NHL 2022-23 - Day 65

We've got three games for this Wednesday, beginning with...

The Ottawa Senators hosting the Montreal Canadiens. Sam Montembeault and Cam Talbot are in goal. Ottawa got going in the second period with a Shane Pinto goal, his tenth of the season, made possible by Alex DeBrincat and Nikita Zaitsev. The Senators added on with a Drake Batherson power play goal, his eighth of the year, powered by DeBrincat and Brady Tkachuk. Ottawa extended the lead as Tkachuk scored his thirteenth of the season on the power play, thanks to DeBrincat and Batherson. Montreal got on the board in the third period with a Kirby Dach goal, his fifth of the year, courtesy of Jake Evans and Juraj Slafkovsky. The Canadiens got closer with a Christian Dvorak goal, his sixth of the season, assisted by Nick Suzuki and Evgenii Dadonov. The final held at 3-2, with the three stars going to Tkachuk, Batherson, and DeBrincat.

Over in Minnesota, the Wild welcome the Detroit Red Wings. Magnus Hellberg and Filip Gustavsson are the backups in goal. Minnesota started in the first period with a Frederick Gaudreau power play goal, his sixth of the season, powered by Sam Steel and Jared Spurgeon. The Wild added on in the second period with a Matt Dumba goal, his third of the year, via Jordan Greenway and Joel Eriksson Ek. Detroit got on the board with an Elmer Soderblom goal, his third of the season, coming off of Adam Erne. Minnesota fired back with a Mats Zuccarello goal, his tenth of the year, passed from Kirill Kaprizov. The Wild iced it at 4-1 with a Gaudreau empty net goal in the third period, his second of the game and seventh of the campaign, set up by Marcus Foligno. The three stars were Gaudreau, Dumba, and Gustavsson (16 for 17 in saves).

Finally, the Calgary Flames bring in the Vancouver Canucks. Spencer Martin and Jacob Markstrom man the nets. Vancouver opened in the first period with a Bo Horvat goal, his twenty-first of the season, coming off of Oliver Ekman-Larsson and J.T. Miller. The Canucks added on with a Conor Garland goal, his fifth of the year, via Nils Hoglander and Tyler Myers. Calgary got on the board with a Mikael Backlund power power play goal, his sixth of the season, powered by Dillon Dube and Adam Ruzicka. The Flames tied it with an Andrew Mangiapane goal, his seventh of the year, made possible by Nazem Kadri and Dube. Calgary pulled ahead in the second period with a Trevor Lewis goal, his sixth of the season, guided in by MacKenzie Weegar and the goalie Markstrom. Vancouver tied it on a Sheldon Dries goal, his third of the year, passed from Hoglander and Andrei Kuzmenko. The tie went to a shootout, where Kuzmenko's lone tally earned the Canucks a 4-3 win. The three stars were Hoglander, Dube, and Kuzmenko.
