The Boston Bruins hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs. Frederik Andersen and Tuukka Rask man the nets. Boston led off in the first period with a Joakim Nordstrom goal, his second of the postseason, made possible by Matt Grzelcyk and Sean Kuraly. The Bruins added on with an unassisted Marcus Johansson goal. Toronto got on the board in the second period with a John Tavares goal, his second of the playoffs, via Tyler Eniis. Boston replied with a Kuraly goal in the third period, coming off of Noel Acciari and Nordstrom. The Bruins extended the lead on a Charlie Coyle empty net goal, his third of the postseason, set up by David Krejci. Boston won 5-1 with a Patrice Bergeron empty net goal, his third of the playoffs, going in unassisted. The three stars were Kuraly, Nordstrom, and Rask (32 for 33 in saves). The Bruins win the series 4-3 and will have home-ice advantage against the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second round.
Out west, the San Jose Sharks host the Vegas Golden Knights. Marc-Andre Fleury and Martin Jones are the masked men. Vegas began in the first period with a William Karlsson goal, his second of the postseason, courtesy of Jonathan Marchessault and Reilly Smith. The Golden Knights added on in the second period with a Cody Eakin goal, his second of the playoffs, via Brayden McNabb and Shea Theodore. Vegas extended the lead as Max Pacioretty scored his fifth of the postseason, thanks to Mark Stone. San Jose got on the board with a Logan Couture power play goal, his fifth of the playoffs, powered by Kevin Labanc and Tomas Hertl. The Sharks got closer with a Hertl power play goal, his sixth of the postseason, with assists provided by Erik Karlsson and Labanc. San Jose tied it as Couture scored his second of the game and sixth of the playoffs on the power play, with the help of Brent Burns and Labanc, the latter earning a sock trick. The Sharks took the lead with a Labanc power play goal, his second of the postseason, with a lone helper from Timo Meier. The Golden Knights evened it with a Marchessault goal, his fourth of the playoffs, made possible by Smith and Stone. San Jose won 5-4 in overtime with a Barclay Goodrow goal, his second of the postseason, set up by Erik Karlsson and Marcus Sorensen. The three stars were Labanc, Erik Karlsson, and Couture, while Hertl, Marchessault, Stone, and Smith get the honorable mentions. The Sharks will meet the Avalanche in the second round after winning this series 4-3.
