NHL 2019-20 - Day 101

Five games fill the schedule tonight, beginning with...

The Washington Capitals hosting the Carolina Hurricanes. Petr Mrazek and Ilya Samsonov are in the blue paint. Washington began in the first period with an Alex Ovechkin goal, his twenty-seventh of the season, made possible by Tom Wilson. The Capitals added on with an Ovechkin power play goal, his second of the game and twenty-eighth of the year, powered by Jakub Vrana and Nicklas Backstrom. The final held at 2-0, with the three stars awarded to Ovechkin, Samsonov (23 save shutout), and Mrazek (28 for 30 in saves).

Over in Philadelphia, the Flyers welcome the Boston Bruins. Jaroslav Halak and Carter Hart are the goalies. Boston led off in the first period with an Anders Bjork goal, his seventh of the season, coming off of Jake DeBrusk. The Bruins added on with a David Krejci power play goal, his tenth of the year, powered by Danton Heinen and Charlie Coyle. Philadelphia got on the board with a Kevin Hayes power play goal, his fourteenth of the season, with assists provided by Travis Konecny and James van Riemsdyk. Boston replied in the second period with a David Pastrnak goal, his thirty-sixth of the year, courtesy of Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron. The Flyers countered with a Travis Sanheim goal, his sixth of the season, made possible by Sean Couturier and Jakub Voracek. The Bruins shot back on a Coyle goal, his ninth of the year, with helpers from Heinen and Brandon Carlo. Boston extended the lead as Krejci scored his second of the game and eleventh of the season, thanks to Bjork and DeBrusk. Philadelphia pulled one back on a Couturier goal, his thirteenth of the year, via Voracek and Matt Niskanen. The Flyers got closer with a Connor Bunnaman goal, assisted by Mark Friedman and Robert Hagg. Philadelphia tied it in the third period with a Sanheim goal, his second of the game and seventh of the season, guided in by Philippe Myers and Couturier. The Flyers won 6-5 in the shootout with a lone tally by Konecny. The three stars were handed to Couturier, Sanheim, and Voracek, while Krejci, Bjork, Heinen, Coyle, and DeBrusk got the honorable mentions.

Along to New York, as the Rangers host the cross-town rival Islanders. Semyon Varlamov and Alexandar Georgiev draw the starts in goal. The Islanders opened in the first period with a Jordan Eberle goal, his fifth of the season, made possible by Brock Nelson. The Rangers tied it on a Jesper Fast goal, his eighth of the year, via Artemi Panarin and Brady Skjei. The Rangers took the lead in the second period with a Chris Kreider goal, his fifteenth of the season, fueled by Panarin and Skjei. The Rangers added on with an Adam Fox goal, his sixth of the year, coming off of Fast and Panarin. The Rangers extended the lead in the third period on an unassisted Panarin goal, his twenty-fifth of the season. The Rangers padded the lead as Panarin scored his second of the game and twenty-sixth of the year, thanks to Ryan Strome and Fast. The Rangers continued with a Jacob Trouba power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by Fox and Filip Chytil. The Islanders got one back with a Nelson power play goal, his sixteenth of the year, with assists provided by Eberle and Derick Brassard. The final remained at 6-2, with the three stars handed to Panarin, Nelson, and Fast, while Fox, Skjei, and Eberle get the honorable mentions.

Up in Montreal, the Canadiens bring in the Calgary Flames. David Rittich and Carey Price tend the twines. Montreal started in the first period with a Jordan Weal goal, his fifth of the season, guided in by Jeff Petry and Dale Weise. The Canadiens added on in the third period with a Ryan Poehling goal, going in unassisted. This produced the 2-0 final score, with the three stars given to Price (31 save shutout), Weal, and Poehling.

Finally, the St. Louis Blues host the Anaheim Ducks. John Gibson and Jake Allen are between the pipes. St. Louis struck first in the first period with an Alexander Steen goal, his third of the season, courtesy of Robert Bortuzzo and Brayden Schenn. Anaheim tied it on a Max Comtois goal, his fifth of the year, going in unassisted. The Blues retook the lead in the second period with a Tyler Bozak goal, his eleventh of the season, via MacKenzie MacEachern and Robert Thomas. St. Louis added on with a Jaden Schwartz power play goal, his sixteenth of the year, powered by Schenn and Alex Pietrangelo. The Blues extended the lead as Ivan Barbashev scored an unassisted goal in the third period, his seventh of the season. This stood for a 4-1 win, with the three stars going to Schenn, Bozak, and Allen (20 for 21 in saves).
