2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs - Round 2 Day 2

The other two series of the second round begin today, starting with...

The New York Islanders hosting the Carolina Hurricanes. Petr Mrazek and Robin Lehner are in goal. Carolina won 1-0 in overtime on a Jordan Staal goal, his fourth of the postseason, via Nino Niederreiter and Brett Pesce. The three stars were Mrazek (31 save shutout), Staal, and Lehner (31 for 32 in saves).

Out west, the San Jose Sharks host the Colorado Avalanche. Philipp Grubauer and Martin Jones are set to start in the creases. Colorado kicked off the scoring in the first period with a Gabriel Bourque goal, via Cale Makar and Tyson Jost. San Jose tied it with a Gustav Nyquist goal, courtesy of Brent Burns and Logan Couture. The Avalanche retook the lead in the second period with a Colin Wilson power play goal, his third of the postseason, powered by Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon. The Sharks tied it again with a Joe Thornton goal, his second of the playoffs, with a lone helper by Marcus Sorensen. San Jose gained the lead with a Kevin Labanc goal, his third of the postseason, coming off of Burns. The Sharks added on with a Burns goal, his second of the playoffs, helped along by Sorensen and Thornton. San Jose iced it at 5-2 with an empty net goal in the third period by Timo Meier, his second of the postseason, set up by Burns. The three stars were Burns, Thornton, and Sorensen.
