NHL 2022-23 - Day 72

Seven games on this Wednesday, beginning with...

The Florida Panthers hosting the New Jersey Devils. MacKenzie Blackwood and Sergei Bobrovsky are the goalies. Florida began in the first period with an Eric Staal goal, his third of the season, passed from Ryan Lomberg and Nick Cousins. New Jersey tied it on a Jesper Bratt power play goal, his eleventh of the year, powered by Jack Hughes and Dougie Hamilton. The Panthers took the lead back with an Eetu Luostarinen power play goal in the second period, his eighth of the season, helped along by Sam Bennett and Anton Lundell. The Devils tied it with another Bratt goal, his second of the game and twelfth of the year, coming off of Hamilton. New Jersey pulled ahead with a Yegor Sharangovich goal, his ninth of the season, via Jonas Siegenthaler and Michael McLeod. The Devils iced it at 4-2 with a Tomas Tatar empty net goal, his eighth of the year, going in unassisted. The three stars were Bratt, Hamilton, and Sharangovich.

Up in Detroit, the Red Wings welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning. Brian Elliott and Ville Husso start in goal. Tampa Bay led off in the first period with a Brayden Point goal, his seventeenth of the season, assisted by Nikita Kucherov and Erik Cernak. Detroit tied it on an Olli Maatta goal, his third of the year, via Pius Suter. The Lightning took the lead back with an Alex Killorn goal, his ninth of the season, made possible by Ross Colton and Nick Perbix. The Red Wings tied it again with a Michael Rasmussen goal, his fifth of the year, guided in by Ben Chiarot and Oskar Sundqvist. Detroit pulled ahead on a Dylan Larkin goal in the second period, his eleventh of the season, coming off of David Perron and Rasmussen. Tampa Bay retied it on a Colton goal, his eighth of the year, going in unassisted. The Red Wings pulled ahead with an Elmer Soderblom goal in the third period, his fourth of the season, passed from Joe Veleno. Detroit added on with another Larkin goal, his second of the game and twelfth of the year, an unassisted goal. The Lightning got one back with a Kucherov goal, his thirteenth of the season, helped along by Victor Hedman and Steven Stamkos. The Red Wings answered with a Perron empty net goal, his eleventh of the year, set up by Larkin. Detroit finished it at 7-4 with an empty net goal by Rasmussen, his sixth of the campaign, with a lone assist by Perron. Westward to Colorado, where the Avalanche bring in the Montreal Canadiens. Jake Allen and Alexander Georgiev are the masked men. Montreal opened in the first period with an Anthony Richard goal, courtesy of Jake Evans and Joel Armia. Colorado tied it on an Artturi Lehkonen power play goal in the third period, his ninth of the season, powered by Mikko Rantanen and Cale Makar. The Avalanche won 2-1 in overtime with a Rantanen goal, his twenty-second of the year, fueled by Devon Toews. The three stars were Rantanen, Georgiev (19 for 20 in saves), and Lehkonen.

Backtracking to Chicago, where the Blackhawks host the Nashville Predators. Juuse Saros and Petr Mrazek are in the blue paint. Nashville started in the first period with a Nino Neiderreiter goal, his eleventh of the season, assisted by Cody Glass and Dante Fabbro. Chicago tied it on a Connor Murphy goal, his third of the year, passed from Boris Katchouk and Max Domi. The Blackhawks took the lead on a MacKenzie Entwistle goal, his second of the season, made possible by Murphy. The Predators tied it on a Matt Duchene goal, his ninth of the year, courtesy of Mattias Ekholm and Alexandre Carrier. Nashville took the lead in the third period with a Roman Josi goal, his seventh of the season, coming off of Ryan McDonagh and Juuso Parssinen. The Predators added on with a Thomas Novak power play goal, powered by Josi and Parssinen. This made it 4-2, the final, with the three stars given to Josi, Parssinen, and Murphy.

