NHL 2018/19 - Day 48

Nine games on across the league tonight, beginning with...

The New York Rangers hosting the Dallas Stars. Ben Bishop and Henrik Lundqvist guard the cages. Dallas got going in the second period with a Tyler Seguin power play goal, his seventh of the season, powered by Esa Lindell and Jason Spezza. New York tied it on a Jimmy Vesey goal, his seventh of the year, via Marc Staal and Brett Howden. Anton Khudobin replaced Bishop for the third period. The Rangers retook the lead on a Filip Chytil goal, his fourth of the season, coming off of Brendan Smith in the third period. This held for a 2-1 Rangers win, with the three stars going to Smith, Vesey, and Lundqvist (16 for 17 in saves).

Over in Pittsburgh, the Penguins welcome the Buffalo Sabres. Carter Hutton and Casey DeSmith play in goal. Pittsburgh started in the first period with a Derick Brassard goal, his second of the season, with a lone assist by Patric Hornqvist. Buffalo tied it on a Tage Thompson goal, coming off of Sam Reinhart and Rasmus Ristolainen. The Penguins took the lead back with a Phil Kessel goal, his tenth of the year, courtesy of Tanner Pearson and Evgeni Malkin. Pittsburgh added on in the second period with a Jake Guentzel goal, his seventh of the season, fueled by Hornqvist. The Penguins extended the lead as Pearson scored, thanks to Jack Johnson and Malkin. The Sabres got one back on a Zach Bogosian goal, his second of the year, guided in by Jeff Skinner and Jack Eichel. Buffalo pulled closer with a Casey Nelson goal, made possible by Kyle Okposo and Conor Sheary. The Sabres tied it in the third period with a Casey Mittelstadt goal, his third of the season, with helpers from Okposo and Bogosian. Buffalo won 5-4 in overtime on an Eichel goal, his fifth of the year, helped along by Ristolainen. In Canada, the Toronto Maple Leafs bring in the Columbus Blue Jackets. Sergei Bobrovsky and Frederik Andersen tend the twines. The Blue Jackets added on with a Dubois goal, his tenth of the year, coming off of Atkinson and Artemi Panarin. Back in Ontario, the Ottawa Senators welcome the Florida Panthers. James Reimer and Craig Anderson are between the pipes. Ottawa struck first in the first period with a Matt Duchene goal, his ninth of the season, helped along by Christian Jaros and Thomas Chabot. Florida tied it on a Troy Brouwer goal, his fourth of the year, via Juho Lammikko. Nashville tied it on a Kyle Turris power play goal, his fifth of the year, powered by Calle Jarnkrok and Mattias Ekholm. The Predators took the lead in the second period with a Filip Forsberg goal, his thirteenth of the season, via Ekholm and Ryan Johansen. Nashville added on with a Johansen goal, his fourth of the year, guided in by Craig Smith and Roman Josi. Calgary drew first blood in the first period with a Matthew Tkachuk power play goal, his tenth of the season, powered by Johnny Gaudreau and Mark Giordano. The Flames added on with a Gaudreau goal, his seventh of the year, via Sean Monahan and Elias Lindholm. Calgary extended the lead as Monahan scored his eleventh of the season, thanks to Gaudreau. The Flames padded the lead on a T.J. Brodie goal, made possible by Tkachuk and Giordano. Calgary kept going with another Monahan goal on the power play, his second of the game and twelfth of the year, helped along by Tkachuk and Gaudreau, the latter earning a sock trick. We've got five games on this Sunday as the league begins to adjust its schedule for Thanksgiving. First up is a matinee in...

