NHL 2022-23 - Day 71

We've got another eight games today, beginning with...

The Carolina Hurricanes hosting the New Jersey Devils. Vitek Vanecek and Pyotr Kochetkov man the nets. Carolina started in the first period with a Jesperi Kotkaniemi goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Seth Jarvis and Calvin de Haan. The Hurricanes added on in the second period with a Jordan Staal goal, his ninth of the year, via Jordan Martinook and Jaccob Slavin. Carolina extended the lead on a Teuvo Teravainen shorthanded goal, his second of the season, set up by Slavin and Jesper Fast. MacKenzie Blackwood replaced Vanecek in goal in the third period. New Jersey got on the board with a Jack Hughes goal, his seventeenth of the year, courtesy of Brendan Smith and Jesper Bratt. The Hurricanes iced it at 4-1 with a Stefan Noesen goal, his sixth of the campaign, going in unassisted. The three stars were Slavin, Kochetkov (37 for 38 in saves), and Teravainen.

Up in Philadelphia, the Flyers welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets. Daniil Tarasov and Carter Hart patrol the creases. Philadelphia led off in the first period with a Travis Konecny shorthanded goal, his thirteenth of the season, set up by Scott Laughton. Columbus tied it in the second period with a Kirill Marchenko goal, his third of the year, guided in by Jake Christiansen and Eric Robinson. The Blue Jackets took the lead with a Kent Johnson goal, his eighth of the season, assisted by Johnny Gaudreau and Patrik Laine. The Flyers retied it on a Morgan Frost goal, his sixth of the year, fueled by Cam York and James van Riemsdyk. Philadelphia pulled ahead on an Owen Tippett goal, his ninth of the season, passed from Joel Farabee and York. The Flyers added on in the third period with a Konecny goal, his second of the game and fourteenth of the year, going in unassisted. Columbus got one back with an Andrew Peeke goal, his third of the season, helped along by Jack Roslovic and Gustav Nyquist. Over in Pittsburgh, the Penguins host the New York Rangers. Igor Shesterkin and Tristan Jarry guard the cages. New York opened in the first period with a Chris Kreider goal, his fifteenth of the season, courtesy of Vincent Trocheck. Pittsburgh tied it in the second period with an Evgeni Malkin power play goal, his eleventh of the year, powered by Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang. The Penguins took the lead with a Bryan Rust power play goal, his eighth of the season, with assists provided by Pierre-Olivier Joseph and Jason Zucker. Pittsburgh added on with a Crosby goal in the third period, his eighteenth of the year, via Jake Guentzel and Rickard Rakell. The Rangers got one back with a Kreider goal, his second of the game and sixteenth of the season, fueled by Trocheck and Jonny Brodzinski. The final stood at 3-2, with the three stars being Crosby, Kreider, and Trocheck.

North to Toronto, as the Maple Leafs bring in the Tampa Bay Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy and Matt Murray are the masked men. Toronto began in the first period with a Michael Bunting goal, his eighth of the season, made possible by William Nylander. The Maple Leafs added on in the second period with an Auston Matthews power play goal, his seventeenth of the year, powered by Rasmus Sandin and Mitch Marner. Tampa Bay got on the board in the third period with a Vladislav Namestnikov goal, his second of the season, via Steven Stamkos. Toronto replied with a Pierre Engvall empty net goal, his sixth of the year, set up by David Kampf and Mark Giordano. The Maple Leafs iced it at 4-1 with a Nylander empty net goal, his nineteenth of the campaign, with a helper from Calle Jarnkrok. The three stars were Nylander, Matthews, and Murray (18 for 19 in saves).

