NHL 2022-23 - Day 62

It's a six-pack on a Sunday this time, beginning with...

The St. Louis Blues hosting the Colorado Avalanche. Pavel Francouz and Jordan Binnington are the goalies. Colorado got going in the second period with a Mikko Rantanen goal, his seventeenth of the season, fueled by Alex Newhook and Brad Hunt. St. Louis tied it in the third period with a Vladimir Tarasenko power play goal, his eighth of the year, powered by Ryan O'Reilly and Robert Thomas. The Blues took the lead with a shorthanded and unassisted Brandon Saad goal, his sixth of the season. The Avalanche retied it on another Rantanen goal, his second of the game and eighteenth of the year, courtesy of J.T. Compher and Devon Toews. Colorado won 3-2 in overtime with a Rantanen goal to complete his hat trick on his nineteenth of the campaign, passed from Cale Makar and Valeri Nichushkin. The three stars were Rantanen, Francouz (30 for 32 in saves), and Saad. 

Southeast to Florida, as the Panthers welcome the Seattle Kraken. Martin Jones and Sergei Bobrovsky man the nets. Seattle led off in the first period with a Matty Beniers goal, his eleventh of the season, via Jared McCann. Florida tied it in the second period with an Eric Staal goal, assisted by Colin White and Nick Cousins. The Kraken took the lead with an Andre Burakovsky goal, his tenth of the year, fueled by Yanni Gourde and Oliver Bjorkstrand. Seattle added on in the third period with a Jordan Eberle goal, his seventh of the season, guided in by Will Borgen and Beniers. The Kraken extended the lead on a Daniel Sprong power play goal, his sixth of the year, powered by Alexander Wennberg and Burakovsky. Seattle padded the lead on a Gourde empty net goal, his fourth of the season, set up by Brandon Tanev and Adam Larsson. The Panthers got one back with a Chris Tierney goal, his second of the year, made possible by Matt Kiersted and Zac Dalpe. The final was 5-2, with the three stars being Burakovsky, Beniers, and Gourde.

Up in Columbus, the Blue Jackets bring in the Los Angeles Kings. Jonathan Quick and Elvis Merzlikins are set to start in goal. Columbus began in the first period with a Kirill Marchenko goal, assisted by Kent Johnson. The Blue Jackets added on with a Boone Jenner power play goal, his tenth of the season, powered by Jack Roslovic and Johnny Gaudreau. Los Angeles got on the board in the second period with an Anze Kopitar goal, his ninth of the year, guided in by Arthur Kaliyev and Kevin Fiala. The Kings tied it on a Blake Lizotte goal, his sixth of the season, coming off of Carl Grundstrom and Alex Iafallo. Columbus pulled ahead with a Patrik Laine goal, his eighth of the year, fueled by Roslovic and Erik Gudbranson. Los Angeles tied it again with a Jaret Anderson-Dolan goal, his second of the season, helped along by Sean Durzi. The Blue Jackets regained the lead with a Roslovic shorthanded goal, his second of the year, set up by Eric Robinson and Vladislav Gavrikov. Columbus extended the lead as Roslovic scored his second of the game and third of the season on the power play, thanks to Gaudreau and Laine. The Kings got one back in the third period with a Kopitar goal, his second of the game and tenth of the year, courtesy of Sean Walker. Los Angeles tied it on an Adrian Kempe goal, his tenth of the season, going in unassisted. The Blue Jackets won 6-5 in overtime with a Gaudreau goal, his tenth of the year, made possible by Laine and Vladislav Gavrikov. The three stars were given to Roslovic, Laine, and Gaudreau, while Kopitar and Gavrikov get the honorable mentions.

Further north, the Winnipeg Jets host the Washington Capitals. Charlie Lindgren and Connor Hellebuyck are in the creases. Washington dented the scoreboard in the second period with a Trevor van Riemsdyk goal, his second of the season, helped along by Nic Dowd and Aliaksei Protas. The Capitals added on with an Evgeny Kuznetsov power play goal, his fourth of the year, powered by John Carlson and Conor Sheary. Washington extended the lead as Marcus Johansson scored his seventh of the season, a shorthanded penalty shot. The Capitals padded the lead as Lars Eller scored his sixth of the year, thanks to Anthony Mantha and Dmitry Orlov. Winnipeg got on the board in the third period with an Adam Lowry goal, his seventh of the season, coming off of Josh Morrissey and Morgan Barron. The Jets got closer with a Pierre-Luc Dubois goal, his fourteenth of the year, guided in by Kyle Connor and Mikey Eyssimont. Washington iced it at 5-2 with an Alex Ovechkin empty net goal, his seventeenth of the campaign, set up by Orlov. The three stars were Johansson, Orlov, and Lindgren (29 for 31 in saves).

Way down in Arizona, the Coyotes welcome the Philadelphia Flyers. Carter Hart and Karel Vejmelka protect the nets. Arizona started in the first period with a Clayton Keller power play goal, his eighth of the season, powered by J.J. Moser and Nick Ritchie. Philadelphia tied it in the second period with a Morgan Frost goal, his fourth of the year, via James van Riemsdyk and Owen Tippett. The Flyers took the lead with a van Riemsdyk goal, his third of the season, coming off of Frost. The Coyotes tied it again with a Keller goal, his second of the game and ninth of the year, passed from Nick Schmaltz and Travis Boyd. Arizona gained the lead on a Jack McBain goal, his fourth of the season, assisted by Moser and Liam O'Brien. Philadelphia tied it with a Tippett goal, his eighth of the year, helped along by van Riemsdyk and Frost. The Coyotes pulled ahead in the third period with an unassisted Ritchie goal, his seventh of the season. The Flyers evened it on a Travis Konecny goal, his eleventh of the year, made possible by Frost. Arizona won 5-4 in overtime when Keller completed his hat trick on his tenth of the season, thanks to Jakob Chychrun and Schmaltz. The three stars were Keller, Ritchie, and Frost, while Schmaltz, Moser, van Riemsdyk and Tippett get the honorable mentions.

Finally, the Vegas Golden Knights bring in the Boston Bruins. Linus Ullmark and Logan Thompson guard the cages. Vegas opened in the first period with a Mark Stone power play goal, his tenth of the season, powered by Chandler Stephenson and Ben Hutton. Boston tied it in the second period with a Patrice Bergeron goal, his tenth of the year, coming off of David Pastrnak and Connor Clifton. The Bruins took the lead with a Jake DeBrusk goal, his ninth of the season, via Pavel Zacha and Taylor Hall. Boston added on with a Charlie Coyle goal, his eighth of the year, guided in by Derek Forbort. This stood for a 3-1 final score, with the three stars given to Ullmark (30 for 31 in saves), DeBrusk, and Coyle.
