MLS 2019 - Week 29

A full weekend of games awaits, beginning with...

Atlanta United FC hosting the San Jose Earthquakes. Daniel Vega and Brad Guzan protect the nets. Atlanta began in the 4th minute with a Justin Meram goal. Emerson Hyndman of the Five Stripes took a yellow card for a 14th minute foul. Cristian Espinoza of San Jose had a yellow card for not retreating in the 16th minute. Atlanta's Meram received a yellow card for a 24th minute foul. The Earthquakes got on the board in the 27th minute with a Guzan own goal. San Jose went down to ten men in the 34th minute when Espinoza took a second yellow card for a foul. The Earthquakes drew yellow cards for Vega's time wasting in the 48th minute and persistent infringement by Judson in the 62nd minute. The Five Stripes pulled ahead in the 90th minute on a Hyndman goal, passed from Darlington Nagbe. In stoppage time, Chris Wondolowski of San Jose took a straight red card for language. Atlanta iced it at 3-1 with a Gonzalo Martinez goal a minute later, set up by Brandon Vazquez and Hector Villalba. The man of the match was Hyndman.

Way northwest to Vancouver, as the Whitecaps FC welcome the Columbus Crew SC. Eloy Room and Zac MacMath are the goalies. Vancouver's MacMath took a yellow card for a 17th minute foul. Columbus led off in the 18th minute with a Gyasi Zardes penalty kick goal. The Whitecaps saw yellow cards for fouls by Tosaint Ricketts in the 35th minute and Ali Adnan in first half stoppage time. Vancouver tied it on a Fredy Montero goal in second half stoppage time, assisted by Adnan. The final was 1-1, with MacMath's seven-for-eight save performance good enough for man of the match.

Back east, FC Cincinnati brings in the Chicago Fire. Kenneth Kronholm and Przemyslaw Tyton get the starts in goal. Cincinnati's Kendall Waston took a yellow card for a 20th minute foul. Chicago saw yellow cards for fouls by C.J. Sapong and Dax McCarty in the 25th and 30th minutes, respectively. The final remained at 0-0, with the man of the match being Kronholm for his three-save clean sheet.

Further east, the New England Revolution host Real Salt Lake. Andrew Putna is mismatched with Matt Turner in goal. New England saw a yellow card for a foul by Antonio Mlinar Delamea in the 46th minute. Salt Lake's keeper Putna took a yellow card for time wasting in the 87th minute. It didn't prevent Putna from taking the man of the match honors in his three-save clean sheet.

Southwest to Houston, as the Dynamo welcome Orlando City SC. Brian Rowe and Joe Willis are between the sticks. Orlando City opened in the 6th minute with a Dom Dwyer goal, via Mauricio Pereyra. Cristian Higuita took a yellow card for the Lions in the 59th minute. Houston tied it in the 70th minute with an Alberth Elis goal, passed from Christian Ramirez and Memo Rodriguez. The Dynamo took the lead with a Ramirez goal in the 73rd minute, assisted by Mauro Manotas. The final held at 2-1, with the man of the match being Ramirez.

Up to Sporting Kansas City bringing in the Colorado Rapids. Clint Irwin and Tim Melia are set to start in goal. Kansas City started in the 3rd minute with a Gerso goal. Matt Besler of Sporting had a yellow card for an 8th minute foul. In the 14th minute, Kansas City added on as Colorado's Tommy Smith committed an own goal. The Rapids' Sam Nicholson took a yellow card for an 18th minute foul. Sporting went down to ten men in the 20th minute when Besler took a second yellow card for a foul. Kansas City's Luis Martins had a yellow card for dissent in the 30th minute. Colorado got on the board with a Kei Kamara goal in the 42nd minute, made possible by Jack Price. Keegan Rosenberrry of the Rapids received a yellow card for his 43rd minute foul. Colorado tied it in the 76th minute with a Diego Rubio goal, guided in by Smith. The Rapids' Rubio had a yellow card for an 83rd minute foul. Colorado took the lead in the 85th minute on a Smith goal, helped along by Price. Lalas Abubakar of the Rapids took a yellow card for a foul in stoppage time. The final was 3-2, with the man of the match being Price.

