2019-20 - Day 76

Five games on Monday night, beginning with...

The Columbus Blue Jackets hosting the Washington Capitals. Braden Holtby and Joonas Korpisalo are in goal. Columbus led off in the first period with an Eric Robinson goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Alexandre Texier and David Savard. The Blue Jackets added on in the third period with an Oliver Bjorkstrand goal, his eighth of the year, passed from Gustav Nyquist and Boone Jenner. Columbus extended the lead as Bjorkstrand scored again, his second of the game and ninth of the campaign, thanks to Scott Harrington and Andrew Peeke. This made it 3-0, the final, with the three stars being Korpisalo (30 save shutout), Bjorkstrand, and Robinson.

Over in New York, the Rangers welcome the Nashville Predators. Juuse Saros and Alexandar Georgiev are the backups in goal. Nashville began in the first period with a Rocco Grimaldi goal, his fourth of the season, made possible by Roman Josi and Ryan Ellis. New York tied it on a Chris Kreider goal, his eighth of the year, guided in by Mika Zibanejad. The Predators took the lead back in the second period with a Josi goal, his eighth of the season, assisted by Dan Hamhuis and Kyle Turris. Nashville added on with a Mattias Ekholm goal, his fifth of the year, fueled by Nick Bonino. The Rangers got one back with an Artemi Panarin goal, his twentieth of the season, helped along by Zibanejad and Adam Fox in the third period. The Predators replied with a Josi empty net goal, his second of the game and ninth of the year, going in unassisted. Nashville iced it at 5-2 with an Ellis empty net goal, his fifth of the campaign, set up by Austin Watson. The three stars were Josi, Ellis, and Zibanejad.

Down in Florida, the Panthers host the Ottawa Senators. Anders Nilsson and Sergei Bobrovsky make the starts in goal. Florida opened in the first period with a Noel Acciari goal, his sixth of the season, via Keith Yandle and Jonathan Huberdeau. The Panthers added on in the second period with another Acciari goal, his second of the game and seventh of the year, coming off of Huberdeau. Ottawa got on the board with an Artem Anisimov goal, his fifth of the season, assisted by Tyler Ennis and Logan Brown. Florida replied with an Aleksander Barkov power play goal, his eleventh of the year, powered by Huberdeau. The Panthers extended the lead as Acciari completed his hat trick on his eighth of the season, thanks to MacKenzie Weegar and Aaron Ekblad. Florida padded the lead on a Mike Matheson goal, his second of the year, helped along by Huberdeau. The Panthers continued with a Dominic Toninato goal, his third of the campaign, with a lone assist by Ekblad. This stood for a 6-1 win, with the three stars given to Acciari, Huberdeau, and Ekblad.

Northwest to St. Louis, where the Blues bring in the Colorado Avalanche. Philipp Grubauer and Jordan Binnington tend the twines. St. Louis started in the first period with a David Perron goal, his thirteenth of the season, courtesy of Ryan O'Reilly and Oskar Sundqvist. Colorado tied it in the second period with a Nazem Kadri goal, his eleventh of the year, via Ryan Graves. The Avalanche took the lead with a Mikko Rantnaen power play goal, his ninth of the season, powered by Samuel Girard and Nathan MacKinnon. The Blues retied it on a Perron power play goal, his second of the game and fourteenth of the year, with assists provided by Alex Pietrangelo and Jaden Schwartz. St. Louis took the lead with a Vince Dunn goal, his fifth of the season, made possible by Tyler Bozak and Justin Faulk. The Blues added on with a Jordan Kyrou goal, going in unassisted. St. Louis iced it at 5-2 with a Perron empty net goal to complete his hat trick on his fifteenth of the year, set up by Sundqvist and O'Reilly. The three stars were Perron, Sundqvist, and O'Reilly.

Finally, the Dallas Stars host the Edmonton Oilers. Mikko Koskinen and Ben Bishop guard the cages. Edmonton struck first in the first period with a Zack Kassian goal, his twelfth of the season, assisted by Connor McDavid and Darnell Nurse. The Oilers added on with a Leon Draisaitl power play goal, his twenty-first of the year, powered by Alex Chiasson and McDavid. Dallas got on the board with a Tyler Seguin goal in the third period, his seventh of the campaign, coming off of Joe Pavelski and Alexander Radulov. This only made it 2-1, the final, with the three stars being Koskinen (34 for 35 in saves), McDavid, and Draisaitl.
