NHL 2019-20 - Day 78

Just three games on today, beginning with...

The New Jersey Devils hosting the Anaheim Ducks. Ryan Miller and MacKenzie Blackwood are set to start in goal. Anaheim began in the first period with an Adam Henrique goal, his tenth of the season, coming off of Ondrej Kase and Cam Fowler. New Jersey tied it on a Nico Hischier goal, his sixth of the year, with a lone assist by Jesper Bratt in the second period. The Devils took the lead with a Kyle Palmieri power play goal, his thirteenth of the season, powered by Nikita Gusev and Will Butcher. New Jersey added on with a Sami Vatanen goal, his fifth of the year, via Jack Hughes. The final stayed at 3-1, with the three stars being Blackwood (26 for 27 in saves), Palmieri, and Vatanen.

West to Chicago, where the Blackhawks welcome the Colorado Avalanche. Pavel Francouz and Corey Crawford are the goalies. Colorado led off in the first period with an Ian Cole goal, his second of the season, made possible by Gabriel Landeskog and Nikita Zadorov. Chicago tied it on a Ryan Carpenter goal, his second of the year, via Alex DeBrincat. The Avalanche retook the lead in the second period with a Nathan MacKinnon goal, his twenty-first of the season, assisted by Mikko Rantanen and Anton Lindholm. Colorado added on with an Andre Burakovsky goal, his thirteenth of the year, going in unassisted. The Avalanche extended the lead as Rantanen scored an empty net goal, his tenth of the season, set up Landeskog and Cole. The final remained at 4-1, with the three stars given to Francouz (31 for 32 in saves), Cole, and Rantanen, while Landeskog gets an honorable mention.

Finally, the St. Louis Blues bring in the Edmonton Oilers. Mikko Koskiken and Jake Allen are in the creases. St. Louis got going in the second period with a Brayden Schenn goal, his fifteenth of the season, made possible by Vince Dunn and Jaden Schwartz. The Blues added on with a MacKenzie MacEachern goal in the third period, his sixth of the year, courtesy of Ryan O'Reilly and David Perron. Edmonton got on the board with a James Neal goal, his sixteenth of the campaign, passed from Zack Kassian and Leon Draisaitl. This only made it 2-1, the final, with the three stars awarded to Allen (35 for 36 in saves), MacEachern, and Schenn.