In California, the Los Angeles Galaxy host the Montreal Impact. Evan Bush and David Bingham are the veteran keepers. Los Angeles saw a yellow card for a Jonathan dos Santos foul in the 29th minute. The Galaxy struck first in the 31st minute with a Zlatan Ibrahimovic goal, via Uriel Antuna. Montreal tied it in the 48th minute with a Lassi Lappalainen goal, set up by Saphir Taider. Los Angeles retook the lead with an Antuna goal, made possible by Ibrahimovic and Cristian Pavon. The final was 2-1, and Antuna was honored as man of the match.

Saturday ends with Los Angeles FC welcoming Toronto FC. Quentin Westberg and Tyler Miller man the nets. Toronto was first to score in the 19th minute with a Tsubasa Endoh goal, fueled by Jozy Altidore. Los Angeles' Steven Beitashour took a yellow card for a 43rd minute foul. The Reds' Richie Laryea saw a yellow card for a foul in stoppage time. The Black and Gold tied it with a Carlos Vela penalty kick goal five minutes later. The final was 1-1, with Westberg (four-for-five in saves) getting the nod as man of the match.

On Sunday, the Portland Timbers bring in Minnesota United FC. Vito Mannone and Steve Clark are in goal. Portland's Zarek Valentin had a yellow card for a 78th minute foul. The final remained as it started at 0-0, with Mannone posting a 12-save shutout for man of the match honors.

Southeast to Texas, where FC Dallas hosts New York City FC. Sean Johnson and Jesse Gonzalez are between the pipes. New York City drew first blood in the 1st minute with a Valentin Castellanos goal, via Anton Tinnerholm and Maximiliano Moralez. Keaton Parks of the Pigeons had a yellow card for a 13th minute foul. Dallas saw a yellow card for persistent infringement by Zdenek Ondrasek in first half stoppage time. The Toros' Bryan Acosta took a yellow card for a foul in the 61st minute. Dallas tied it in the 66th minute with an Ondrasek goal. New York City received yellow cards for a Moralez foul in the 68th minute and time wasting by Maxime Chanot in second half stoppage time. The final remained at 1-1, with Ondrasek as the man of the match.

Next up, the New York Red Bulls welcome the Philadelphia Union. Andre Blake and Luis Robles are the keepers. New York dented the scoreboard in the 32nd minute with a Tom Barlow goal. The Red Bulls saw a yellow card for a Marc Rzatkowski foul in the 60th minute. New York added on in stoppage time with a Daniel Royer goal, via Bradley Wright-Phillips and Alejandro Romero Gamarra. The final was 2-0, with the man of the match being Royer.

Finally, DC United brings in the Seattle Sounders FC. Stefan Frei and Bill Hamid are the strong keepers. DC got going in the 14th minute with a Lucas Rodriguez goal. Seattle's Kelvin Leerdam took a yellow card for a 53rd minute foul. The Black and Red added on with a Frederic Brillant goal in the 54th minute, set up by Wayne Rooney. The final stood at 2-0, with the man of the match being Rodriguez.

NWSL 2019 - Week 22

All four games this weekend are on Saturday, beginning with...

The Chicago Red Stars hosting the Washington Spirit. Aubrey Bledsoe and Alyssa Naeher protect the nets. Chicago opened in the 9th minute with a Sam Kerr goal, via Katie Johnson. The Red Stars added on in the 23rd minute with a Yuki Nagasato goal, passed from Kerr and Johnson. Chicago extended the lead as Kerr scored again in the 49th minute, thanks to Nagasato. In the 53rd minute, Washington's Paige Nielsen had a yellow card for a foul, as did teammates Sam Staab in the 62nd minute and Meggie Dougherty Howard in the 65th minute. The Spirit got on the board with a Mallory Pugh goal in the 80th minute, coming off of Staab and Nielsen. The final was 3-1, with the woman of the match being Kerr.

Out west, the Utah Royals FC welcome the North Carolina Courage. Stephanie Labbe and Nicole Barnhart guard the woodwork. North Carolina started in the 30th minute with a Samantha Mewis penalty kick goal. In the 35th minute, Denise O'Sullivan received a yellow card for her foul for the Courage. North Carolina added on in the 65th minute with a Jaelene Hinkle goal. The Courage extended the lead in the 70th minute as Debinha scored, thanks to Crystal Dunn. This made it 3-0, the final, with the woman of the match being Hinkle.

Northwest to Tacoma, as Reign FC brings in Sky Blue FC. Kailen Sheridan and Casey Murphy are the young keepers. Sky Blue's Imani Dorsey took a yellow card for a handball in the 43rd minute. Sky Blue's Carli Lloyd received a yellow card for a 50th minute foul. Sky Blue got going in the 77th minute with a Lloyd goal, set up by Nahomi Kawasumi. This stood for a 1-0 win, with the woman of the match being Lloyd.