Westward to Winnipeg, where the Jets host the Ottawa Senators. Cam Talbot and David Rittich are set to start in goal. Winnipeg struck first in the first period with a Kevin Stenlund goal, assisted by David Gustafsson and Axel Jonsson-Fjallby. The Jets added on with a Josh Morrissey goal, his sixth of the season, passed from Dylan DeMelo and Kyle Connor. Ottawa got on the board with a Drake Batherson power play goal, his eleventh of the year, powered by Thomas Chabot and Alex DeBrincat. Winnipeg replied with a Sam Gagner goal, his sixth of the season, guided in by Brenden Dillon and Pierre-Luc Dubois. The Jets extended the lead as Connor scored his fourteenth of the year, thanks to Morrissey and DeMelo. Winnipeg padded the lead on another Connor goal, his second of the game and fifteenth of the season, fueled by Dubois and Jonsson-Fjallby. Further west, the Seattle Kraken welcome the St. Louis Blues. Thomas Greiss and Martin Jones are the backups in goal. The Kraken padded the lead on a Jared McCann goal, his fifteenth of the year, going in unassisted. St. Louis got on the board in the third period with a Colton Parayko goal, his second of the season, made possible by Logan Brown and Alexey Toropchenko. The Blues got closer with a Pavel Buchnevich power play goal, his eleventh of the year, powered by Torey Krug and Brayden Schenn. Seattle responded with a Tanev empty net goal, his fifth of the campaign, set up by Jaden Schwartz and Vince Dunn. The three stars of the 5-2 game were went to Geekie, Tanev, and Sprong.

Down in San Jose, the Sharks host the Calgary Flames. Jacob Markstrom and James Reimer protect the nets. Calgary drew first blood in the first period with a Tyler Toffoli goal, his twelfth of the season, assisted by Dillon Dube and Elias Lindholm. The Flames added on with a Dube goal, his seventh of the year, coming off of Lindholm and Toffoli. San Jose got on the board with a Nico Sturm goal, his ninth of the season, via Timo Meier. Calgary replied in the second period with a Trevor Lewis goal, his seventh of the year, made possible by Adam Ruzicka and Rasmus Andersson. The Sharks got one back with an Alexander Barabanov goal, his fourth of the season, passed from Scott Harrington and Matt Nieto. San Jose tied it on a Meier goal, his seventeenth of the year, fueled by Erik Karlsson. The Flames retook the lead on a Nazem Kadri goal, his twelfth of the season, guided in by Milan Lucic and Jonathan Huberdeau. Calgary extended the lead as Lucic scored his second of the year, thanks to Huberdeau. The Flames padded the lead on a Toffoli empty net goal, his second of the game and thirteenth of the season, set up by Lindholm. Calgary finished it at 7-3 with a Kadri goal, his second of the game and thirteenth of the year, passed from Huberdeau. The Boston Bruins hosting the Florida Panthers. Spencer Knight and Linus Ullmark man the nets. Boston led off in the first period with a Connor Clifton goal, his third of the season, via Taylor Hall. The Bruins added on with a Brandon Carlo goal, fueled by Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron. Boston extended the lead as Charlie Coyle scored his ninth of the year, thanks to Trent Frederic and Carlo. The Bruins padded the lead in the second period with a David Pastrnak power play goal, his twenty-first of the season, powered by Bergeron and Marchand. Florida got on the board with a Sam Reinhart goal, his twelfth of the year, courtesy of Matt Kiersted and Carter Verhaeghe. The Panthers got closer with an Eric Staal goal, his second of the season, coming off of Gustav Forsling and Brandon Montour. The Stars added on in the third period with a Jason Robertson empty net goal, his twenty-fourth of the year, going in unassisted. Down in Nashville, the Predators bring in the Edmonton Oilers. Jack Campbell and Juuse Saros guard the cages. Nashville struck first in the first period with a Mattias Ekholm goal, his second of the season, via Thomas Novak. Edmonton tied it with a Jesse Puljujarvi goal, his second of the year, passed from Darnell Nurse and the goalie Campbell. The Predators retook the lead with a Jordan Gross goal, his third of the season, assisted by Yakov Trenin and Ryan Johansen in the second period. The Oilers tied it on a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins power play goal, his sixteenth of the year, powered by Connor McDavid and Tyson Barrie. Nashville took the lead with a Matt Duchene power play goal, his eighth of the season, with assists provided by Mikael Granlund and Cody Glass. Edmonton tied it again in the third period with a Nugent-Hopkins power play goal, his second of the game and seventeenth of the year, with a helper from McDavid. The three stars were Georgiev (26 save shutout), Sorokin (46 save "shutout"), and Rodrigues.

