The Carolina Hurricanes hosting the Washington Capitals. Braden Holtby and Petr Mrazek draw the starts in goal. Washington opened in the first period with a Brett Connolly goal, his second of the postseason, made possible by Lars Eller and Andre Burakovsky. Carolina tied it on a Warren Foegele goal, his fourth of the playoffs, via Dougie Hamilton. The Capitals took the lead back with an Alex Ovechkin goal, his fourth of the postseason, assisted by Dmitry Orlov and Matt Niskanen. The Hurricanes tied it again on a Teuvo Teravainen goal in the second period, his second of the playoffs, guided in by Sebastian Aho. Carolina took the lead in the third period with a Jordan Staal goal, his second of the postseason, coming off of Brock McGinn and Justin Faulk. The Hurricanes added on with a Justin Williams goal, helped along by Brett Pesce and Staal. Carolina iced it at 5-2 with a Hamilton empty net goal, his third of the playoffs, set up by Jordan Martinook. The three stars were Staal, Hamilton, and Williams. The series returns to DC one last time, tied at 3.
Out in Dallas, the Stars host the Nashville Predators. Pekka Rinne and Ben Bishop tend the twines. Nashville started in the first period with an Austin Watson goal, via Brian Boyle and P.K. Subban. Dallas tied it on a Blake Comeau goal in the second period, with a lone assist by Radek Faksa. The Stars won 2-1 in overtime with a John Klingberg goal, assisted by Alexander Radulov and Tyler Seguin. The three stars were Klingberg, Bishop (47 for 48 in saves), and Rinne (49 for 51 in saves). The Stars won the series 4-2 and will meet the St. Louis Blues in the second round.