Finally, the Portland Thorns FC hosts the Houston Dash. Jane Campbell and Adrianna Franch draw the starts in goal. Portland dented the scoreboard in the 48th minute with a Tobin Heath goal, set up by Lindsey Horan. The final stayed at 1-0, with Heath named woman of the match.

MLS Midweek - September 18, 2019

Three games on at midweek this time, beginning with...

FC Cincinnati hosting Atlanta United FC. Brad Guzan and Przemyslaw Tyton are the goalies. Atlanta's Justin Meram had a yellow card for a 14th minute foul. Franco Escobar of the Five Stripes took a yellow card for dissent in the 49th minute. Atlanta got going in the 59th minute with a Josef Martinez goal, assisted by Gonzalo Martinez. The Five Stripes added on with a Josef Martinez goal in the 65th minute, made possible by Julian Gressel. Atlanta's Leandro Gonzalez Pirez had a yellow card for a 66th minute foul. In stoppage time, Caleb Stanko of Cincinnati picked up a yellow card for his foul. The final held at 2-0, with the man of the match being Josef Martinez.

Out west, the Portland Timbers welcome the New York Red Bulls. Luis Robles and Steve Clark protect the nets. New York struck first in the 3rd minute with a Kyle Duncan goal, via Josh Sims and Marc Rzatkowski. Portland saw yellow cards for fouls by Diego Chara in the 76th minute and Jorge Moreira in stoppage time. Later in stoppage time, the Red Bulls added on with a Daniel Royer penalty kick goal. The final was 2-0, with Duncan named man of the match.

Finally, the Seattle Sounders FC bring in FC Dallas. Jesse Gonzalez and Stefan Frei are the gloved men. Seattle's Xavier Arreaga had a yellow card for a 24th minute foul. In the 67th minute, Dallas saw a yellow card for a Ryan Hollingshead foul. The Sounders went down to ten men in the 86th minute when Arreaga picked up a second yellow card for a foul. Seattle's Kim Kee-hee took a yellow card for a foul in stoppage time. The game remained a scoreless draw, with the man of the match title going to Matt Hedges for his strong defensive effort.

The North Carolina Courage welcoming the Houston Dash. Jane Campbell and Stephanie Labbe protect the nets. Houston's Rachel Daly had a yellow card for a 73rd minute foul, as did teammates Amber Brooks in the 74th minute and Kristie Mewis for dissent in the 86th minute. North Carolina got going in the 87th minute with a Samantha Mewis penalty kick goal. The final held at 1-0, with the woman of the matching being Campbell, who went four for five in saves despite the loss.

A near-even split between two weekend days is the way it'll work this weekend. Leading off...

San Jose led off in the 20th minute with a Chris Wondolowski goal, assisted by Valeri Qazaishvili and Magnus Eriksson. New York City tied it in the 40th minute with a Keaton Parks goal. The Pigeons took the lead with an Alexandru Mitrita goal, via Ismael Tajouri-Shradi in the 43rd minute. Shea Salinas of the Earthquakes had a yellow card for a 47th minute foul. New York City's Alexander Callens received a yellow card for a 55th minute foul. Eriksson of San Jose took a yellow card for a 76th minute foul. In stoppage time, Pigeons keeper Johnson picked up a yellow card for time wasting. The final was 2-1, with the man of the match being Johnson for going six for seven in saves.

Westward to Chicago, as the Fire welcome FC Dallas. Jesse Gonzalez and Kenneth Kronholm are in goal. Paxton Pomykal of Dallas had a yellow card for a 5th minute foul. Chicago began in the 7th minute with a C.J. Sapong goal. The Fire added on with a Przemyslaw Frankowski goal in the 16th minute, set up by Brandt Bronico. Chicago extended the lead as Sapong scored again in the 29th minute, thanks to Nicolas Gaitan. The Fire padded the lead on a Nemanja Nikolic goal, coming off of Frankowski in the 39th minute. This held for the 4-0 win, with the man of the match being Sapong for his brace.

