NHL 2019-20 - Day 56

Only three games on this Tuesday, beginning with...

The Montreal Canadiens hosting the Boston Bruins. Jaroslav Halak and Carey Price tend the twines. Boston led off in the first period with a Jake DeBrusk power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by Sean Kuraly and David Krejci. Montreal tied it with a Shea Weber goal, his eighth of the year, guided in by Brendan Gallagher and Tomas Tatar. The Bruins took the lead back with a David Pastrnak power play goal, his twenty-first of the season, with assists provided by Charlie Coyle and Brad Marchand. Boston added on with a Marchand goal, his seventeenth of the year, coming off of Coyle. The Bruins extended the lead in the second period as Pastrnak scored his second of the game and twenty-second of the season, with the help of Marchand and Zdeno Chara. Boston chased Price with an Anders Bjork goal, his fourth of the year, via Kuraly. Keith Kinkaid relieved Price in goal. The Bruins padded the lead on a Pastrnak goal, which completed his hat trick on his twenty-third of the season, made possible by Brandon Carlo and Krejci. NHL 2019-20 - Day 55

We've got nine games on as the usual pattern this week is reversed. First up...

The New York Rangers host the Minnesota Wild. Alex Stalock and Henrik Lundqvist play in goal. New York began in the first period with a Brady Skjei goal, his third of the season, passed from Tony DeAngelo and Artemi Panarin. Minnesota tied it on a Zach Parise goal, his ninth of the year, made possible by Kevin Fiala and Jared Spurgeon in the second period. The Wild took the lead in the third period with a Ryan Donato goal, his second of the season, coming off of Ryan Hartman. The Rangers tied it again with a Chris Kreider power play goal, his sixth of the year, powered by Panarin and Adam Fox. New York won 3-2 in overtime with a DeAngelo goal, his seventh of the campaign, assisted by Panarin and Ryan Strome. The three stars were Panarin, DeAngelo, and Lundqvist (26 for 28 in saves).

Over in Pittsburgh, the Penguins welcome the Calgary Flames. David Rittich faces a lesser foe in Tristan Jarry in goal. Calgary led off in the first period with a Dillon Dube goal, courtesy of Rasmus Andersson and Derek Ryan. Pittsburgh tied it on an Alex Galchenyuk power play goal, powered by Dominik Kahun and Jared McCann. The Penguins took the lead with a McCann goal, his ninth of the season, coming off of Galchenyuk in the second period. The Flames retied it with a Sean Monahan power play goal, his sixth of the year, with assists provided by Matthew Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau. Pittsburgh won 3-2 in overtime with a Jake Guentzel goal, his twelfth of the campaign, via Kahun and John Marino. The three stars were McCann, Galchenyuk, and Kahun.

Across Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Flyers bring in the Vancouver Canucks. Thatcher Demko and Carter Hart are the goalies. Vancouver started in the first period with a J.T. Miller goal, his tenth of the season, with a lone helper by Bo Horvat. Philadelphia tied it in the second period with a Sean Couturier goal, his seventh of the year, fueled by Jakub Voracek and Robert Hagg. The Flyers took the lead in the third period with a Voracek goal, his sixth of the campaign, guided in by Justin Braun and Couturier. This made it 2-1, the final, with the three stars being Voracek, Couturier, and Hart (16 for 17 in saves).

Down to Tampa Bay, as the Lightning host the Buffalo Sabres. Carter Hutton and Andrei Vasilevskiy are between the pipes. Back north, the Columbus Blue Jackets welcome the Ottawa Senators. Craig Anderson and Joonas Korpisalo draw the starts in goal. Columbus dented the scoreboard in the third period with an Oliver Bjorkstrand goal, his sixth of the season, assisted by Zach Werenski and Boone Jenner. This stood for a 1-0 win, with the three stars given to Korpisalo (25 save shutout), Bjorkstrand, and Anderson (18 for 19 in saves).

Along to Nashville, where the Predators bring in the St. Louis Blues. Jake Allen and Juuse Saros are the backups in goal. The Predators added on with a Ryan Johansen goal, his fourth of the year, passed from Calle Jarnkrok and Filip Forsberg. St. Louis got on the board in the second period with a David Perron goal, his eleventh of the season, with a lone helper from Ryan O'Reilly. The Blues tied it in the third period on a Brayden Schenn goal, his twelfth of the year, fueled by Robert Thomas and Colton Parayko. The tie went to a shootout, where Forsberg and Daniel Carr led the Predators to a 3-2 win over Perron and the Blues. The three stars were Forsberg, Perron, and Allen (37 for 39 in saves).

