The Montreal Canadiens welcoming the Chicago Blackhawks. Corey Crawford faces a lesser foe in Charlie Lindgren in goal. Chicago opened in the first period with a Zack Smith shorthanded goal, his third of the season, set up by Drake Caggiula. The Blackhawks added on with a Smith goal, his second of the game and fourth of the year, via Slater Koekkoek and Olli Maatta. Montreal got on the board in the second period with a Phillip Danault goal, his twelfth of the season, made possible by Ilya Kovalchuk and Tomas Tatar. Chicago responded with an Alex DeBrincat power play goal, his twelfth of the year, powered by Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews. The Blackhawks extended the lead as Caggiula scored his fourth of the year, an unassisted goal. The three stars of the 4-1 game were Crawford (32 for 33 in saves), Smith, and Caggiula.
The other game sees the St. Louis Blues bring in the Philadelphia Flyers. Brian Elliott is mismatched with Jordan Binnington in goal. St. Louis started in the first period with a Justin Faulk power play goal, his fourth of the season, powered by Alexander Steen and Robert Thomas. Philadelphia tied it in the second period with a Tyler Pitlick goal, his fifth of the year, courtesy of Scott Laughton and Matt Niskanen. The Flyers pulled ahead on a Michael Raffl goal, his fifth of the season, made possible by Robert Hagg and Sean Couturier. Philadelphia added on in the third period with a Travis Konecny power play goal, his fifteenth of the year, with assists provided by James van Riemsdyk and Claude Giroux. The Blues got one back with a Ryan O'Reilly goal, his ninth of the season, guided in by Brayden Schenn and David Perron. St. Louis tied it as Steen scored his fourth of the year, thanks to Thomas and Jaden Schwartz. The Flyers won 4-3 in overtime with a Jakub Voracek goal, his ninth of the campaign, helped along by Ivan Provorov and Couturier. The three stars went to Couturier, Steen, and Thomas.