New England got an early gift in the form of an own goal by Orlando City's Tesho Akindele. The Lions' Kyle Smith picked up a yellow card for a 21st minute foul. Orlando City tied it in the 22nd minute with a Nani goal, via Mauricio Pereyra. The Revolution retook the lead in the 35th minute with a Cristian Penilla goal, courtesy of Carles Gil. New England added on in the 41st minute with a Gustavo Bou goal, coming off of Gil. The Lions pulled one back on a Dom Dwyer goal in the 47th minute, set up by Nani. Orlando City tied it with another Nani goal in the 54th minute. The Lions saw yellow cards for fouls by Robin Jansson in the 60th minute and Cristian Higuita in the 88th minute. In the 90th minute, the Revolution's Antonio Mlinar Delamea had a yellow card for a foul. The final stood at 3-3, with Nani given man of the match honors.

North again to Philadelphia, where the Union bring in Los Angeles FC. Tyler Miller and Andre Blake draw the starts in goal. Philadelphia struck first in the 3rd minute with a Kacper Przybylko goal, assisted by Fabrice-Jean Picault and Alejandro Bedoya. Los Angeles tied it in the 43rd minute on a Carlos Vela goal. The Black and Gold saw yellow cards for fouls in the second half, assessed to Mark-Anthony Kaye in the 65th minute, Latif Blessing in the 78th minute, Jordan Harvey in the 88th minute, and Walker Zimmerman in the 89th minute. The final remained at 1-1, with Vela named man of the match for securing the road point.

Saturday ends in Vancouver, as the Whitecaps FC host the Houston Dynamo. Joe Willis and Zac MacMath are between the sticks. Ali Adnan of Vancouver had a yellow card for a 30th minute foul. Matias Vera of Houston took a yellow card for his foul in the 42nd minute. The Whitecaps got going in the 54th minute on a Hwang In-Beom penalty kick goal. The Whitecaps reclaimed the lead in the 90th minute on a Fredy Montero goal, made possible by Theo Bair. The final was 2-1, with the man of the match being Manotas despite the loss.

The first of five Sunday games is in Portland, as the Timbers welcome DC United. Bill Hamid and Steve Clark are in the six-yard boxes. DC was first on the board with a gift in the form of an own goal by Portland's Bill Tuiloma in the 25th minute. The Timbers' Eryk Williamson had a yellow card for a 46th minute foul. In the 64th minute, Wayne Rooney of the Black and Red took a yellow card for dissent. The final stayed at 1-0, with Hamid selected as man of the match for his four-save clean sheet.

Diego Rubio of the Rapids received a yellow card for dissent in the 64th minute. The Reds retook the lead with a Jonathan Osorio goal in the 70th minute, made possible by Erickson Gallardo and Marco Delgado. Toronto's Chris Mavinga picked up a yellow card for a foul in the 74th minute. The final was 3-2, with the man of the match being Rosenberry in the losing performance.

Back stateside, Minnesota United FC hosts Real Salt Lake. Nick Rimando and Vito Mannone are the solid keepers. Salt Lake cracked the scoresheet in the 17th minute with an Albert Rusnak goal in the 17th minute. Minnesota tied it in the 20th minute with a Darwin Quintero goal, via Kevin Molino. The Loons took the lead with a 51st minute Quintero goal. Minnesota added on in the 83rd minute with an Ethan Finlay goal, helped along by Romain Metanire. This stood for the 3-1 win, with the man of the match title awarded to Quintero.

Westward to Seattle, as Sounders FC welcomes the New York Red Bulls. Luis Robles and Stefan Frei tend the twines. Seattle kicked off the scoring with a Jordan Morris goal in the 2nd minute. Aaron Long of New York had a yellow card for a 12th minute foul. The Sounders added on with a Nicolas Lodeiro goal in the 23rd minute, helped along by Morris and Cristian Roldan. Michael Murillo of the Red Bulls saw a yellow card for dissent in the 26th minute. New York got on the board in the 27th minute with a Long goal, helped along by Murillo and Bradley Wright-Phillips. Jordy Delem of Seattle received a yellow card for a 38th minute foul. The Red Bulls tied it in the 67th minute with an Alejandro Romero Gamarra goal, passed from Daniel Royer and Marc Rzatkowski. In the 76th minute, New York's Wright-Phillips took a yellow card for a dive. The Sounders regained the lead in the 83rd minute when the Red Bulls' Sean Davis committed an own goal. Seattle's Rolden had a yellow card for an 89th minute handball. The Sounders extended the lead as Lodeiro scored his second of the game in stoppage time, thanks to Roldan and Saad Abdul-Salaam. This made it 4-2, the final, with the man of the match being Lodeiro.

