NHL 2022-23 - Day 64

There's 12 games on this Tuesday. First up...

The Boston Bruins host the New York Islanders. Semyon Varlamov and Linus Ullmark guard the cages. Boston opened in the first period with a Jake Debrusk power play goal, his tenth of the season, powered by David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy. The Bruins added on with another DeBrusk goal, his second of the game and eleventh of the year, via Taylor Hall and Pavel Zacha. New York got on the board with a Josh Bailey goal, his fifth of the season, guided in by Noah Dobson and Brock Nelson. The Islanders tied it in the second period with a Dobson goal, his ninth of the year, coming off of Bailey and Nelson. Boston took the lead back with a shorthanded Derek Forbort goal, his second of the season, set up by Zacha and DeBrusk. New York tied it in the third period with a Casey Cizikas goal, his second of the year, made possible by Sebastian Aho. The tie went to a shootout, where DeBrusk and Pastrnak lifted the Bruins 4-3 over Mathew Barzal and the Islanders. The three stars were DeBrusk, Pastrnak, and Zacha, while Dobson, Bailey, and Nelson get the honorable mentions.

Over in Buffalo, the Sabres welcome the Los Angeles Kings. Pheonix Copley and Craig Anderson man the nets. Buffalo dented the scoreboard in the third period with a Tage Thompson power play goal, his twenty-second of the season, powered by Dylan Cozens. The Sabres added on with a Victor Olofsson goal, his thirteenth of the year, guided in by Rasmus Asplund and Tyson Jost. Buffalo extended the lead as J.J. Peterka scored his seventh of the season, thanks to Jack Quinn and Cozens. The Sabres padded the lead on an Alex Tuch power play goal, his fourteenth of the year, with assists provided by Thompson and Cozens. Buffalo continued with a Thompson power play goal, his second of the game and twenty-third of the season, fueled by Rasmus Dahlin and Tuch. The Sabres piled on with a Peyton Krebs goal, his third of the year, assisted by Olofsson and Asplund. The final was 6-0, with the three stars being Anderson (40 save shutout), Thompson, and Cozens, while Tuch, Olofsson, and Asplund get the honorable mentions.

To Toronto, as the Maple Leafs bring in the Anaheim Ducks. John Gibson and Ilya Samsonov are the veterans in goal. Toronto began in the first period with an Alexander Kerfoot goal, his third of the season, via Pierre Engvall and Conor Timmins. The Maple Leafs added on with a John Tavares goal, his fourteenth of the year, courtesy of Mitch Marner and Timmins. Lukas Dostal replaced an injured Gibson. Toronto extended the lead in the second period as T.J. Brodie scored, thanks to Timmins and Auston Matthews. The Maple Leafs padded the lead on a Michael Bunting goal, his sixth of the season, passed from Tavares and Marner. Toronto continued in the third period with a Kerfoot goal, his second of the game and fourth of the year, assisted by Mark Giordano and Pontus Holmberg. The Maple Leafs struck again with an Engvall goal, his fifth of the season, with helpers from Rasmus Sandin and Holmberg. Toronto piled on with a Joey Anderson goal, coming off of Holmberg and Sandin. The final was 7-0, with the three stars handed to Samsonov (29 save shutout), Kerfoot, and Timmins, while Tavares, Engvall, Marner, Holmberg, and Sandin get the honorable mentions.

South to Tampa Bay, as the Lightning host the Seattle Kraken. Philipp Grubauer and Andrei Vasilevskiy are in the blue paint. Tampa Bay led off in the first period with a Ian Cole goal, his third of the season, assisted by Brandon Hagel and Nikita Kucherov. The Lightning added on in the second period with an Erik Cernak goal, via Brayden Point and Kucherov. Seattle got on the board with a Jared McCann goal, his thirteenth of the year, passed from Jordan Eberle. Tampa Bay replied in the second period with a Corey Perry power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by Ross Colton and Mikhail Sergachev. The Lightning extended the lead as Point scored his fifteenth of the year, thanks to Kucherov and Victor Hedman. Martin Jones replaced Grubauer in goal. Tampa Bay padded the lead on a Colton goal, his seventh of the season, with helpers from Sergachev and Anthony Cirelli. The Lightning continued in the third period with a Steven Stamkos goal, his sixteenth of the year, guided in by Hedman and Cirelli. The Kraken got one back with a Ryan Donato goal, his fourth of the campaign, made possible by Yanni Gourde. The three stars of the 6-2 game were Kucherov, Point, and Colton, while Sergachev, Hedman, and Cirelli get the honorable mentions.