South to Dallas, as the Stars welcome the welcome the Edmonton Oilers. Stuart Skinner and Jake Oettinger protect the nets. Dallas struck first in the first period with a Roope Hintz goal, his fourteenth of the season, assisted by Jason Robertson and Joe Pavelski. Edmonton tied it on a Mattias Janmark goal, his second of the year, via Klim Kostin and Evan Bouchard. The Stars retook the lead in the second period with a Wyatt Johnston goal, his ninth of the season, made possible by Mason Marchment and Jamie Benn. The Oilers tied it with a Zach Hyman power play goal, his fifteenth of the year, powered by Tyson Barrie and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Edmonton took the lead with a Nugent-Hopkins goal, his eighteenth of the season, fueled by Janmark. Dallas tied it on a Tyler Seguin power play goal, his seventh of the year, with assists provided by Marchment and Nils Lundkvist. Arizona tied it on a Juuso Valimaki goal, his second of the year, via Christian Fischer and Nick Ritchie. The Golden Knights took the lead back in the third period with a Mark Stone goal, his thirteenth of the season, helped along by Alex Pietrangelo and Jonathan Marchessault. Vegas added on with a William Carrier goal, his tenth of the year, guided in by Chandler Stephenson and Stone. The Coyotes got one back with a Fischer goal, his sixth of the season, made possible by Travis Boyd and Nick Schmaltz. The Golden Knights fired back on a Stone shorthanded goal, his second of the game and fourteenth of the year, set up by Stephenson. Vegas extended the lead as Michael Amadio scored his second of the season, thanks to Nicolas Hague and Reilly Smith. The final was 5-2, with the three stars going to Stone, Stephenson, and Fischer.

Finally, the Anaheim Ducks host the Minnesota Wild. Marc-Andre Fleury and Lukas Dostal occupy the creases. Anaheim dented the scoreboard in the second period with a Mason McTavish goal, his fifth of the season, going in unassisted. Minnesota tied it on a Connor Dewar goal, his fifth of the year, via Ryan Reaves and Mason Shaw. The Wild pulled ahead in the third period with a Matt Boldy goal, his twelfth of the season, an unassisted goal. Minnesota added on with a Joel Eriksson Ek power play goal, his eleventh of the year, powered by Calen Addison and Boldy. The Wild iced it at 4-1 with a Ryan Hartman empty net goal, his second of the campaign, set up by Boldy and Frederick Gaudreau. The final was 4-1, with the three stars being Boldy, Fleury (21 for 22 in saves), and Eriksson Ek.

NHL 2022-23 - Day 71

We've got another eight games today, beginning with...

The Carolina Hurricanes hosting the New Jersey Devils. Vitek Vanecek and Pyotr Kochetkov man the nets. Carolina started in the first period with a Jesperi Kotkaniemi goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Seth Jarvis and Calvin de Haan. The Hurricanes added on in the second period with a Jordan Staal goal, his ninth of the year, via Jordan Martinook and Jaccob Slavin. Carolina extended the lead on a Teuvo Teravainen shorthanded goal, his second of the season, set up by Slavin and Jesper Fast. MacKenzie Blackwood replaced Vanecek in goal in the third period. New Jersey got on the board with a Jack Hughes goal, his seventeenth of the year, courtesy of Brendan Smith and Jesper Bratt. The Hurricanes iced it at 4-1 with a Stefan Noesen goal, his sixth of the campaign, going in unassisted. The three stars were Slavin, Kochetkov (37 for 38 in saves), and Teravainen.

