NHL 2022-23 - Day 69

Five games on this Sunday, beginning with...

The Minnesota Wild hosting the Ottawa Senators. Anton Forsberg and Filip Gustavsson are the goalies. Minnesota began in the first period with a Kirill Kaprizov goal, his nineteenth of the season, coming off of Mats Zuccarello and Sam Steel. The Wild added on in the second period with a Zuccarello goal, his fourteenth of the year, guided in by Steel and Kaprizov. Minnesota extended the lead as Jared Spurgeon scored his third of the season, thanks to Kaprizov and Marcus Foligno. Ottawa got on the board in the third period with a Mark Kastelic goal, his third of the year, made possible by Travis Hamonic and Parker Kelly. The Rangers added on with an Artemi Panarin goal, his eighth of the year, passed from Fox and Vincent Trocheck. Chicago got on the board in the second period with an unassisted Philipp Kurashev goal, his fourth of the year. The Rangers fired back on a Jacob Trouba goal, his second of the season, made possible by Mika Zibanejad and Panarin. New York padded the lead on a Trocheck power play goal, his eleventh of the year, powered by Fox and Zibanejad. The Bruins retook the lead with a David Krejci power play goal, his ninth of the season, with assists provided by Charlie McAvoy and Taylor Hall. Boston added on in the third period with a Hall goal, his thirteenth of the year, fueled by Pastrnak and Krejci. Three games on for a Friday night. First up...

Minnesota led off in the first period with a Mats Zuccarello goal, his eleventh of the season, assisted by Kirill Kaprizov and Sam Steel. The Wild added on with a Kaprizov goal, his eighteenth of the year, via Zuccarello and Steel in the second period. Minnesota extended the lead as Zuccarello scored his second of the game and twelfth of the season on the power play, powered by Matt Boldy and Joel Eriksson Ek. Chicago got on the board in the third period with a Jonathan Toews power play goal, his tenth of the year, with assists provided by Patrick Kane and Seth Jones. The Wild iced it at 4-1 with a Zuccarello empty net goal to complete his hat trick on his thirteenth of the campaign, set up by Kaprizov and Jared Spurgeon. The Kings tied it on Kempe's second goal of the game and twelfth of the year, guided in by Fiala and Drew Doughty on the power play. The tie lasted to a shootout, where Kempe, Gabriel Vilardi and Trevor Moore lifted the Kings to a 3-2 win over Coyle, Jake DeBrusk, and the Bruins. The three stars were Kempe, Fiala, and Coyle.

Over in New York, the Rangers bring in the Toronto Maple Leafs. Matt Murray and Igor Shesterkin guard the cages. Toronto tied it on a Michael Bunting goal, his seventh of the year, via David Kampf and Conor Timmins. New York added on with another Vesey goal, his second of the game and fifth of the year, going into an empty net set up by Jacob Trouba and Trocheck. Next up, the Washington Capitals host the Dallas Stars. Jake Oettinger and Charlie Lindgren protect the nets. Northwest to Winnipeg, as the Jets bring in the Nashville Predators. Juuse Saros and Connor Hellebuyck tend the twines. Nashville drew first blood in the first period with a Filip Forsberg goal, his ninth of the season, assisted by Mikael Granlund and Matt Duchene. Winnipeg tied it on a Dylan DeMelo goal, courtesy of Kyle Connor and Josh Morrissey. The Jets won 2-1 in overtime with a Connor goal, his twelfth of the year, passed from Adam Lowry. The three stars were Connor, Hellebuyck (25 for 26 in saves), and DeMelo.

Back stateside, the Chicago Blackhawks host the Vegas Golden Knights. Logan Thompson faces a lesser foe in Arvid Soderblom in goal. Vegas was first to score in the first period with a Chandler Stephenson power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by Mark Stone and Jonathan Marchessault. The Golden Knights added on in the second period with a Reilly Smith shorthanded goal, his thirteenth of the year, set up by William Karlsson. Vegas extended the lead in the third period as Phil Kessel scored his sixth of the season, thanks to Daniil Miromanov and Karlsson. Chicago got on the board with a Taylor Raddysh goal, his ninth of the year, passed from Jonathan Toews and Seth Jones. The Golden Knights iced it at 4-1 with a Smith empty net goal, his second of the game and fourteenth of the campaign, coming off of Marchessault and Brayden Pachal. Out west, the Colorado Avalanche welcome the Buffalo Sabres. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Alexandar Georgiev draw the starts. The Ottawa Senators hosting the Montreal Canadiens. Sam Montembeault and Cam Talbot are in goal. The Senators added on with a Drake Batherson power play goal, his eighth of the year, powered by DeBrincat and Brady Tkachuk. Ottawa extended the lead as Tkachuk scored his thirteenth of the season on the power play, thanks to DeBrincat and Batherson. Montreal got on the board in the third period with a Kirby Dach goal, his fifth of the year, courtesy of Jake Evans and Juraj Slafkovsky. The final was 3-0 and the three stars were Talbot (32 save shutout), DeBrincat, and Giroux.

Stateside to St. Louis, where the Blues welcome the Nashville Predators. Juuse Saros and Jordan Binnington are between the pipes. St. Louis won 1-0 in overtime with a Brayden Schenn goal, his seventh of the season, fueled by Jordan Kyrou and Torey Krug. The three stars were awarded to Binnington (25 save shutout), Schenn, and Saros (23 for 24 in saves).

Finally, the Minnesota Wild bring in the Edmonton Oilers. Stuart Skinner and Marc-Andre Fleury draw the starts in goal. Minnesota started in the first period with a Matt Boldy power play goal, his eleventh of the season, powered by Kirill Kaprizov and Mats Zuccarello. Edmonton tied it on a Zach Hyman power play goal, his tenth of the year, with assists provided by Tyson Barrie and Connor McDavid. The Wild retook the lead in the second period with a Frederick Gaudreau goal, his fifth of the campaign, passed from Boldy. This stood for the eventual 2-1 final score, with the three stars given to Boldy, Fleury (20 for 21 in saves), and Gaudreau.