Finally, the Los Angeles Galaxy bring in Sporting Kansas City. Tim Melia and David Bingham are between the sticks. Rolf Feltscher of Los Angeles had a yellow card for a 14th minute foul. Kansas City dented the scoreboard in the 24th minute on a Felipe Gutierrez goal, assisted by Gerso. The Galaxy tied it with a Zlatan Ibrahimovic goal. Sporting saw yellow cards for fouls by Graham Smith in the 43rd minute and Gerso in first half stoppage time. Los Angeles took the lead in the 48th minute with a Joe Corona goal, helped along by Cristian Pavon and Feltscher. The Galaxy added on with an Ibrahimovic goal in the 51st minute, guided in by Feltscher and Sebastian Lletget. Los Angeles extended the lead as Uriel Antuna scored in the 69th minute. Kansas City's Ilie Sanchez took a yellow card for a 76th minute foul. The Galaxy padded the lead as Lletget scored in the 77th minute, thanks to Dave Romney and Corona. Los Angeles continued with another Lletget goal in the 79th minute, fueled by Antuna. The Galaxy kept going with an 85th minute Ibrahimovic goal to complete his hat trick, dished from Efrain Alvarez. Sporting got one back with a Gutierrez goal in the 86th minute, with an assist from Gianluca Busio. Los Angeles' Corona took a yellow card for not retreating in the 89th minute. The final stood at 7-2, with the man of the match honors awarded to Ibrahimovic.

The Dash added on in the 62nd minute with another Huerta goal, via Rachel Daly. Utah got on the board in the 75th minute with a Gunnhildur Jonsdottir goal, coming off of Erika Tymrak. Houston's Christine Nairn received a yellow card for time wasting in the 87th minute. The Dash held on for the 2-1 win, with the woman of the match being Huerta.

The Courage padded the lead as McKenzie Meehan scored in the 78th minute, with the help of McDonald. Orlando got on the board in the 82nd minute with a Rachel Hill goal, via Danica Evans. North Carolina shot back with an 85th minute Heather O'Reilly goal, fueled by McCall Zerboni. The Courage capped it at 6-1 in stoppage time with a Debinha goal, coming off of O'Reilly. The woman of the match was O'Reilly.

Also, the Washington Spirit bring in Reign FC at Audi Field. Casey Murphy and Aubrey Bledsoe are the young keepers. Washington opened in the 30th minute with an Ashley Hatch goal, assisted by Mallory Pugh. Reign tied it on a Bethany Balcer goal in the 35th minute. The Spirit retook the lead in the 90th minute on a Chloe Logarzo goal, set up by Hatch. Reign tied it again in stoppage time on an Ifeoma Onumonu goal, passed from Jodie Taylor. Kristen McNabb of Reign picked up a yellow card for a foul late in stoppage time. The final held at 2-2, with Hatch as the woman of the match.

On Sunday, Sky Blue FC hosts the Chicago Red Stars. Alyssa Naeher and Kailen Sheridan draw the starts in goal. Chicago started with a Morgan Brian goal in the 31st minute, set up by Sam Kerr. The Red Stars added on in the 33rd minute with a Kerr goal, coming off of Yuki Nagasato. Sky Blue's Raquel Rodriguez took a yellow card for a 78th minute foul. Chicago extended the lead in the 80th minute as Nagasato scored, thanks to Zoey Goralski. The final was 3-0, with Kerr as the woman of the match.

In the 39th minute, Chicago's Katie Johnson took a yellow card for a foul. In the 64th minute, the Red Stars went down to ten women when Johnson received a second yellow card for a foul. Chicago struck late with a Casey Short goal at the death, set up by Sam Kerr. The final was 1-0, with Harris named woman of the match after going six for seven in saves despite the late goal.

North Carolina led off in the 15th minute with a Debinha goal, assisted by Crystal Dunn. The Courage added on with a Lynn Williams goal in the 21st minute, via Debinha. North Carolina extended the lead as Williams scored in the 24rd minute with the help of Merritt Mathias. Portland's Meghan Klingenberg took a yellow card for a 57th minute foul, as did teammate Lindsey Horan in the 58th minute. The Courage padded the lead with a Dunn goal, guided in by Jaelene Hinkle. North Carolina continued with a Williams goal to complete her hat trick, fueled by Debinha. The Courage's Hinkle had a yellow card for a 69th minute foul. North Carolina kept going with a Kristen Hamilton goal, made possible by Debinha. The final was 6-0, with Williams selected as woman of the match.
