Down in California, the Los Angeles Kings bring in the San Jose Sharks. James Reimer and Cal Petersen protect the nets. Los Angeles dented the scoreboard in the second period with an Anze Kopitar power play goal, his sixteenth of the season, powered by Sean Durzi. The Kings added on with a Phillip Danault goal, his eighteenth of the year, guided in by Durzi and Trevor Moore. Boston got on the board with a Craig Smith goal, his fourteenth of the season, courtesy of Trent Frederic and Brandon Carlo. The Bruins tied it in the second period with a Brad Marchand power play goal, his twenty-fourth of the year, powered by Charlie Coyle and Charlie McAvoy. NHL 2021-22 - Day 142

There's just a single game on tonight, as the Ottawa Senators host the Arizona Coyotes. Scott Wedgewood and Filip Gustavsson are the goalies. Ottawa struck first in the first period with a Josh Norris goal, his twenty-third of the season, coming off of Brady Tkachuk. Arizona tied it with a Lawson Crouse goal, his sixteenth of the year, via Phil Kessel and Alex Galchenyuk. The Coyotes took the lead with a Crouse power play goal, his second of the game and seventeenth of the season, powered by Shayne Gostisbehere and Clayton Keller. The Senators tied it on a Norris power play goal, his second of the game and twenty-fourth of the year, with a lone helper by Tim Stutzle. Arizona regained the lead in the second period on a Lawson Crouse shorthanded goal, completing his hat trick on his eighteenth of the season. Ottawa tied it again in the third period with a Connor Brown goal, his ninth of the year, helped along by Tkachuk and Artem Zub. The Coyotes pulled ahead with a Nick Schmaltz goal, his seventeenth of the season, coming off of Keller. It's another busy Sunday with ten games on. First up...

The Pittsburgh Penguins host the Carolina Hurricanes. Antti Raanta and Tristan Jarry are in goal. Pittsburgh led off in the first period with a Brian Boyle goal, his seventh of the season, coming off of Teddy Blueger and John Marino. The Penguins added on with a Danton Heinen goal, his thirteenth of the year, via Mike Matheson and Evan Rodrigues. Carolina got one the board in the third period with a Brett Pesce goal, his fifth of the season, courtesy of Vincent Trocheck and Brady Skjei. Pittsburgh answered with a Sidney Crosby empty net goal, his twentieth of the year, set up by Boyle and Kris Letang. The Hurricanes got one back with a Sebastian Aho goal, his twenty-seventh of the season, assisted by Jordan Staal and Teuvo Teravainen. The Penguins iced it at 4-2 with a Zach Aston-Reese empty net goal, his second of the year, with helpers from Jeff Carter and Blueger. The three stars were Boyle, Blueger, and Jarry (41 for 43 in saves). 

Up in Hamilton, the Buffalo Sabres welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs for the Heritage Classic. Petr Mrazek and Craig Anderson start in goal. At the regular time, the Philadelphia Flyers bring in the Montreal Canadiens. Samuel Montembeault and Carter Hart are the goalies. The Wild tied it on a Jordan Greenway goal, his fifth of the year, guided in by Marcus Foligno. Nashville regained the lead with a Tomasino goal, his ninth of the season, assisted by Cousins and Michael McCarron. The Predators added on in the third period with a Josi power play goal, his second of the game and seventeenth of the year, powered by Mikael Granlund and Forsberg. New York added on with an Anders Lee goal, his twenty-first of the year, coming off of Ryan Pulock and Anthony Beauvillier. The Ducks got one back in the second period with an Isac Lundestrom goal, his fourteenth of the season, guided in by Hampus Lindholm and Jamie Drysdale. The Islanders replied on another Palmieri goal, his second of the game and ninth of the year, passed from Scott Mayfield and Bailey. Anaheim got one back in the third period with an Adam Henrique goal, his fourteenth of the campaign, made possible by Troy Terry and Trevor Zegras. This only made it 4-3, the final, with the three stars going to Palmieri, Bailey, and Lee.

Out west, the Colorado Avalanche welcome the Calgary Flames. Daniel Vladar and Darcy Kuemper are between the pipes. Colorado drew first blood in the first period with a Nathan MacKinnon power play goal, his twentieth of the season, powered by Mikko Rantanen and Nazem Kadri. The Avalanche added on in the third period with an unassisted MacKinnon goal, his second of the game and twenty-first of the year. Colorado finished it at 3-0 with a Rantanen empty net goal, his twenty-eighth of the campaign, set up by Darren Helm. The three stars went to Kuemper (46 save shutout), MacKinnon, and Rantanen.

Northwest to Vancouver, as the Canucks bring in the Tampa Bay Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy and Thatcher Demko tend the twines. Tampa Bay was first to score in the first period with a Victor Hedman goal, his fifteenth of the season, coming off of Pat Maroon and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare. The Lightning added on with a Ross Colton goal, his eleventh of the year, via Corey Perry. Vancouver got on the board in the third period with a J.T. Miller goal, his twenty-fourth of the season, assisted by Conor Garland and Tanner Pearson. This stood for a 2-1 final score, with the three stars awarded to Vasilevskiy (35 for 36 in saves), Colton, and Hedman.

Finally, the Los Angeles Kings host the Florida Panthers. Spencer Knight and Jonathan Quick patrol the creases. Washington opened in the first period with an Evgeny Kuznetsov goal, his seventeenth of the season, coming off of Nick Jensen and T.J. Oshie. The Capitals added on with another Kuznetsov power play goal, his second of the game and eighteenth of the year, powered by Alex Ovechkin and John Carlson. Vancouver got on the board in the third period with a Quinn Hughes goal, his fifth of the season, assisted by J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson. The Canucks tied it on a Bo Horvat power play goal, his nineteenth of the year, with assists provided by Miller and Hughes. Vancouver took the lead with a Horvat goal, his second of the game and twentieth of the season, guided in by Travis Hamonic and Hughes. Washington tied it again with a Kuznetsov power play goal, completing his hat trick on his nineteenth of the year, with helpers from Oshie and Ovechkin. The Capitals won 4-3 in overtime with a Lars Eller goal, his ninth of the campaign, passed from Carlson and Tom Wilson. The three stars were Kuznetsov, Horvat, and Hughes, while Ovechkin, Carlson, Oshie, and Miller get the honorable mentions.