Up in Philadelphia, the Flyers welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets. Daniil Tarasov and Carter Hart patrol the creases. Philadelphia led off in the first period with a Travis Konecny shorthanded goal, his thirteenth of the season, set up by Scott Laughton. Columbus tied it in the second period with a Kirill Marchenko goal, his third of the year, guided in by Jake Christiansen and Eric Robinson. The Blue Jackets took the lead with a Kent Johnson goal, his eighth of the season, assisted by Johnny Gaudreau and Patrik Laine. The Flyers retied it on a Morgan Frost goal, his sixth of the year, fueled by Cam York and James van Riemsdyk. Philadelphia pulled ahead on an Owen Tippett goal, his ninth of the season, passed from Joel Farabee and York. The Blues got closer with a Pavel Buchnevich power play goal, his eleventh of the year, powered by Torey Krug and Brayden Schenn. Florida got on the board with a Sam Reinhart goal, his twelfth of the year, courtesy of Matt Kiersted and Carter Verhaeghe. Up in Vegas, the Golden Knights host the Buffalo Sabres. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Adin Hill are the goalies. Buffalo cracked the scoresheet in the second period with a Jeff Skinner goal, his sixteenth of the season, passed from Alex Tuch and Lawrence Pilut. The Sabres added on with a Tage Thompson goal, his twenty-sixth of the year, courtesy of Casey Fitzgerald. Buffalo extended the lead as Pilut scored, thanks to Kyle Okposo and Peyton Krebs. Vegas got on the board in the third period with a Chandler Stephenson goal, his eighth of the season, coming off of Michael Amadio and Alec Martinez. The Golden Knights got closer with a Reilly Smith goal, his seventeenth of the year, guided in by Alex Pietrangelo and William Karlsson. The final stayed at 3-2 with the three stars given to Pilut, Thompson, and Luukkonen (41 for 43 in saves).

Finally, the Vancouver Canucks bring in the St. Louis Blues. Jordan Binnington and Spencer Martin man the nets. St. Louis drew first blood in the second period with a Jordan Kyrou goal, his fourteenth of the season, helped along by Nick Leddy and Vladimir Tarasenko. Vancouver tied it with an Ilya Mikheyev goal, his tenth of the year, courtesy of Quinn Hughes. The Blues retook the lead on a Nathan Walker goal, via Leddy and Colton Parayko. St. Louis added on with a Robert Thomas power play goal, his eighth of the season, powered by Ivan Barbashev and Kyrou. The Blues extended the lead in the third period as Kyrou scored his second of the game and fifteenth of the year on the power play, thanks to Tarasenko and Torey Krug. St. Louis padded the lead when Kyrou completed his hat trick on his sixteenth of the season, with the help of Thomas and Tarasenko. The final remained at 5-1, with the three stars handed to Kyrou, Tarasenko, and Thomas, while Leddy gets an honorable mention.

Minnesota extended the lead as Jared Spurgeon scored his third of the season, thanks to Kaprizov and Marcus Foligno. Ottawa got on the board in the third period with a Mark Kastelic goal, his third of the year, made possible by Travis Hamonic and Parker Kelly. The Senators got closer with a Claude Giroux goal, his fourteenth of the season, helped along by Brady Tkachuk and Drake Batherson. Three games on for a Friday night. First up...

The Minnesota Wild host the Chicago Blackhawks. Petr Mrazek and Marc-Andre Fleury are the veteran goalies. Minnesota led off in the first period with a Mats Zuccarello goal, his eleventh of the season, assisted by Kirill Kaprizov and Sam Steel. The Wild added on with a Kaprizov goal, his eighteenth of the year, via Zuccarello and Steel in the second period. Minnesota extended the lead as Zuccarello scored his second of the game and twelfth of the season on the power play, powered by Matt Boldy and Joel Eriksson Ek. Chicago got on the board in the third period with a Jonathan Toews power play goal, his tenth of the year, with assists provided by Patrick Kane and Seth Jones. The Wild iced it at 4-1 with a Zuccarello empty net goal to complete his hat trick on his thirteenth of the campaign, set up by Kaprizov and Jared Spurgeon. The Stars took the lead with a Colin Miller goal, his second of the season, via Ryan Suter and Mason Marchment. This stood for a 2-1 win, with the three stars being Oettinger (45 for 46 in saves), Miller, and Benn.

