NHL 2019-20 - Day 100

We've reached the 100th game day of the season. There's six to be played today, beginning with...

The Winnipeg Jets hosting the Nashville Predators. Juuse Saros is mismatched with Connor Hellebuyck in goal. Nashville opened in the first period with a Kyle Turris goal, his sixth of the season, fueled by Yakov Trenin. This stood for a 1-0 win, with the three stars going to Saros (28 save shutout), Turris, and Hellebuyck (31 for 32 in saves).

Stateside to Minnesota, as the Wild welcome the Vancouver Canucks. Jacob Markstrom and Devan Dubnyk are the veteran goalies. Vancouver got going in the second period with an Elias Pettersson power play goal, his twenty-first of the season, powered by Quinn Hughes and J.T. Miller.Minnesota tied it on a Marcus Foligno goal, his eighth of the year, fueled by Luke Kunin and Jonas Brodin. The Canucks responded with a Bo Horvat goal, his fourteenth of the season, assisted by Tanner Pearson. Vancouver added on with a Troy Stecher goal, his third of the year, passed from Miller. The Canucks capped it at 4-1 with a Horvat empty net goal, his fifteenth of the campaign, set up by Christopher Tanev in the third period. The three stars belonged to Horvat, Miller, and Markstrom (23 for 24 in saves).

Along to Detroit, as the Red Wings bring in the Buffalo Sabres. Linus Ullmark and Jimmy Howard are in the creases. Buffalo started in the first period with an Evan Rodrigues goal, via Curtis Lazar and Conor Sheary. The Sabres added on with a Rodrigues power play goal, his second of the game, powered by Henri Jokiharju and Brandon Montour. Buffalo extended the lead as Zemgus Girgensons scored his eighth of the season, a shorthanded and unassisted goal. Detroit got on the board in the second period with a Madison Bowey goal, his third of the year, courtesy of Robby Fabbri and Dylan Larkin. The Sabres answered in the third period with a Zach Bogosian goal, with helpers from Lazar and Michael Frolik. Buffalo padded the lead as Rasmus Ristolainen scored his fifth of the season on the power play, thanks to Jack Eichel and Rasmus Dahlin. This stood for a 5-1 win, with the three stars belonging to Rodrigues, Lazar, and Ullmark (21 for 22 in saves).

Southwest to Arizona, as the Coyotes host the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tristan Jarry and Adin Hill are in the blue paint. Pittsburgh led off in the first period with a Jared McCann power play goal, his thirteenth of the season, powered by Bryan Rust and Evgeni Malkin. Arizona tied it on a Conor Garland goal, his fifteenth of the year, via Taylor Hall and Alex Goligoski. The Penguins took the lead with a Patric Hornqvist power play goal in the second period, his eleventh of the season, assisted by Malkin and Alex Galchenyuk. The Coyotes retied it on a Hall goal, his tenth of the year, courtesy of Christian Dvorak. Arizona pulled ahead with a Derek Stepan goal in the third period, his eighth of the season, with a lone assist by Niklas Hjalmarsson. Pittsburgh tied it again with a Brandon Tanev goal, his tenth of the year, fueled by Juuso Riikola and Chad Ruhwedel. The tie went to a shootout, where Rust and Teddy Blueger lifted the Penguins 4-3 over the Coyotes and Hall. The three stars were Hall, Malkin, and Rust.

Back east, the Florida Panthers welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs. Chris Driedger and Frederik Andersen are between the pipes. Florida began in the first period with a Josh Brown goal, his third of the season, made possible by Brett Connolly and Vincent Trocheck. The Panthers added on with an Aleksander Barkov goal, his fourteenth of the year, passed from Mark Pysyk and Colton Sceviour. Florida extended the lead as Mike Hoffman scored his seventeenth of the season, thanks to Dominic Toninato and Frank Vatrano. The Panthers padded the lead in the second period on a Mike Matheson goal, his fifth of the year, assisted by Trocheck and Connolly. Michael Hutchinson relieved Andersen in goal. Florida kept going on a Vatrano shorthanded goal, his tenth of the season, set up by Barkov. Toronto got on the board with a Zach Hyman goal, his eleventh of the year, coming off of Morgan Rielly and Kasperi Kapanen. The Panthers responded with a Trocheck goal, his sixth of the season, going in unassisted. Florida continued with a Jonathan Huberdeau goal, his eighteenth of the year, with helpers from Barkov and Riley Stillman. The Maple Leafs got one back with a Mitchell Marner goal, his twelfth of the season, helped along by Hyman and Tyson Barrie. Toronto got closer with a John Tavares goal, his seventeenth of the year, courtesy of William Nylander and Alexander Kerfoot. The Maples marched closer with a Marner goal in the third period, his second of the game and thirteenth of the season, with a lone assist provided by Hyman. The Panthers countered with a Hoffman power play goal, his eighteenth of the year, powered by Huberdeau and Evgenii Dadonov. This made it 8-4, the final, with the three stars being Hoffman, Trocheck, and Huberdeau, while Barkov, Vatrano, Connolly, Hyman, and Marner get the honorable mentions.

Finally, the New Jersey Devils bring in the Tampa Bay Lightning. Curtis McElhinney and Louis Domingue are the backups in goal. Tampa Bay dented the scoreboard in the second period with a Tyler Johnson goal, his eleventh of the season, coming off of Victor Hedman. New Jersey tied it on an Andy Greene goal, guided in by Miles Wood and Jack Hughes. The Devils took the lead with a Travis Zajac goal, his sixth of the year, via Nikita Gusev and Damon Severson. New Jersey iced it at 3-1 with a Wood empty net goal, his seventh of the campaign, set up by Wayne Simmonds and Greene in the third period. The three stars were Greene, Wood, and Domingue (26 for 27 in saves).