Further south, the Dallas Stars host the Vegas Golden Knights. Malcolm Subban is mismatched with Ben Bishop in goal. Dallas kicked off the scoring in the first period with an Alexander Radulov power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by John Klingberg and Tyler Seguin. The Stars added on with an Esa Lindell goal, his second of the year, coming off of Andrew Cogliano and Seguin. Vegas got on the board in the second period with a Shea Theodore goal, his third of the season, passed from William Carrier and Ryan Reaves. Dallas shot back on a Jason Dickinson goal, his fourth of the year, made possible by Radulov and Klingberg. The Golden Knights pulled back in the third period with a Paul Stastny goal, his seventh of the season, helped along by Mark Stone and Max Pacioretty. The Stars responded with another Radulov power play goal, his second of the game and eighth of the year, with assists provided by Klingberg and Mattias Janmark. This made it 4-2, the final, with the three stars handed to Radulov, Klingberg, and Seguin.

Out west, the Anaheim Ducks welcome the New York Islanders. Thomas Greiss and John Gibson are the masked men. Anaheim got going in the second period with a Ryan Getzlaf goal, his ninth of the season, going in unassisted. The Ducks added on in the third period with a Cam Fowler goal, his fifth of the year, courtesy of Getzlaf. Anaheim extended the lead as Ondrej Kase scored his third of the season, thanks to Erik Gudbranson and Fowler. The final stood at 3-0 with the three stars being Gibson (26 save shutout), Getzlaf, and Fowler.

Finally, the Los Angeles Kings bring in the San Jose Sharks. Martin Jones and Jonathan Quick are the veterans in goal. San Jose drew first blood in the first period with an Erik Karlsson goal, his third of the season, coming off of Logan Couture and Evander Kane. The Sharks added on in the second period with a Timo Meier goal, his seventh of the year, via Kevin Labanc and Karlsson. San Jose extended the lead as Meier scored his second of the game and eighth of the season, with the help of Brenden Dillon and Labanc. Los Angeles got on the board with an Adrian Kempe goal, his third of the year, passed from Blake Lizotte and Austin Wagner. The Kings got closer in the third period with a Dustin Brown goal, his fifth of the season, courtesy of Alex Iafallo and Anze Kopitar. Los Angeles tied it as Kopitar scored his tenth of the year, thanks to Iafallo and Kempe. The Sharks won 4-3 in overtime with an unassisted Patrick Marleau goal, his fifth of the campaign. The three stars were Meier, Karlsson, and Labanc, while Kopitar, Kempe, and Iafallo get the honorable mentions.

Just three games this time, beginning with...

The Florida Panthers hosting the Buffalo Sabres. Linus Ullmark and Sam Montembeault are in goal. Buffalo opened in the first period with a Jeff Skinner goal, his ninth of the season, made possible by Jack Eichel and Conor Sheary. The Sabres added on with a Zemgus Girgensons goal, his second of the year, via Brandon Montour. Buffalo extended the lead in the second period as Jack Eichel scored his fourteenth of the season, thanks to Rasmus Dahlin and Zach Bogosian. Florida got on the board with a Noel Acciari goal, his fifth of the year, going in unassisted. The Sabres replied with a Victor Olofsson goal, his eighth of the season, passed from Sam Reinhart and Eichel. The Panthers got one back in the third period with a Brett Connolly power play goal, his eleventh of the year, powered by Aaron Ekblad and Vincent Trocheck. Buffalo capped it at 5-2 with another Girgensons goal, his second of the game and third of the campaign, with helpers from Jimmy Vesey and Johan Larsson. Up in Detroit, the Red Wings welcome the Carolina Hurricanes. James Reimer and Jimmy Howard are between the pipes. Finally, the Arizona Coyotes bring in the Edmonton Oilers. Mikko Koskinen and Darcy Kuemper protect the nets. Arizona tied it on a Carl Soderberg power play goal, his seventh of the year, with assists provided by Nick Schmaltz and Alex Goligoski. The Oilers took the lead in the second period with an Alex Chiasson goal, his second of the season, fueled by Sam Gagner and Oscar Klefbom. The Washington Capitals hosting the Vancouver Canucks. Jacob Markstrom and Braden Holtby are the masked men. Washington led off in the first period with a Jakub Vrana goal, his eleventh of the season, passed from Lars Eller. Vancouver tied it on an Elias Pettersson power play goal, his tenth of the year, powered by J.T. Miller and Quinn Hughes. In the shootout, Bo Horvat had the lone tally for a 2-1 Canucks win. The three stars were Markstrom (32 for 33 in saves), Holtby (32 for 33 in saves), and Pettersson.