South to Raleigh, as the Carolina Hurricanes welcome the Seattle Kraken. Philipp Grubauer and Pyotr Kochetkov are in the creases. Carolina struck first in the first period with an Andrei Svechnikov goal, his sixteenth of the season, going in unassisted. The Hurricanes added on with a Derek Stepan goal, coming off of Jack Drury and Calvin de Haan. Carolina extended the lead in the second period as Stefan Noesen scored his fourth of the year on a penalty shot. Seattle got on the board with a Ryan Donato goal, his fifth of the season, made possible by Carson Soucy and Yanni Gourde. The Kraken got closer in the third period with a Daniel Sprong goal, his seventh of the year, via Brandon Tanev and Will Borgen. This only made it 3-2, the final, with the three stars being Noesen, Stepan, and Svechnikov.

Northwest to Winnipeg, as the Jets bring in the Nashville Predators. Juuse Saros and Connor Hellebuyck tend the twines. Nashville drew first blood in the first period with a Filip Forsberg goal, his ninth of the season, assisted by Mikael Granlund and Matt Duchene. Winnipeg tied it on a Dylan DeMelo goal, courtesy of Kyle Connor and Josh Morrissey. The Jets won 2-1 in overtime with a Connor goal, his twelfth of the year, passed from Adam Lowry. The three stars were Connor, Hellebuyck (25 for 26 in saves), and DeMelo.

Back stateside, the Chicago Blackhawks host the Vegas Golden Knights. Logan Thompson faces a lesser foe in Arvid Soderblom in goal. Vegas was first to score in the first period with a Chandler Stephenson power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by Mark Stone and Jonathan Marchessault. The Golden Knights added on in the second period with a Reilly Smith shorthanded goal, his thirteenth of the year, set up by William Karlsson. Vegas extended the lead in the third period as Phil Kessel scored his sixth of the season, thanks to Daniil Miromanov and Karlsson. Chicago got on the board with a Taylor Raddysh goal, his ninth of the year, passed from Jonathan Toews and Seth Jones. The Golden Knights iced it at 4-1 with a Smith empty net goal, his second of the game and fourteenth of the campaign, coming off of Marchessault and Brayden Pachal. The three stars belonged to Smith, Karlsson, and Marchessault.

Out west, the Colorado Avalanche welcome the Buffalo Sabres. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Alexandar Georgiev draw the starts. Buffalo cracked the scoresheet with a Tage Thompson goal, his twenty-fourth of the season, assisted by Casey Mittelstadt and Kale Clague. The Sabres added on with an Alex Tuch power play goal, his fifteenth of the year, powered by Rasmus Dahlin and Thompson. Buffalo extended the lead as Dahlin scored his tenth of the season, thanks to Tyson Jost and Victor Olofsson. Colorado got on the board in the third period with a Mikko Rantanen goal, his twentieth of the year, guided in by Valeri Nichushkin and Artturi Lehkonen. The Avalanche got closer with an Evan Rodrigues goal, his seventh of the season, made possible by Nichushkin and Cale Makar. The Sabres iced it at 4-2 with a Dylan Cozens empty net goal, his eleventh of the year, going in unassisted. The three stars were Thompson, Dahlin, and Nichushkin.

Finally, the Edmonton Oilers bring in the St. Louis Blues. Jordan Binnington and Stuart Skinner receive the starting nods in goal. Edmonton got the first goal in the first period as Zach Hyman scored his fourteenth of the season on the power play, powered by Leon Draisaitl and Tyson Barrie. St. Louis tied it with a Jordan Kyrou goal, his eleventh of the year, guided in by Pavel Buchnevich and Brayden Schenn. The Oilers took the lead with a Connor McDavid power play goal in the second period, his twenty-seventh of the season, with assists provided by Barrie and the goalie Skinner. Edmonton added on in the third period with a Kailer Yamamoto goal, his second of the year, passed from Barrie and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The Blues got one back with a Robert Thomas goal, his seventh of the season, helped along by Ivan Barbashev and Kyrou. St. Louis tied it on a shorthanded Vladimir Tarasenko goal, his ninth of the year, set up by Kyrou. The tie went to a shootout, where Kyrou had the lone tally for a 4-3 Blues win. The three stars were Kyrou, Barrie, and Tarasenko.