To Arizona, as the Coyotes welcome the Montreal Canadiens. Sam Montembeault and Karel Vejmelka are in the blue paint. Montreal dented the scoreboard in the second period with a Cole Caufield goal, his nineteenth of the season, coming off of Josh Anderson and Kaiden Guhle. Arizona tied it with a Nick Schmaltz goal, his fifth of the year, via Clayton Keller. The Canadiens retook the lead with a Christian Dvorak goal, his seventh of the season, assisted by Arber Xhekaj and Evgenii Dadonov. The Coyotes tied it again on a Matias Maccelli goal, his third of the year, passed from Lawson Crouse and Jakob Chychrun. Montreal won 3-2 in overtime with a Mike Hoffman goal, his seventh of the campaign, courtesy of Kirby Dach. The three stars were Hoffman, Dvorak, and Caufield.

Up in Vegas, the Golden Knights host the Buffalo Sabres. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Adin Hill are the goalies. Buffalo cracked the scoresheet in the second period with a Jeff Skinner goal, his sixteenth of the season, passed from Alex Tuch and Lawrence Pilut. The Sabres added on with a Tage Thompson goal, his twenty-sixth of the year, courtesy of Casey Fitzgerald. Buffalo extended the lead as Pilut scored, thanks to Kyle Okposo and Peyton Krebs. Vegas got on the board in the third period with a Chandler Stephenson goal, his eighth of the season, coming off of Michael Amadio and Alec Martinez. The Golden Knights got closer with a Reilly Smith goal, his seventeenth of the year, guided in by Alex Pietrangelo and William Karlsson. The final stayed at 3-2 with the three stars given to Pilut, Thompson, and Luukkonen (41 for 43 in saves).

Finally, the Vancouver Canucks bring in the St. Louis Blues. Jordan Binnington and Spencer Martin man the nets. St. Louis drew first blood in the second period with a Jordan Kyrou goal, his fourteenth of the season, helped along by Nick Leddy and Vladimir Tarasenko. Vancouver tied it with an Ilya Mikheyev goal, his tenth of the year, courtesy of Quinn Hughes. The Blues retook the lead on a Nathan Walker goal, via Leddy and Colton Parayko. St. Louis added on with a Robert Thomas power play goal, his eighth of the season, powered by Ivan Barbashev and Kyrou. The Blues extended the lead in the third period as Kyrou scored his second of the game and fifteenth of the year on the power play, thanks to Tarasenko and Torey Krug. St. Louis padded the lead when Kyrou completed his hat trick on his sixteenth of the season, with the help of Thomas and Tarasenko. The final remained at 5-1, with the three stars handed to Kyrou, Tarasenko, and Thomas, while Leddy gets an honorable mention.

The Minnesota Wild hosting the Ottawa Senators. Anton Forsberg and Filip Gustavsson are the goalies. Minnesota began in the first period with a Kirill Kaprizov goal, his nineteenth of the season, coming off of Mats Zuccarello and Sam Steel. The Wild added on in the second period with a Zuccarello goal, his fourteenth of the year, guided in by Steel and Kaprizov. Minnesota extended the lead as Jared Spurgeon scored his third of the season, thanks to Kaprizov and Marcus Foligno. Ottawa got on the board in the third period with a Mark Kastelic goal, his third of the year, made possible by Travis Hamonic and Parker Kelly. The Senators got closer with a Claude Giroux goal, his fourteenth of the season, helped along by Brady Tkachuk and Drake Batherson. Florida drew first blood in the first period with a Sam Reinhart power play goal, his tenth of the season, powered by Aleksander Barkov and Aaron Ekblad. The Panthers added on in the second period with a Gustav Forsling goal, his fifth of the year, guided in by Zac Dalpe and Aleksi Heponiemi. New Jersey got on the board with a John Marino goal, his third of the season, assisted by Jack Hughes and Erik Haula. Florida fired back with a Reinhart goal, his eleventh of the year, fueled by Ekblad and Eetu Luostarinen. The Sabres tied it again with a Skinner goal, his second of the game and fifteenth of the season, assisted by Rasmus Dahlin and Thompson. Buffalo pulled ahead in the third period with a Thompson power play goal, his twenty-fifth of the year, passed from Tuch and Dahlin. The Sabres added on with a Tyson Jost empty net goal, his second of the season, set up by Tuch. Buffalo iced it at 5-2 with a Kyle Okposo empty net goal, his third of the year, with a helper from Skinner. The three stars were given to Thompson, Skinner, and Tuch, while Dahlin gets an honorable mention.