Over in Philadelphia, the Flyers welcome the Calgary Flames. David Rittich and Carter Hart are in goal. NHL 2019-20 - Day 52

Just two games on a quiet Friday night, beginning with...

The Pittsburgh Penguins welcoming the New Jersey Devils. MacKenzie Blackwood and Tristan Jarry are the masked men. Pittsburgh began in the first period with a Dominik Kahun goal, his sixth of the season, made possible by Dominik Simon. New Jersey tied it in the second period with a Taylor Hall power play goal, his third of the year, powered by Nico Hischier and Kyle Palmieri. The Penguins retook the lead on a Jake Guentzel goal, his eleventh of the season, fueled by Evgeni Malkin and Bryan Rust. Pittsburgh added on in the third period with a Jared McCann goal, his eighth of the year, helped along by Alex Galchenyuk and Brandon Tanev. The Penguins extended the lead as John Marino scored his second of the season, thanks to Zach Aston-Reese and Sam Lafferty. Louis Domingue replaced Blackwood in goal. The final was 4-1, with the three stars given to Jarry (36 for 37 in saves), Guentzel, and McCann.

Up in Ottawa, the Senators bring in the New York Rangers. Henrik Lundqvist and Anders Nilsson are in the creases. The Senators added on with a Logan Brown power play goal, powered by Jean-Gabriel Pageau. We're ready to go with a 13-game slate again, beginning with...

The New York Islanders hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins. Matt Murray and Thomas Greiss are in goal. Pittsburgh started in the first period with an Evgeni Malkin goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Jake Guentzel and John Marino. New York tied it on a Scott Mayfield goal, his third of the year, via Mathew Barzal. The Penguins retook the lead in the second period with an unassisted Bryan Rust goal, his eighth of the season. The Islanders tied it again with an Anthony Beauvillier power play goal, his eighth of the year, powered by Derick Brassard and Ryan Pulock. New York gained the lead in the third period with a Brock Nelson power play goal, his seventh of the season, with assists provided by Beauvillier and Barzal. Pittsburgh tied it as Patric Hornqvist scored his sixth of the year, thanks to Malkin and Brian Dumoulin. The Islanders won 4-3 in overtime with a Nelson goal, his second of the game and eighth of the campaign, guided in by Barzal. Boston tied it with a Brad Marchand goal, his fourteenth of the season, coming off of Zdeno Chara and David Pastrnak. The Bruins took the lead with a Marchand power play goal in the second period, his second of the game and fifteenth of the year, with assists provided by Matt Grzelcyk and Danton Heinen. The Blues added on in the second period with an Oskar Sundqvist goal, his fifth of the year, courtesy of Sanford. St. Louis extended the lead on a David Perron power play goal, his tenth of the season, powered by Alex Pietrangelo and Brayden Schenn. The Blues padded the lead in the third period as Sundqvist scored his second of the game and sixth of the year, thanks to Sanford and Thomas. St. Louis kept going with a Vince Dunn goal, his fourth of the campaign, made possible by Thomas and Sanford. The Wild added on with a Jordan Greenway goal, his second of the year, via Luke Kunin and Joel Eriksson Ek. Colorado got on the board with a Cale Makar power play goal, his sixth of the season, with assists provided by Nathan MacKinnon and Andre Burakovsky. The Avalanche tied it with another Makar goal, his second of the game and seventh of the year, fueled by Burakovsky and Samuel Girard. Minnesota regained the lead in the third period with a Jason Zucker goal, his seventh of the campaign, with helpers from Eric Staal and Ryan Suter. Finally, the Los Angeles Kings host the Edmonton Oilers. Mike Smith and Jonathan Quick are the experienced goalies. Los Angeles struck first in the first period with a Tyler Toffoli goal, his fifth of the season, passed from Jeff Carter and Drew Doughty.