Also in Florida, the Panthers welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets. Elvis Merzlikins and Sergei Bobrovsky are the goalies. Florida started in the first period with a Brandon Montour goal, his sixth of the season, guided in by Gustav Forsling and Sam Reinhart. The Panthers added on in the second period with a Matthew Tkachuk goal, his fourteenth of the year, made possible by Reinhart and Aleksander Barkov. Florida extended the lead as Barkov scored his sixth of the season, thanks to Forsling and Tkachuk. The Panthers iced it at 4-0 with a Reinhart empty net goal in the third period, his eighth of the year, going in unassisted. The three stars were Bobrovsky (22 save shutout), Reinhart, and Tkachuk, while Barkov and Forsling get the honorable mentions.

Up in New Jersey, the Devils bring in the Dallas Stars. Scott Wedgewood and Akira Schmid get the starting nods in goal. Dallas got going in the second period with a Ty Dellandrea goal, his fifth of the season, coming off of Ryan Suter. New Jersey tied it on a Miles Wood goal, his seventh of the year, assisted by Kevin Bahl and Yegor Sharangovich. The Stars retook the lead with a Roope Hintz goal, his thirteenth of the season, courtesy of Miro Heiskanen and Jason Robertson. Dallas added on with an Esa Lindell empty net goal in the third period, his third of the year, going in unassisted. The Stars iced it at 4-1 with a Mason Marchment empty net goal, his ninth of the campaign, set up by Tyler Seguin. The three stars were Wedgewood (35 for 36 in saves), Hintz, and Dellandrea.

Along to Detroit, as the Red Wings host the Carolina Hurricanes. Pyotr Kochetkov and Ville Husso protect the nets. Carolina struck first in the first period with a Brady Skjei power play goal, his fifth of the season, powered by Seth Jarvis and Jesperi Kotkaniemi. The final held at 1-0, with the three stars awarded to Kochetkov (27 save shutout), Skjei, and Husso (26 for 27 in saves).

Down in Nashville, the Predators welcome the Edmonton Oilers. Jack Campbell and Kevin Lankinen are the goalies. Nashville kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Cody Glass goal, his second of the season, made possible by Roman Josi and Colton Sissons. Edmonton tied it on a Zach Hyman goal, his eleventh of the year, fueled by Evan Bouchard and Connor McDavid. The Oilers took the lead on another Hyman goal, his second of the game and twelfth of the season, assisted by Leon Draisaitl and McDavid. Edmonton added on with a Draisaitl power play goal, his twentieth of the year, powered by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Tyson Barrie. The Predators got one back in the second period on a Ryan Johansen goal, his eighth of the season, guided in by Filip Forsberg and Mark Jankowski. The Oilers replied with another Draisaitl goal, his second of the game and twenty-first of the year, coming off of Hyman and McDavid. Nashville pulled closer with a Dante Fabbro goal, helped along by Yakov Trenin and Josi. Edmonton responded with a McDavid power play goal, his twenty-sixth of the season, with assists provided by Draisaitl and Barrie. The Oilers iced it at 6-3 in the third period with Hyman completing his hat trick on his thirteenth of the year, an empty net goal set up by Draisaitl and Cody Ceci. The three stars were awarded to Hyman, Draisaitl, and McDavid, while Barrie and Josi get the honorable mentions.

