NHL 2019-20 - Day 80

Only four games on for Friday, beginning with...

The Florida Panthers hosting the Dallas Stars. Ben Bishop and Sergei Bobrovsky tend the twines. Florida started in the first period with a Jonathan Huberdeau power play goal, his twelfth of the season, powered by Aleksander Barkov and Evgenii Dadonov. Dallas tied it on a Denis Gurianov goal, his seventh of the year, assisted by Corey Perry and John Klingberg. The Panthers retook the lead on an Anton Stralman goal, his third of the season, passed from Frank Vatrano and Barkov. Florida added on in the second period with a Vincent Trocheck goal, his fifth of the year, via Huberdeau and Noel Acciari. The Panthers extended the lead as Colton Sceviour scored his third of the season, thanks to Dominic Toninato. Florida padded the lead on an Acciari goal, his ninth of the year, courtesy of Trocheck and Huberdeau. The Panthers chased Bishop with another Acciari goal, his second of the game and tenth of the season, with helpers from Trocheck and Huberdeau. Anton Khudobin replaced Bishop in goal. Florida kept going with an Acciari shorthanded penalty shot goal to complete his natural hat trick with his eleventh of the year. The Stars got one back with a Tyler Seguin power play goal, his ninth of the season, with assists provided by Esa Lindell and Roope Hintz. Dallas got closer in the third period with another Seguin goal, his second of the game and tenth of the year, helped along by Joe Pavelski. The Stars chipped closer on a Jamie Benn goal, his eighth of the season, dished from Miro Heiskanen and Perry. This only made it 7-4, the final, with the three stars awarded to Acciari, Huberdeau, and Trocheck, while Seguin, Barkov, and Perry earn the honorable mentions.

Up in New Jersey, the Devils welcome the Washington Capitals. Ilya Samsonov and MacKenzie Blackwood are in the creases. New Jersey opened in the first period with a Kyle Palmieri power play goal, his fourteenth of the season, powered by Nico Hischier and P.K. Subban. Washington tied it on an Alex Ovechkin goal, his twenty-second of the year, via Nicklas Backstrom and Tom Wilson. The Capitals took the lead with a Backstrom goal, his seventh of the season, coming off of Wilson and John Carlson. The Devils retied it in the second period with a Blake Coleman goal, his tenth of the year, with a lone assist by Nikita Gusev. Washington regained the lead with another Backstrom goal, his second of the game and eighth of the season, assisted by Dmitry Orlov and Ovechkin. The Capitals added on in the third period with a Carlson goal, his thirteenth of the year, courtesy of Michal Kempny and Backstrom. Washington extended the lead as Jonas Siegenthaler scored his second of the season, thanks to Radko Gudas and Nic Dowd. Blackwood was replaced by Gilles Senn in goal. The Capitals padded the lead on a Richard Panik goal, his third of the year, guided in by Lars Eller and Carl Hagelin. New Jersey got one back with a Miles Wood goal, his fourth of the campaign, helped along by Damon Severson and Gusev. The three stars of the 6-3 game belonged to Backstrom, Carlson, and Ovechkin, while Wilson and Gusev get the honorable mentions.

Over in Manhattan, the New York Rangers bring in the Toronto Maple Leafs. Frederik Andersen and Alexandar Georgiev are the goalies. Toronto led off in the first period with a Pierre Engvall goal, his second of the season, coming off of Justin Holl and Ilya Mikheyev. The Maple Leafs added on with a William Nylander goal, his twelfth of the year, with a lone assist by Kasperi Kapanen. New York got one back with a Brady Skjei goal, his fifth of the season, courtesy of Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider. The Rangers tied it on a Ryan Strome goal, his seventh of the year, fueled by Artemi Panarin and Pavel Buchnevich. Toronto regained the lead with a Mitchell Marner power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by Auston Matthews and Nylander. New York tied it again with a Buchnevich goal, his sixth of the year, helped along by Marc Staal and Tony DeAngelo. The Maple Leafs retook the lead in the third period with a Nylander goal, his second of the game and thirteenth of the season, passed from Matthews and Travis Dermott. Toronto extended the lead as Marner scored his second of the game and eighth of the year, an unassisted goal. The Maple Leafs padded the lead on an Ilya Mikheyev goal, his seventh of the season, guided in by Alexander Kerfoot. The final was 6-3, with the three stars handed to Nylander, Marner, and Buchnevich, while Matthews gets an honorable mention.

Finally, the Edmonton Oilers host the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tristan Jarry and Mike Smith are between the pipes. Pittsburgh began in the first period with a Chad Ruhwedel goal, his second of the season, assisted by Dominik Kahun and Zach Aston-Reese. The Penguins added on with a Joseph Blandisi goal, his second of the year, courtesy of Aston-Reese and Marcus Pettersson. Edmonton got on the board in the second period with a Zack Kassian goal, his thirteenth of the season, fueled by Darnell Nurse and Ethan Bear. Pittsburgh shot back with a Jared McCann goal, his tenth of the year, going in unassisted. The Oilers pulled back with a shorthanded Riley Sheahan goal, his second of the season, set up by Josh Archibald. The Penguins replied in the third period with a Kris Letang power play goal, his ninth of the year, powered by Evgeni Malkin and Bryan Rust. Pittsburgh iced it at 5-2 with a Brandon Tanev empty net goal, his seventh of the campaign, set up by Pettersson and Teddy Blueger. The three stars were Aston-Reese, Jarry (26 for 28 in saves), and Pettersson.