Northwest to Vancouver, as the Canucks welcome the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck and Spencer Martin are between the pipes. Winnipeg began in the first period with a Kyle Connor power play goal, his thirteenth of the season, powered by Pierre-Luc Dubois and Josh Morrissey. The Jets added on in the second period with a Kyle Capobianco goal, via Sam Gagner and Dubois. Winnipeg extended the lead as Neal Pionk scored his fifth of the year, thanks to Brenden Dillon and Cole Perfetti. The Jets padded the lead on a Gagner goal, his fifth of the season, passed from Dubois and Kyle Connor. Winnipeg continued with an Axel Jonsson-Fjallby goal, his second of the year, guided in by Dylan Samberg. Vancouver got on the board with a Bo Horvat power play goal, his twenty-second of the campaign, with assists provided by Quinn Hughes and Conor Garland. Backtracking to Vegas, as the Golden Knights bring in the New York Islanders. Semyon Varlamov and Logan Thompson are the masked men. Vegas tied it in the second period with a Reilly Smith power play goal, his fifteenth of the year, going in unassisted. The Islanders retook the lead with a Hudson Fasching goal, his second of the season, coming off of Sebastian Aho and Matt Martin. New York added on with a Simon Holmstrom goal, courtesy of Zach Parise and Jean-Gabriel Pageau. The Golden Knights got one back in the third period with Smith's second power play goal of the game and sixteenth of the year, powered by Alex Pietrangelo and Chandler Stephenson. The Islanders replied with a Brock Nelson empty net goal, his fifteenth of the campaign, going in unassisted. New York iced it at 5-2 with a Parise empty net goal, his tenth of the campaign, set up by Nelson and Pageau. The three stars went to Smith, Parise, and Nelson, while Pageau gets an honorable mention.

Finally, the Los Angeles Kings host the San Jose Sharks. James Reimer and Pheonix Copley are in the blue paint. Los Angeles started in the first period with a Phillip Danault power play goal, his eighth of the season, powered by Drew Doughty and the goalie Copley. Three games on for a Friday night. First up...

The Minnesota Wild host the Chicago Blackhawks. Petr Mrazek and Marc-Andre Fleury are the veteran goalies. Minnesota led off in the first period with a Mats Zuccarello goal, his eleventh of the season, assisted by Kirill Kaprizov and Sam Steel. The Wild added on with a Kaprizov goal, his eighteenth of the year, via Zuccarello and Steel in the second period. Minnesota extended the lead as Zuccarello scored his second of the game and twelfth of the season on the power play, powered by Matt Boldy and Joel Eriksson Ek. Chicago got on the board in the third period with a Jonathan Toews power play goal, his tenth of the year, with assists provided by Patrick Kane and Seth Jones. The Wild iced it at 4-1 with a Zuccarello empty net goal to complete his hat trick on his thirteenth of the campaign, set up by Kaprizov and Jared Spurgeon. Out west, the Calgary Flames welcome the St. Louis Blues. Thomas Greiss and Jacob Markstrom start in goal. St. Louis extended the lead as Kyrou scored his second of the game and thirteenth of the campaign, assisted by Thomas and Barbashev. The Boston Bruins hosting the Los Angeles Kings. Pheonix Copley and Linus Ullmark are the goalies. Boston got going in the second period with a Taylor Hall goal, his twelfth of the season, coming off of Matt Grzelcyk and Charlie Coyle. The Bruins added on with a Brad Marchand power play goal, his ninth of the year, powered by David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy. Los Angeles got on the board in the third period with an Adrian Kempe goal, his eleventh of the season, via Kevin Fiala and Anze Kopitar. The Kings tied it on Kempe's second goal of the game and twelfth of the year, guided in by Fiala and Drew Doughty on the power play. The tie lasted to a shootout, where Kempe, Gabriel Vilardi and Trevor Moore lifted the Kings to a 3-2 win over Coyle, Jake DeBrusk, and the Bruins. The three stars were Kempe, Fiala, and Coyle.

To Montreal, as the Canadiens welcome the Anaheim Ducks. Lukas Dostal and Jake Allen are set to start in goal.