North to Winnipeg, as the Jets bring in the Vegas Golden Knights. Adin Hill is mismatched with Connor Hellebuyck in goal. Winnipeg was first to score in the first period with a Mark Scheifele goal, his sixteenth of the season, via Josh Morrissey and Blake Wheeler. Vegas tied it on a Daniil Miromanov goal, coming off of Reilly Smith and William Karlsson. The Golden Knights took the lead on a Mark Stone goal, his eleventh of the year, passed from Nicolas Hague and Chandler Stephenson. The Jets tied it on a Morgan Barron goal in the second period, his third of the season, fueled by Dylan Samberg and Jansen Harkins. Vegas took the lead back with a Stone goal, his second of the game and twelfth of the year, guided in by Stephenson. Winnipeg retied it on a Sam Gagner goal, his fourth of the season, helped along by Brenden Dillon and Kevin Stenlund. The Jets pulled ahead in the third period with a Scheifele power play goal, his second of the game and seventeenth of the year, powered by Kyle Connor. The Golden Knights tied it again on a Jonathan Marchessault power play goal, his thirteenth of the season, with assists provided by Miromanov and Stephenson. Vegas took the lead with another Marchessault power play goal, his second of the game and fourteenth of the year, courtesy of Miromanov and Stephenson. The Golden Knights added on with a Karlsson empty net goal, his seventh of the season, set up by Smith and Brayden McNabb. Winnipeg got one back with a Scheifele goal, completing his hat trick on his eighteenth of the year, with helpers from Pierre-Luc Dubois and Dillon. The final was 6-5, and the three stars were Scheifele, Marchessault, and Stone, while Miromanov, Stephenson, Smith, Karlsson, and Dillon get the honorable mentions.

Stateside again, the Chicago Blackhawks host the Washington Capitals. Charlie Lindgren and Petr Mrazek are in the creases. Washington drew first blood in the first period with an Alex Ovechkin goal, his eighteenth of the season, assisted by John Carlson and Conor Sheary. The Capitals added on with another Ovechkin power play goal, his second of the game and nineteenth of the year, powered by Sheary and Sonny Milano. Chicago got on the board with a Tyler Johnson goal, his third of the season, via Jake McCabe and Jujhar Khaira. Washington answered in the second period with a Trevor van Riemsdyk goal, his third of the year, guided in by Ovechkin and Dylan Strome. The Blackhawks got one back with a Jonathan Toews power play goal, his ninth of the season, with an assist provided by Taylor Raddysh. The Capitals fired back with a Nic Dowd goal, his fifth of the year, passed from Garnet Hathaway and Nicolas Aube-Kubel. Washington extended the lead as Ovechkin completed his hat trick on his twentieth of the season, fueled by Anthony Mantha and Evgeny Kuznetsov. The Capitals padded the lead on a Mantha goal, his eighth of the year, coming off of Nick Jensen. Chicago got one back with a Max Domi goal, his tenth of the season, helped along by Ian Mitchell and Patrick Kane. Washington replied with a Dmitry Orlov goal, with helpers from Aube-Kubel and Hathaway. The final was 7-3, and the three stars were Ovechkin, Mantha, and Sheary, while Hathaway and Aube-Kubel get the honorable mentions.

Out west, the Colorado Avalanche welcome the Philadelphia Flyers. Felix Sandstrom and Pavel Francouz are the backups in goal. Philadelphia led off in the first period with a Cam York goal, going in unassisted. Colorado tied it in the second period with a Devon Toews goal, his second of the season, via J.T. Compher and Logan O'Connor. The Avalanche took the lead with an Artturi Lehkonen shorthanded goal, his eighth of the year, set up by Erik Johnson. Colorado added on in the third period with a Compher goal, his fourth of the season, guided in by Lehkonen. The Flyers got one back with a James van Riemsdyk goal, his fourth of the year, passed from Travis Konecny and Kevin Hayes. This only made it 3-2, the final, with the three stars being Compher, Lehkonen, and Toews.

Finally, the San Jose Sharks bring in the Arizona Coyotes. Karel Vejmelka and James Reimer are the masked men. San Jose began in the first period with a Tomas Hertl goal, his tenth of the season, assisted by Radim Simek and Scott Harrington. The Sharks added on with a Nick Bonino goal, his fourth of the year, via Erik Karlsson and Jonah Gadjovich. Arizona got on the board with a power play goal by Lawson Crouse, his thirteenth of the season, powered by Clayton Keller and Shayne Gostisbehere. San Jose shot back with a Nico Sturm goal, his eighth of the year, coming off of Bonino and Harrington. The Coyotes got one back in the third period with a Nick Bjugstad goal, his sixth of the season, helped along by Patrik Nemeth and Matias Maccelli. The three stars belonged to Bonino, Harrington, and Sturm.
