The Capitals added on in the second period with a John Carlson goal, his second of the year, with a helper from Garnet Hathaway. Washington extended the lead in the third period as Evgeny Kuznetsov scored his second of the season on the power play, thanks to Nicklas Backstrom and Carlson. Dallas got on the board with a Radek Faksa goal, via Mattias Janmark and Miro Heiskanen. The Capitals iced it at 4-1 with an empty net goal by Alex Ovechkin, his fourth of the year, set up by Wilson. The three stars were Carlson, Wilson, and Samsonov (24 for 25 in saves).
Way up north, the Minnesota Wild bring in the Pittsburgh Penguins. Matt Murray and Devan Dubnyk guard the cages. Pittsburgh led off in the first period with a Patric Hornqvist power play goal, his third of the season, powered by Justin Schultz and Sidney Crosby. The Penguins added on in the second period with a Crosby goal, his third of the year, via Kris Letang and the goalie Murray. Minnesota got on the board with a Jason Zucker power play goal, his second of the season, with assists by Brad Hunt and Jared Spurgeon. Pittsburgh replied with an Adam Johnson goal, made possible by Sam Lafferty and Zach Aston-Reese. The Penguins extended the lead as Letang scored his second of the year, made possible by Brian Dumoulin and Brandon Tanev. Pittsburgh padded the lead with a Joseph Blandisi goal, assisted by Johnson and Lafferty. The Wild got one back on a Spurgeon goal, with assists from Marcus Foligno and Victor Rask. The Penguins shot back in the third period with a Jake Guentzel power play goal, his second of the season, with a lone helper by Hornqvist. Minnesota chipped back with a Hunt goal, his second of the year, dished from Kevin Fiala and Eric Staal. The Wild got closer with a Luke Kunin goal, coming off of Spurgeon and Jonas Brodin. Pittsburgh iced it at 7-4 with an empty net goal by Lafferty, going in unassisted. The three stars belonged to Lafferty, Johnson, and Crosby, while Letang, Hornqvist, Spurgeon, and Hunt get the honorable mentions.
In Denver, the Colorado Avalanche host the Arizona Coyotes. Antti Raanta and Pavel Francouz make their season debuts in goal. Colorado dented the scoreboard in the third period with a Nazem Kadri power play goal, via Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon. The Avalanche added on with a Tyson Jost goal, assisted by Makar and Matt Nieto. Arizona got on the board with a Michael Grabner goal, coming off of Brad Richardson and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. The Coyotes tied it with a Nick Schmaltz goal, his second of the season, passed from Clayton Keller and Alex Goligoski. Colorado won 3-2 in overtime with an Andre Burakovsky goal, his second of the year, helped along by Mikko Rantanen and Samuel Girard. The three stars were Makar, Francouz (34 for 36 in saves), and Burakovsky.
To Nevada, with the Vegas Golden Knights welcoming the Calgary Flames. David Rittich and Marc-Andre Fleury are between the pipes. Vegas began in the first period with a Tomas Nosek goal, his third of the season, assisted by William Carrier and Mark Stone. Calgary tied it with a second period goal by Rasmus Andersson, via Mikael Backlund and Matthew Tkachuk. The Flames took the lead with a Johnny Gaudreau goal, his third of the year, helped along by Sean Monahan. The Golden Knights retied it with a Stone goal, his third of the season, with a lone assist by Max Pacioretty. Vegas added on with a Paul Stastny goal, courtesy of Pacioretty. The Golden Knights extended the lead as Ryan Reaves scored an unassisted goal in the third period. Vegas padded the lead as Cody Glass scored his second of the year, thanks to Valentin Zykov and Nicolas Hague. This made it 6-2, the final, with the three stars being Stone, Carrier, and Pacioretty.
Finally, the Vancouver Canucks bring in the Philadelphia Flyers. Carter Hart and Jacob Markstrom are the underrated goalies. Vancouver struck first in the first period with a Brock Boeser goal, fueled by Elias Pettersson and Christopher Tanev. Philadelphia tied it in the second period on a Carsen Tawrynski goal, assisted by Justin Braun and Travis Sanheim. The Canucks retook the lead with a Tanner Pearson goal, his second of the season, made possible by Tanev and Josh Leivo. The Flyers tied it again in the third period with an Oskar Lindblom power play goal, his second of the year, powered by Travis Konecny and Matt Niskanen. The tie went to a shootout, where Pettersson and Pearson overwhelmed Claude Giroux as the Canucks took a 3-2 win. The three stars were Pearson, Tanev, and Pettersson.