Brooklyn, where the New York Islanders host the Dallas Stars. Ben Bishop and Thomas Greiss make the starts in goal. New York led off in the first period with an Anthony Beauvillier goal, his fifth of the season, coming off of Leo Komarov and Ryan Pulock. Dallas tied it on an Esa Lindell goal in the second period, his second of the year, via Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn. The Stars took the lead with a Roope Hintz goal, courtesy of Jason Spezza. Dallas added on with another Lindell goal, his second of the game and third of the season, assisted by Julius Honka and Jason Dickinson. Robin Lehner replaced Greiss in goal. The Stars extended the lead as Seguin scored his sixth of the year, thanks to Alexander Radulov and Benn. The Islanders got one back in the third period with a Scott Mayfield goal, his third of the season, with a lone assist by Mathew Barzal. Dallas replied with a Radulov goal, his seventh of the year, passed from Gavin Bayreuther and Spezza. The Devils added on in the second period with a shorthanded Blake Coleman goal, his seventh of the season, set up by Damon Severson and Andy Greene. Detroit got on the board with a Luke Glendening goal, his third of the year, passed from Dennis Cholowski and Tyler Bertuzzi. The Red Wings tied it on a Michael Rasmussen goal in the third period, his fifth of the season, guided in by Mike Green and Bertuzzi. Up in Winnipeg, the Jets welcome the Buffalo Sabres. Carter Hutton faces a lesser foe in Laurent Brossoit in goal. Winnipeg got going in the second period with a Kyle Connor goal, his ninth of the season, via Patrik Laine and Bryan Little. Buffalo tied it in the third period with a Jeff Skinner power play goal, his fourteenth of the year, powered by Jack Eichel and Rasmus Dahlin. The tie went to a shootout, where Eichel, Jason Pominville, and Conor Sheary lifted the Sabres to a 2-1 win over Laine, Connor, and the Jets. The Islanders tied it on a Brock Nelson goal, his ninth of the season, assisted by Nick Leddy and Jordan Eberle. The Islanders pulled ahead with a Beauvillier goal in the second period, his second of the game and third of the year, guided in by Filppula and Leo Komarov. Down in California, the Los Angeles Kings welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs. Frederik Andersen faces a lesser foe in Peter Budaj in goal. Toronto kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Nazem Kadri power play goal, his sixth of the season, powered by Mitchell Marner and John Tavares. The Maple Leafs added on with a Tavares power play goal, his eleventh of the year, with a lone assist by Morgan Rielly. Los Angeles got on the board with an Adrian Kempe goal, his second of the season, via Dion Phaneuf. Toronto shot back with a Rielly goal in the second period, his eighth of the year, coming off of Tavares. The Maple Leafs extended the lead as Andreas Johnsson scored his second of the season, assisted by Travis Dermott and Par Lindholm. Cal Petersen replaced Budaj in goal. Toronto padded the lead on a Kadri power play goal, his second of the game and seventh of the year, with assists provided by Patrick Marleau and Marner. This led to the eventual 5-1 final score, with the three stars given to Tavares, Kadri, and Rielly, while Marner gets an honorable mention.

Finally, the San Jose Sharks bring in the Nashville Predators. Juuse Saros and Martin Jones are the masked men. San Jose was first to score in the first period with a Marcus Sorensen goal, his third of the season, going in unassisted. The Sharks added on with a Joe Pavelski power play goal, his ninth of the year, powered by Erik Karlsson and Tomas Hertl. San Jose extended the lead as Antti Suomela scored his third of the season, an unassisted goal. Nashville got on the board in the second period with a Craig Smith goal, his fifth of the year, passed from Ryan Johansen and Filip Forsberg. The Predators got closer with an unassisted Forsberg goal, his eleventh of the season. Nashville tied it as Forsberg scored his second of the game and twelfth of the year, thanks to Smith. The Predators gained the lead on a Rocco Grimaldi goal in the third period, helped along by Kevin Fiala and Matt Irwin. The Sharks retied it on another Pavelski goal, his second of the game and tenth of the season, fueled by Sorensen and Brent Burns. San Jose gained the lead with a Joe Thornton goal, his third of the year, guided in by Sorensen and Justin Braun. This stood for a 5-4 win, with the three stars belonging to Pavelski, Forsberg, and Sorensen, while Smith gets the honorable mention.
